Well I know that the mobile phone should be powered off when take a plane. And I always do that. But one time when I was flying from London to Amsterdam, I just forgot to do that. I suddenly remembered and checked the phone when the flight was almost over. Of course it was powered off at once. Nothing happaned and no one noticed, but my face turned red immediately and heart speeded up. Do you ever have this kind of experience?

Have you guys ever notice that there is an option called "Flight Mode" in your cell phone? If you want to use some other features of your mobile phone during flight without network connection then it is ok, you may keep power on with flight mode and play games, watch pictures etc. no need to be afraid. Have a safe and pleasant journey.

Yeah its very useful when boarding a plane but instead of using my cellphone for play games and etc, I'd bring my psp with me much better.

I've never ridden a plane before but if I would, I'd turn off my cellphone. You'll never know what could happen if you don't follow the rules around those kinds of situations. Besides, they tested the myth already in Myth Busters. The signal cellphones transmit can interfere with the pilot's gauges, it's all true so that's another reason for me.

Personally speaking, I never have such experiences up to now. I'm always told that everyone should switch off the mobile phone or the security of flight would be damaged. But I also saw the articles which stated that actually the signal of mobile phone doesn't threaten the security of flight at all. I don't know whether such conclusions make sense or not. But I don't wanna run the risk of being caught and paying a large sum of fines.

Yes it's an SOP in every plane that you must turn off your mobile phones because if you let it on while on board it might cause the disruption of signals that might cause accident thus there's no signal above 30,000 to 40,000 so there's no reason to use mobile phone while on board ^^

Yes, I usually turn off my cell phone when I'm in a plane. There will be announcements made to remind passengers to turn off their phones but I always made sure to turn them off before they make the announcement. I think it's important to follow instructions and it's mostly for safety reasons.

As it's part of the preflight procedure and announcements when getting on a flight that phones should be switched off once the doors are closed,It's not something I've yet managed to forget...As my phone offers the "flight mode" option before it starts up when I switch on,I have turned the phone on to use some of it's offline functions while on a plane,though...

It happened to me one time too that I have forgotten to switch off my mobile. It was a good thing that no sms or call came so it wasn't obvious. I was not caught and nothing happened anyway. But one time, when I was on the plane and we were in the middle of our flight, there was a phone which rang. Worst was the man answered it so the flight attendant immediately called his attention. Then they made another announcement to switch off the mobile phones. However, that incident made me think of how far the signal of of these cellphones can go. And I doubted if does it really interfere and how? Hmmm maybe some can answer this.

You know how you can tell your cellphone is about to receive a message or ring from that pulsing tone you hear when it's near a TV or your computer's speakers? that's your phone communicating with a cellphone Mast somewhere near you. But There's no cellphone masts over Mile above ground in an aircraft,so the phone goes to maximum power to try and connect when it's hunting for a mast signal up there when you leave the phone on...I'd rather not find out what strong electronic interference can do to a plane's systems up there..how about You?

No I am good at shutting my phone down. Planes and Cruises I do so I wont get the outrageous charges if a family member or friend just happened to forget and call me.
I really did think that was said when listening to the captain before take off.
At least you were good enough to remember to shut it down when you thought of it.
It can mess up communications is why they need them off.
Now relax and just remember the next time you fly or cruise.
