Anime and not Animes.

I kinda get aggitated when i see people using animes instead of Anime.
Why?
I can't imagine people saying Animationses or cartoonses.
Anime is a whole.
Anime - series is the correct way or just Anime.
In our ears it might sound weird but it is like what i am typing here.
You can say that you like a certain anime but you can't say i love certain animes.
The correct line is i love certain Anime series.
Just like many people call Manga a serie while it is a volume like any other book has them.
Manga on the other hand is the same as Anime, a whole.
But you can add 's to it making it Manga's which would be like strips.
Add s directly to it and you get stripses.
Many people wonder why i put my time in this but if you think about it when there are people remembering words from their favorite series or quotes or thinking they can talk Japanese by saying baka, arigatou, dame, kawaii, korosu et cetera.
Those are the words that are beeing said 85% of the time.
No need to be Einstein to know what it is after watching +- 50 series.
There are pople spending 100+ hours to create their ultimate cosplay suite.
And there are those wasting their time to point others to the right things like i am doing now.

This is what I think, the term "animes" is the shortened version of "Japanese animation series". We all know that "anime" is Japanese animation and that it is the counterpart of the west's "cartoon" and "cartoon" has a plural form of "cartoons" so to westernized "anime" and to give it a plural form, we add "s" to it. You can't blame people for doing this because westernizing words have been happening for a long time. And it's the same for the word "manga". I am surprised that you treated these two words differently because they are both Japanese words and Japanese do not add "s" to their nouns to make them plural. Non-Japanese people only do this. And "manga" means a comic book, not just a strip or strips or whatever.
And what is wrong with people using Japanese terms that they learn from whatever anime they watch or manga they read? They have the right to do it. They just need to be careful on using these words since Nihonggo has grammar, too just like English and they also have gender-based words.
Anyway, it's good that there are observant people like you.

It would really seem stupid to try hard on speaking a language that you don't really know. We can always give them a C for effort. And besides, that's what fans do, they imitate what they like. Also, maybe they are in the stage of learning? And when you are in that stage, you are bound to make mistakes. Of course, it's bad to claim you can do something when in fact, you can't do it properly.
(Oh, did you intentionally not put "s" at the end to the word "series"? I don't think you can write that word without the "s" at the end. No offense meant.)
If they can't explain what anime actually is, then maybe you can explain it well to them. You don't have to be so critical.

About people speaking Japanese while they can't :
They use it in the daily life and make idiots of themselfs and claiming 'i can talk Japanese'.
While only knowing those words that are repeated nonstop in every serie.
Oh well, i rather keep with the original and keep it original and i don't want to create a westernized version of Anime.
I do hate it that people use it in the daily life and they can't explain what Anime actualy is.

I got your point of view and you are a good observant too. People speaks the way they like so as long it's clear enough to understand besides you want a formal conversation so you want your speakers to speak formally, well there's nothing wrong with that =]
When people ask me about anime series that I've watch I always tell them I watched those animes, I guess there's nothing wrong with that because there's a countless anime series to watch.
As for cosplay. Yes people spend many times in building a costume because they want to give their best to win the prize. If I were in their shoes I will do the same ^^

Well it's up to them where should they spend their time.
About the way you type people. For me I prefer typing it ppl rather than pople because the word pople is somewhat onomatopoeic and it might give an offensive meaning in some countries. Breaking grammar rules somehow creates a masterpiece ^_^

When I was a lot younger I used to say animes because I didn't really understand. I though you could make it plural. It didn't cross my mind that it really should be anime series. But even when you say series how would you make that plural if you are watching more than one. would it be serieses that doesn't sound right either. I don't think showing someone the right way to say something is wasting your time.

Well.. all these can be very easily understood if one understands Japanese. I've been learning Japanese for a few years and since words like Anime and Manga are japanese words, it simply doesn't make sense to "pluralize" it by adding an "s". In fact, Japanese don't pluralize the nouns. They use counters instead and this will tell the listener whether is it singular or plural.
But well, for those people who doesn't know Japanese words, they use the english way to "pluralize" words.

Hello, grangeke! First of all, i'd like to salute your idea of starting this discussion. It's a very valid point of view. When you're actually interested in a phenomenon, you should do your best to learn as much as you can about it and use appropriate vocabulary when speaking about that certain topic.
What's even more curious to me is how certain people watch/like some anime series yet they have no idea what they are. That they are Asian animations, not American or European. Some of them can't even distinguish the graphic features of each and i find that even more deplorable.
Kudos again for the discussion; maybe it will raise some question marks and give some more intel to people on the subject
