I have never been to the city of Chicago, so my husband is taking us there to visit for our fifth anniversary which is coming up in October. Now I know for a fact I want to tour the Chicago History Museum, but other then that I don't know what else there is to see. I know I don't want us to travel all over the city in vain, not knowing where we are going & wind up seeing nothing at all...So does anyone know what there is to do in Chicago? Are there places to see that are not too far from the museum? I guess my question is, what is there to do in Chicago & what is a must see thing to do there? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Chi-Town my kind of town - Chicago!
Yes I live in Chicago and there are many place to see and or sight see. The Buckingham fountain is a great place where many enjoy touring. They have events during the day and the water is lite up in colors at night.
There is the Art institute, if you are into Art. The Field museum and the Shedd Aquarium are also favorites. The Lincoln Park Zoo is free, except for the parking fee. The BrookField Zoo there is a charge but much nicer.
Wow there are a lot of places to go, there is also the Planetarium too. Six Flags, during October has their Halloween Fest, then there is Grant Park with a lot of festivals, and so many others.
There are a lot of live theatrical shows during October, of which my boyfriend has a show going on in October as well. If you are in the area I could get you some comp tickets.
This site will give you an idea of what is happening during the month of October

Thank you so much. I will most definitely check out that link. The places you mentioned all sound wonderful. I think we are only going for three days though so we probably wont get to see it all.

You are welcome and if you find that you may be free one of the evenings and are interested in live theater and the show is still running I can get you both some free (comp) tickets.

I've actually never been there, but I heard that there are some really nice places to visit in Chicago. I've seen pictures that were taken there. Reminds me a lot of New York, but I heard it's not quite the same.

Some parts yes & other parts no. My husband & I had a really good time visiting Chicago, but unfortunately I was sick w/ a bad cold & couldn't really enjoy myself. I hoping that we can visit there again someday, maybe this summer perhaps.
