DON'T put money on MAIL!

MAIL Tampering - unbelieving
Philippines
September 7, 2011 5:28am CST
Hello Lotters, I know that some of you are aware of this and probably that's why I never do MAIL. But i have just witness through a CCTV camera about some staff from a Philippine Postal Service that were intentionally opening the mail or package and stealing MONEY. This was reported on a Seminar exposing two officials. after the bust they started hiding, refused to go to work. not only just to avoid loosing job, (which will happen eventually) but mostly to sued for a crime. Post Office's can't be trusted anymore, not that am generilizing every one but we outta stop using the old fashioned mail. just imagine if they're putting drugs on our MAILS

Hello Bnpraveen, Not every has enough money to do money transfer because there is high rates in this kind of transaction. so, some people most specially in the provinces that really relies on sending mail because most money transfer kiosk can't reach rural areas. Have a nice day.

I saw that one too while having dinner. What a shame... really nobody can be trusted from the Philpost. This has been going on for years already. I remember when i was just about 5 years old, my aunt went to Germany and sent some money in her package hidden inside the stuffed toy and a necklace for her son, but it disappeared.

Hello toniganzon, Such a shame alright if only every one can afford LBC or money sender kiosk, the Postal service would definitely run out of business. if that is the case then they really are crooks there. i think it's better that there shouldn't be any sending of money through the postal service. have a nice day.

Wow that is crazy when I put money in the mail I usually wrap it in some sorry of letter so you can not see it through the envelope . This world is crazy anymore and it seems like we can not trust anyone. Cops, postal service, there are dirty people everywhere. I think that is why everything us going online and transferred. But now people like hackers can steal that to.

It seems like nothing is like how it use to be. I remember being younger when you can trust a stranger. Now you can not even trust your own family.

This is not something new LK. For the longest time, our postal service has been unreliable. What we saw that was shown on TV is only proof that there's monkey business in the postal office. This kind of stuff has been going on for ages, If my memory serves me right there was even a news item about a postal man bringing home the parcels to open and check for valuable items. To an extent the people who are sending those parcels are partly to blame also because they should have never included money in the parcels. We all know that any money included and undeclared is not going to be accounted for. If they want to send money they should course it through money order but some consider it to costly and come up with ways to beat the system, in effect those who are in the post office look at their things and if they found money it's good as theirs. It's just like they playing cat and mouse really.

The last time I received a mail was when I was in Highschool. That was when I still had a lot of penfriends or penpal. That was the time before pages and cellphones and even computers. It usually took a week to hear back from those friends of mine. But even then, the postal system is already unreliable because I still have to go the post office and check for myself all mails that arrived. Anyone can take mails even the ones that don't belong to them and the post master won't even care. It's just like having an Ukay ukay of letters. That time I already heard rumors of postal men opening letters and checking and getting the money if there's one included and sealing it back again before delivering it to the recipients, consider yourself lucky if the mail reaches you at all. I also heard from my friends that the easiest way to open a letter unnoticed is to boil water and let the hot vapor melt the paste in the envelope so you can easily open it and seal it again without a trace.

I've actually been using LBC for money transfers for a long time now, they're pretty good and very trustworthy. I would never trust my money with anyone else.

I never use postal service as a money transfer mode because it's very slow and I prefer LBC or Western Union because you can receive your money within 24 hours.

hi letran I learned the hard way not to send cash to pay o n a bill as someone employed at the ambulance company I am paying my bill down on is crooked and stole the twenty dollar bill I sent in payment on my big bill.so I was not credited with that payment so from now on I sent only twenty five dollar checks. I pleaded with them that I did send them twenty dollars in a twenty dollar bill but of course I received no response.so I was really stupid but I learned never to put cash in the mail as nobody seems honest anymore.

Hatley, it is not the same like in the 70's. In the 70's era, my grandparents always send cash money through mail, whenever my aunt or uncle need money for study. It pose no problem at all, as they did received the cash. But not now. We need to use money transfer service in our country, for the safety of our money. Even my country post office head, had issued a notice, informing customers, not to send cash through mail anymore...

Hello hatley, that's awful, who would want to steal money from you knowing you are sick. i believe we all make mistakes and it's not to our liking but we just have to do our best not to repeat it again. have a nice day my friend.

From what I have heard it is not just a "postal worker stealing money on other peoples packages" but it is darker than that. Packages are used by criminal organizations to transport cash/letters/messages and other stuff and those postal workers act as a receiver of those items. From what I have been told, The paper that is taken that was shown on tv is a message from some part of this country to manila. They say that this is a report from the provinces to the "leader". But from my experience, we have in the past recieved money by postal services but not anymore because it is faster and safer by just using money transfers.

Hello Jopak, I don't know how dark it is, maybe some one's gonna need to compete with the National Postal service so that they will shut down and those employees will lose their jobs. I can't believe we let this get away for so many years. so sad indeed. have a nice day.

This kind of crime has been going on for a long time now. I was suprised people are still putting money on their mails/packages when there are so many ways of remitting/sending money now to any part of the country, even internationally. These corrupt/thieving mail workers have connections with those working in the X-ray machines, who give them tips about those parcels that they detected containing money or any hot items that they can steal. My aunt who lives in Australia stuffed some money into a toy car which he sent to my cousin. The toy car arrived, but the money was gone. We have a hearty talk to teach her how to send money properly because the snail mail is the slowest and most unsafe to send valuables and money.

Hello Greenpeas, there are people who couln't afford money transfer probably because the rates are too high indeed.I dont know but they should put more CCTV camera's there and do something too have them captured. good thing my relatives NEVER sent money through the mail, always money transfer.have a nice day

They don't have cameras to catch that sort of thing? I've never heard of that happening over here. Although I have seen where people steal from mail boxes outside of people's houses.

Hello Pointless-Question, No they won't or they will loose their jobs. I don't know when they started doing this but it's only this day where they got busted for sure. and am glad they were indeed busted for this. i feel sad for those who are depending on MAIL, they shouldn't put their money. good thing there's money senders now like Western Union. have a nice day. .

This is actually the reason why I stopped sending letters or sending money and parcels using the Philippine Postal Service. Besides the fact that they are really slow when it comes to delivery, I'd rather have that feeling of safety especially when it comes to imported goods. It doesn't matter if I have to pay huge amounts of money for the delivery as long as it gets to where it should suppose to go.

Hello goggles, That's the problem, not every one has the money when it comes to paying a huge amount for sending some mails. still, people should be considered cleaning up the mess and repackaging the whole post office and setting the reputation right again by giving the right service back to the people.

Hello Judy890, that's because they can't that there in your country because you got standards and protocols to follow. it would be damn shame if it happens in the UPS or any other package courier there in the US. have a nice day.

Yes, I've seen the video. This is serious stealing. That's why we can never trust the government anymore. They're all about taking from those who are innocent and naive. I was actually surprised how they knew the money was behind the phone's casing. The newscaster said that this might be more of a syndicated crime than just a regular robbery.

Hello haopee, It's hard to believe and it's really sad to know that even at the most trusted placce for our mails are now doing something a lot more thievery than safe keeping. they have been doing this a long time and i remember it the first time a decade BACK. Have a nice day.

Letran, same goes for my country here. The Head of my post office here had issued a notice informing all their customers as not to send any cash through mail. Those who still send cash as at their own risk. Even i ever lost some small jewelries which i send through mail to my friends. Now, whenever i want to send any gift to my friends, i prefer to send through courier service. If i ever want to send cash to my parents, i will use the local money transfer service, since it is more safe...

Hello myfb, Wow good thing the post office itself reminded you of that while ours didn't. we had to realize it individually before we can actually avoid sending cash on mails. courier service is a lot better than anything else like mail, people can't be trusted there any more

I have seen that news and i don't wonder, because that's my notion even before. So, we don't ever allow money from abroad put in those mails. But yes, my friend from Canada tried once, and sent me a card. Then , she inserted a Canadian 20$ tucked inside the card, hidden in a paper wrapped in carbon paper. Well, i was able to get it. But after that, i never allowed it anymore, for fear that it could really be stolen at the PO.

Hello Simplyd, Wow aren't you the lucky one! if the letter didn't have something to cover the money then that would have been empty. It's sad knowing that we can never have a chance to trust the post office ever again just because of this incident. Have a Nice day.

i saw that on tv too! and i am angry. my aunt used to mail us money and chocolates before and maybe these people also opened our mail and got some of it. it is so unfair that they get other peoples things. i wish that more of their bad doings be exposed so that they will be caught and given necessary punishment.

Hllo Katrinapaz, I am sure some of them are behaving now because of the exposure shown in the CCTV camera. They are foolishly loosing their reputation because of this and i hope they DO shut down one day and convert it into a government agency instead. Have a Nice day

When putting money, or checks in the mail, you are either suppose to keep it really thick by adding other paper, or use those slips, I think the bank sells them or had them, where it covers the bill or checks and blocks the shadow when placed on the light. But what those people are doing are really bad. I know however, it might be safer to use checks, as it has a designated person it is going to, or wire transfers or money orders are best when delivering money. This is very similar to airport luggage's, where sometimes they open your luggage, and slap on a security check sticker to convince you they opened it for security purposes. But always use common sense, don't deliver or allow others to handle items that you know are valuable without using precaution. Make sure your object or whatever you are sending is not obvious in the package.

Ye, I started YouTubing some methods on opening an envelope, without having an obvious tear. Apparently you can leave a sealed envelope in the freezer and after a few hours, the seal will break. Afterwards you can re-moisture the seal, to seal the envelop back up. So I guess people have become pros, and just like money. Maybe we should invent a new type of seal for these envelopes.

Hello Letran. That kind of information is very annoying. People that we are suppose to trust like police, mail, teachers, are people that now we have to be careful with them. (of course not all of them, I think is always a minority that do that kind of things). Here what we use to do is make a money gram to send the money so in that case only the person whose name is in the money gram can cash it.
• Philippines

Hello Rosa26, Indeed very annoying and makes the postal service going out of business any time very very soon. money gram also exist here and it's good because they can send money with out giving us the trouble. have a nice day
