Stranger's smile

Once my sister and I went to buy drinks. ON the way, a man smiled to me as we are in a hurry, I smiled back. But then, I asked my sister if she knew the man, she said she doesn't. I don't know the man either. But the smiles were exchanged. Funny how life gives you something unexpected (wonderful) and suddenly you simply smiled back. :)

Yes, it's maybe funny sometimes but once a stranger smiles at you it begets smile too. It's our natural instinct unless he/she is your enemy. Like the saying "smile and the world smiles with you". I hope it's correct. But sometimes smiles have meanings especially if it's from a stranger.

What could've been the meaning behind that smile. I thought of it simply a "good day" smile. I smiled back so I guess my reply was given. Let us continue smiling stanley777. :)

Well, we don't know the thinking of some people this days if you knew what I mean. Yes we must continue to show a smile in our face because it do helps us a lot.

Sometimes a smile from a stranger can easily make your day, they say smiles are contagious. So I make sure I smile at people when I pass by all the time. It can make someone's day and you might not even realize it. Did that strangers smile make your day?

I would not take it as a weird thing. Sometimes when you pass someone it is rude not to smile when you look at them and they see you.

That smile made my day "weird". But in a nice way. Smiles nowadays are rarely given to strangers. It is a good thing some people are never too selfish to share theirs.

Coincidentally, I just passed by someone this afternoon. I wasn't able to smile, all I got back was a stare. Instead, I have a quizzical look on my face. I guess that was because my mind's busy, full bladder that time. :(

In some cities it is looked at as suspicious behaviour to smile at random people. Some would see the stranger as a dangerous person for smiling at a person he doesn't know. But there are places where smiling at people is welcomed and even encouraged. Some even get into conversions with total strangers and it is all fine.

The people waiting in the queue must be nice people who also like to have conversations. I guess that makes the wait not too boring.

Ah, the beauty of a smile leading to a nice conversation. I see that happening with my dad. I also see this happening with me whenever I got in a long line. The wait is excruciating. But when you get to talking about the line, the wait, people beside you starts talking too and you get to smiling at the act. You found yourself diving in a conversation.

I guess so. They were all nice people. Well, the common ground is the wait. nevertheless, the smiles are shared.

Hi, emkay86. That is how it is for me when I am out in public. Someone may see me and they will smile and greet me warmly as if they already know me. Usually they are just a stranger. I think that it is very pleasant to receive a genuine smile from a stranger that is practically harmless. It makes a person's day seem much brighter.

A stranger that is practically harmless is also that same person who can be somewhat suspicious. Ironic right? But the smiles continue even from this. Keep it up cream97 :)

Smile - Smile is contagious.
Well this only shows that smile is contagious. When you smile it begets smile. If a person smiles at you you would be rude if you frowns back isn't it so even if you don't even know the person if he greets you with a smile it is a polite gesture to smile back. Maybe that person is just really very friendly and would love to smile at every one.

Smiling at every one is difficult. Suspicion comes easy. Yet it is never a wrong gesture to smile back. :)

You shouldn't smile to strangers. It could be dangerous.

Now seriously. Smiling is a kindly attitude to the others. Keep smiling.

I understand what you mean. Some smiles have different meanings to someone. Ill-mannered people think of it as easy access to those who smiled, an invitation perhaps for a bad occurrence.

I honestly feel that you do not have to know a person in order to smile at them. Actually when you smile at someone it could end up making their day especially if their day has not been going good. In reality it takes less muscles to smile anyways. I feel it is worth smiling at someone no matter who they are.

Smiling gets you through a bad day. It is beneficial to the one smiling, more so when passed on. :)

Yes,this very same thing happened to me. I was walking into a discount bread store and she gave me a warm and friendly smile. It really made my day. Funny how we always think we must know them from somewhere. Only a friend could like us so well. Maybe we have been taught that people are bad or evil out there. The reality is there are good people in this world.

The good people are many. It is just that bad people are making all the fuss and making themselves popular. I envy you gaining that smile. It is wise to pass it on. :)

As long as it's a pure unadulterated smile, it's always nice to give a smile back. Sometimes smiling back comes automatically. When somebody gives you one, you just can't help but give a smile back in return.

I know what you mean, people don't seem to interact with strangers anymore, no small talk or a hello or even a smile. Most of the time people just look down but that's probably because they feel uncomfortable because it's unusual to smile or say hello and they don't want uncomfortable eye contact with nothing being said. It's great how just a little thing such as a smile can stick out in your mind. I think everybody should be nice and care about other people, even strangers. Just giving someone a smile like that man did can go a long way in terms of making someone feel good.

A smile can go a long way. We can never know just how we made a difference in somebody else's life through a smile. These days smiles are rare. The thought of a rejected smile might also be what's stopping us from doing so.

I have had some stranger's smile thrown at me too. I used to get really confused before but if someone smiles at me these days, I just smile back. Actually it makes my day when a total stranger smiles at me. Little things that make one happy

That sounds so good. I make it a point to smile at waiters or salesladies whenever a good thing is done to me. Nevertheless, I smile just thinking about happy thoughts. :) IT is simply uplifting.

isn't it a shame that we are not used to a stranger's smile anymore? That we even might think he want to harm us or follow us back home? Only a few years ago it was normal to say "hi" on the streets to a stranger. If you do that now we are afraid he wants something from us, we feel even scared. I hope strangers will keep smiling at me or stay willing to make a spontanous chat with me, since these unexpected things make your day.

People change but the smile? not for the better. I miss the days where smiles and hi are freely given. Nowadays, some negative meanings are given to it by ill-mannered people. I feel sad though. Unexpected things, good ones, really can make your day. :)

Thats how our reflexes work. But be careful in such situation because we dpn't know what is there in that person's mind. Many great cheaters and criminals woo thier victims with a good gesture.

That I am cautious. There are so many things in this world that must be taken cared of. Even good gestures can beget bad ones. too sad.

I like to think of genuine smiles as the chocolate chips or sprinkles on the ice cream of life. I truly want to believe that there are still kind, honorable people in this crazy world we live in. Although, I have been burned by so many people, I can't help but want this to exist. I try to "be the change [i] want to see in the world". The human experience isn't much at all if we don't experience much or step out of our comfort zones ever so slightly!

You've been burned? Is that literally? How are you now? Forgive my concern. I was simply shocked by the thought of it. I hope you well. And it is good to know there are still many of us who keeps on smiling. :)
