Well-known brands are best to buy most of the time but they are expensive. Sometimes we are also conditioned by commercials that they are the best product. But for me, I keep on trying new products and compare it to the leading brand since they are much cheaper. If they can level with quality then I would switched to other brands.

That's like Tide, my mom used it and I started when I first moved out on my own, I know it works... but I do have a second favorite now.
there are a lot of no name brands out there... the chances of me using them are slim... the quality isn't there.
It's all trial and error.

I would definitely go for brand. For me, brand represents reliability and quality. Yes, there are many rip offs available in the market at very cheaper prices, but quality matters to me more than quantity. I don't mind spending a few bucks more for a reliable product.

I agree with you pratz, specially when it comes to appliances. It has to be a brand that is tested and proven to be of quality.
But as to other things, i don't go for brand but for the function. Say for example , a shampoo that says it has the ingredients that i know will be good for the hair indeed, i will buy it over the popular brands. I will try it and once i have proven it to be good, you bet ,that i will patronize it always.

it's a mix for me, I suppose. For example, if I were to get electronic appliances, I usually go for the ones with good brand names. But for simple things like handbags or shoes, I usually go for those without the brands, just so long as it fits my usage, then I'm quite satisfied with them.

I go for the brand first. One who is trusted is weighed better consideration. Then go for the function if you have brand options. I guess that's it. :)

For me it all depends on the product, for example I like to buy Tide laundry soap because I know it works, sometimes I will try a brand a friend will recommend, like the last time I bought laundry soap it wasn't my normal brand but my friend's clothes looked good and clean so I thought I would try it. Now I have two brands of laundry soap, so I have a choice if there is sales.
electronics... research and brand names... there are some brand names that are trusted, because the product works. PS3 (playstation 3) because it has blue ray and it can play movies and games, That there is function.
It all depends on what the item is... cheaper isn't always better and most expensive isn't always the best.

I think that depends on what we are talking about. Somethings are so expensive, that is better pay a little more to have a good and comproved quality product. But there are cases that we can try some different products, even if we don't have a previous information, like soap, shampoo and others.
Nowadays we have a great way to find information about the products, the internet, where we can find the opinion of a lot of people, all around the world. Obviously, even when you buy a great brand you can have troubles, so you have to measure other thing, like the facility of maintenance.
