I don't know much about the Humane Society. For example, is it just based in the US despite me receiving emails from them here in the UK or do they operate around the world?
I'd love to know.
Anyway, in one of the latest emails I received from them it included a rather touching video showing a load of cats in Florida getting re-homed.
Adorable!

I loved that cat that couldn't see very well. Definitely would've been mine if I'd been in the vicinity.

There is a Humane Society of the United States. I'd advise you not to ever give to them though. Only 1% of donations go to animals. They don't share any of their donations with the real heroes of protecting animals, the local humane societies.
Right now they're under investigation by the IRS because of keeping the money. They spend more on their pension fund than on animals.
If you want to help animals, give to a local shelter. Or a no-kill shelter. They're the ones that are hurting in these bad times. They're scrounging for every penny and trying to save animals with nothing but scraps.
The video is adorable, I know. I used to support HSUS. I gave them lots of money. When I found out what they were really doing with it, and how little they helped anyone, I felt used and furious.
If you don't believe me, check out sites that rate charities. They show how much a given charity receives, and how much is used for what it's meant for. It's heartbreaking, finding out they've never sent a dime to any local shelters. They're all about the PR. If it makes them look good, they're on it.
I think one site to look at is HumaneWatch.org or something similar to that. It's a good place to find things out.

I don't give money to any charities anymore because I can't afford it. However, I never knew that about the Humane Society until now and thanks so much for posting this, as others may be enlightened in the same way I just have done.
If it's any consolation, both my cat and Mum's cats have been adopted from a local, independent cat shelter in Mum's home Town. I have never been a fan of the RSPCA (as an example) as they work in very similar ways to the Humane Society, it seems to me.

I don't think the humane societies as a whole are the same company as HSUS. I used to send out mail for each of these. HSUS was a giant mailer. The other humane societies were tiny mailings, each one was specific to a community. They might be the same company, but I really don't think so.
I've received mail from HSUS, but never from the Humane Society. I think they just share part of their name. But I avoid all of them anyways, at least through the mail. There's a no-kill shelter near here that I buy dog food for when I'm shopping. There's also a humane society in a different town and it's local. Neither of these have ever received a dime from HSUS, and they're struggling to try to help the animals. You might say HSUS is the king and these guys are just peons. Forget about sharing!!
I have a soft spot for our humane society. They found my lost dog and reunited us. I think humane society is a generic name and HSUS just jumped on the bandwagon.

I have heard about humane society .It seems to be a children and animal protection organization. However I am not clear what its purpose is and how it operates.I can't help associating it with a homeless female dog that has been here at the corner of our block of flats for several months.A couple of days ago,she gave birth to three cute puppies .People around here including our family come to see her one by one and bring her food, sugar as well as cloth. We all have sympathy for her meanwhile wory about what her outcome is?even if so far, so good.

Awww, how sweet you're all feeding the dog. Have you a name for her and the pups yet?

The female dog is a big yellow one,so we all call her DAHuang(transliteration). We haven't given names to the pups so far.

We have various animal welfare charities that do what the Humane Society does, but (maybe) on a smaller scale. However, this is a smaller country so I guess the Humane Society being so large does help in rescuing and re-homing over 500 cats.
Awesome!
