How did you turn away from an addictive game at Facebook?

I used to be a Farmville addict (talking like a real drug addict ). There's no day that would pass without me playing the darn game. If I combine the time I play it in a day, it would be more than half a day. When there is no computer within my reach, I hurry home just to play that game. When I'm not playing it, I keep on thinking about it. It became really time-consuming.
Time came that I felt I'm wasting too much precious time on it. I wanted to quit. But an addiction is hard to deal with. You've been used to it and it became part of your life. But I want to spend my precious time on something more productive. I was thankful that I got really busy with a certain project at work. It helped me forget this awful, awful game! So time passed by that I played the game less and less. Right now, I'm totally rehabilitated. I don't play the game anymore and I have even blocked it in my account. As well as other games. ^^
How about you? What games were you addicted with and how did you quit it?

I know exactly how the addiction is! I was so addicted to the game called Mafia Wars on facebook that I spent all my time, literally all of my time!! I'd stay up all night, wouldn't have time for nothing, not even for dinner LOL and of course my homeworks haha! Anyway one day I just thought it was enough and no game was worth messing my time table up so I just stopped playing it. It wasn't that hard too haha!

I never played Mafia Wars but it was like Vampire Wars, right? I used to play VW, too and I was addicted to it also. Until the time came that it just felt so stupid to be playing that game! We are better off without those games!

I wonder why people could be addicted to games? What is in those games that make them addicted. I can't be an addict to a game, I swear. You know why? I don't indulge in anything that will just waste my time. Instead of playing facebook game I would rather just post here at myLot so I could earn some money. But you know I've seen so many friends of mine addicted to facebook games and they are even inviting me to join them. Ha!ha!ha! ALL I ever reply is this...."I'm not stupid to waste my time".

Maybe because you think too much of the game, you think so badly of winning that it gets your brain stressed.

Well, I'm sorry if we're stupid to have tried playing those games. You know, people play games to de-stress. It's like an outlet, a form of entertainment when you're tired or something. It lets you relax. Maybe your way of de-stressing is different from us, but that's our way and I don't think it's a stupid way. It would only be stupid if you let yourself be too addicted that you don't get to be productive anymore, that you only play that game forever and a day.
Thanks for sharing.

I might be a little addictive to one of the games on King.com as I really enjoy destressing with a few games where you shoot down bubbles before going to sleep at night. Sometimes a few games turns into more, especially if I am playing for money and winning for a change.

I think I've played a game like that before, Drannhh. It's really entertaining. The bubbles are hanging on the "ceiling" and you have a shooter, if you don't shoot the bubbles on time and they touch the "floor", then it's game over.

I use to be addicted to cafe world, but after a while it was taking too long to load so i gave it up.Every day i would be playing because i would not what the food to be spoils.
Now am addicted to farmville, which i still play daily but not like before.I use to log in to farmville daily, now i only do that once a day.
I turn away from a lot of Facebook games, some are very addictive and take up a lot of times.
But now i am busy,so i only play one game and that is farmville I just love farming.

Hi tash! Maybe you can love myLot more than love farming in FV. You'll get real money here rather than farm coins.

Ha ha! I never got caught up in any "games", but I did get addicted to Super Poke Pets. It's not a game, but you go there to decorate/shop for your pet's habitat, rack up coins by taking care of your and your friends' pets. It was an obsession to get all these coins daily and to create new habitats . . . and hella exciting when new items came out on certain day of the week. It was also sort of a silent contest amongst certain friends - to see who had the coolest habitat. So mindless, eh?
I think real life took over and I just could barely get any time online (busy with the kids) - my limited time started to be on earning sites - and I just got on Facebook to see what was up with everyone. No time for the poor Super Poke monkey I had (if you don't spend time with it, flies buzz around your pet - ha ha). So it got neglected. And then they changed the security stuff on Facebook anyway . . . and I didn't want to deal with compromise just for this Super Poke Pet thing (which by then I wasn't hooked on anymore anyway). As you said, I'm totally rehabilitated too - ha ha.

I think that's a game, too. It's just like FarmVille and FishVille where you decorate your own farm and aquarium. And then you visit their farms to work or visit their aquarium to feed their fish.
I'm glad a lot of people are totally rehabilitated from their addiction.

But I think Farmville and all those "ville" games get you more involved . . . Super Poke Pets is way simple - a serious no brainer. It wasn't popular on my friends list - and the people who did have a pet just left them there even though I kept taking care of them . . . it was kind of a sad and lonely deal (the pets don't interact with other pets - it's just "there"). In any case, yah, I'm glad I got over my addiction - ha ha!

I have never played Facebook games, so I've never gotten addicted to them. I have come close to addiction with Squidoo and Zazzle, and I'm afraid myLot is going to have to be kept under control. I should be doing daily sales reports right now, and here I am on myLot again. I have one unfinished Squidoo lens and one unfinished Hub, and another new one I promised to write on my church reunion. So what am I doing here? I have almost finished responding to all my current notifications, and when I finish, I will make myself do at least ten sales reports before I come back. i'm still alert, so I can't use the excuse that my brain isn't up to sales reports to stay on myLot instead of doing what I need to do for business.
I have to save myLot as a reward now for finsihing some other work. Do one thing on my list and then spend some time on MyLot. I hope that will keep me from addiction here.

Get back to work, Barb! No, you can't use that excuse because you can always "condition" your brain to make those sales report.

I am proud to say that I did more than the quota of sales reports I had set as a goal. I also have a goal of downloading my AMEX into Quickbooks, reconciling the account, checking my back balance, and paying the AMEX bill tonight. The I have two orders to process and a Hub to finish.

I had the same problem too before. But one time I fasted for 3 days and part of my fasting was to fast with FB as well. After 3 days of not being able to play I suddenly have lost interest in playing. Besides I had been wasting so much time playing that I ended up playing only in the computer than with my children. Although, I still play some game on the computer but not as much as before. I would rather spend time with my kids now.

Good for you! You are lucky you have that kind of patience and perseverance to fast. I get to fast with internet but only those times that I really don't have a choice. When I don't get to face a computer for a day, I feel like I'm gonna be sick. I'm just glad I'm over those games.
And I agree. It's better to spend your time with your kids.

the reason why i joined and created an account in facebook is because of its games i've played so many games in facebook like mafia wars, farmville, yoville, petville, empires and allies, sims, etc. i ended up quitting playing those games because of my slow internet connection and also because of my baby but if it weren't for those 2 things, maybe i'm still hooked up in playing those games

I haven't been totally addicted to facebook games. There was a time that I was hooked with Pet Society and Farm Town, but these lasted just for weeks. Pet society lasted for a few months, but I got bored easy. I stay addicted for a few days and then just quit. I haven't had a long-time addiction to games. I get addicted for a short period only. I just know when to stop when I'm satiated already. I guess getting bored easy has its perks

I agree! And that's really fortunate of you! I thought I get easily bored with things but with these games, it seems I have a tendency to get "attached" to it. But I'm just so glad I'm over them!

Same here, I've been playing farmville before but I was really get addicted on playing CAFE WORLD. I've been playing the game since I've started my Facebook account. For the record I am in level 252 already, until last July 2011 that I decided to stop playing any game on Facebook anymore. I am glad that I've decided to stop that game and focus on more serious on line job that I could be proud of someday.

Good for you! In my case, I was also already a high-level player and then I decided to stop last May this year. I also wanted to focus on myLot where I can earn for my time!
Good work for both of us.

Me too! I was being an addict in playing with Mafia Wars before. Also with typing maniac and Restaurant City. It consumes most of my time back then. Good thing that I was just reviewing for the board exam back then and already graduated when I became an addict. It suits up my bum days. I was an addict of it that I even set my alarms just to be able to get the timing of the refresh of the energy and stamina of my Mafia Wars account. I really don't know how I stopped playing it. Maybe I just outgrown those games that I suddenly stopped playing and eventually things get busier in my life. I guess I was just addicted to it since I got nothing else to do back then.

You set alarms for it??? It's a good thing you did not answer Mafia Wars in your board exam..

I'm not familiar with that game but I agree, when there's no other players in your level, you get bored of the game. There's no one to share the delight of being in that level.

Why are you competing with your ex-husband, Jill?? That's not strange, it's a little funny.
I play Bejeweled Blitz, too but I don't play it too much.

i was addicted to mousehunt! but i eventually quit as it got boring and the stuff which i do on mousehunt became rather repetitive and got boring. What followed was that the time spent on it began to decrease more and more. however, it took me a year for this addiction to totally dissipate. It was hard, i tried to quit many times, but all ended up in failure. Knowing addiction, it is hard to release wants you have gotten it. It began pulling down my results and so i knew i had to do something about it. That was when i knew this had to stop. But ironically, it still ended up in failure. so i only stopped when the game got boring enough for me to let go of it. Thank god. I really agree it is very hard to let go of an addiction, but i am so grateful that i have finally let loose of it. lol :D

I was addicted to Mafia Wars, so addicted that I used to be logged in to facebook almost the whole day I was at home. My job does not allow me to log in to the internet, so I would go on the internet kiosk and log in to play that game. I was so addicted that I had 5 facebook accounts just to get more weapons and transfer them all to my main account. The spare time that I had waiting for the energy to fill up, I would be on a Mafia wars community page trading with other mafia clans and members who would be online almost every time I Logged it.
The addiction was so much that my frends would call me a mafia guys and would find me online everytime each of them logged in. I had to give up the addiction and so after trying for almost months, I finally succeeded. Even though I still addicted to facebook I am very happy that I quit Mafia Wars.

You had 5 other Facebook accounts?? I only had one other account and I did not even make it for myself! One of my neighbors in Farmville made the account for me so I can get more FV dollars as I did not know how to. I did not want another account but I wanted the FV dollars and I told myself I will not use it anymore once I get the FV dollars. But my addiction kicked in and I started playing two farms. I am also happy that I quit Farmville. Let's cheers to our quitting those games! lol

For facebook game i was an addict in ninja saga before. Of course I spend around 6-8 hours a day before just to increase my level and not to be left behind. i want my character to be the best has he is compare to other players. I also use the PVP feature something like that to battle online players in other country randomly. Then later when many cheats/ cheat engine were available I find it boring because many players are cheating just to win and then I stopped playing it. More recently I was an addict in travian (it's not a facebook app) it's actually an online browser game. I even spend around 16 hours sometimes. Travian is very addicting game and challenging because you cheat on it. Now I no longer play online games.

I find a game boring, too if there are too many people who know how to cheat. It's unfair.
Wow, you spent 16 hours playing that game?? Didn't your back hurt??
We are fortunate to have been able to quit those games.

I was never addicted to facebook games but I can understand where you are coming from. I used to play them but to be frankly honest, they became boring to me and I stopped. Unfortunately, the people I used to play with keep sending me things from these games on my facebook wall.

Hi tech! What I did was I simply blocked these games so that no one can send me anymore gifts or requests.
