Well I have never flown before I am afraid to fly, don't ask me why I guess I am afraid of heights and then the fact of the plane crashing into a big body of water LOL, see everyone says that driving is worst than flying but at least I can get help right away if something where to happen and even be on land, but when you are in a plane and something happends, it takes time to look for you and then depending on where you land if you will be ok or not I mean really, think about it, but its a chance one day I will take because I would like to see the world.

I have flown before & it's not so bad once you are actually in the air. Going up & the plane landing was the worse for me. My stomach did flip flops & I started to panic, but once your in the air(as long as you don't run into any turbulence or storms of any kind)it's a nice smooth ride. That being said after Sept. 11th happened I have had a big fear of flying that I can't seem to get over. I suffer from bad panic attacks from any form of motion or enclosed places such as cars, elevators etc. etc. But I refused to even think about getting on an airplane after the Sept. 11th attacks. I know many people have flown safely since then but I just can't bring myself to fly no matter what I may know to be true in my mind.

My favorite way to travel is by train and I quite like traveling by bus. To travel to long haul destinations from Europe like Australasia and South America I have to travel by plane. I have been on lots of different plane trips and have stayed perfectly safe. A plane can reach the other side of the world in just 24 hours so it is very fast.
I don't like all the security measures like not being able to take a bottle of water to drink. It just makes me buy drinking water at the duty free shop on the other side. Sometimes I pack a 2 liter bottle of drinking water in my checked in luggage. On a plane I like the take off and seeing the landscape below. I wear plastic things in my ears to prevent ear pain on descent and landing.
Air accidents are rare. Indeed more road accidents occur in the world. Pilots have to do very compressive training indeed. They always have a co-pilot with them. I think that good quality airlines are the best to travel on. My favorites are Qantas, Air New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic. I hope that you will become less afraid of flying so good luck.

Hi Walking
Flights and Me We are quite distant. The only time I could get to see a plane from so near was when I went to airport to pick up a client. And I was deafened for a while with those loud noises that it made... I am scared of heights and water reserves too... So maybe I would never ever think of getting onto a plane...
I love to travel though and Trains are my favorites. I love seeing the nature's beauty while travelling longer distances. And also, these are affordable.

I have flown several times (I can't WALK from New York to London) and I share your concerns, although not as intensely. I get very nervous at the moment of take off. I am scared for the first five minutes. After that, I am so bored that it doesn't bother me at all.

I was afraid of flying and still am somewhat. I went on an 8 hour flight a few years ago and it wasnt as bad as I thought but of course the thought of crashing wouldve made the whole trip scarier. I think that will be the last flight I take for a while but I would do it again if I had to.

Once upon a time I used to be afraid of flying but I have not flown in years and I really miss the experience now. I am also afraid of heights but I guess when you are in a plane you rarely see how high you are not unless your favourite position is a window seat which mine is. I think you really should get on to a plane and experience it for yourself. The best part for me is the taking off and the landing as there are major g forces involved. As the plane begins to taxi on to the runway and then starts to pick up speed you are suddenly pulled into your seat and it's really exciting.
It's amazing that I can still remember what it feels like considering I have not flown in years. I wish you well and hope you go for this experience. Andrew

Hi, Walking2010! I was afraid to fly only once, after a fortune-teller had told me that it was not good for me to travel by plane :)) Usually I don't take such things seriously. But this time suddenly I thought: "And what if she was right?" The flight went OK, of course, and I've never been afraid of flying after that.
I beleive that it's more dangerous to travell by car. And the plane can take you to very big distances in a relatively short time. It's amazing and this is the only way to really see the world.

Lol!
There's always those crash investigation shows where they how how a plane snapped in half and crashed which just makes your blood run cold. Not only can planes crash into water, there's still a chance of you surviving but crashing into a mountain or land. You're gone!
There's always fear that the plane might be faulty and you might crash but life is filled with risks. Even going on a ship has it's risks. No form of transport is safe except for maybe walking....

I waqnt to fly. Yes I am afraid of heights but I am the type of person who gets a thrill from facing the extreme. So even if I am afraid of heights I would not pass up the chance to be able to fly.
