You have been warned, the above video will make you cry. It shows chimps that were rescued from a research lab in Austria way back in 1997.
They have not been allowed outside until now.
I really don't know why it's taken them so long to allow them outside as Monkey World in England had some monkeys that had been in British Labs all their lives and were allowed out a lot sooner.
I suppose it depends what type of experiments were conducted and how traumatised they were.
I hope the enclosure is spruced up a bit more so they have something to do. It's a shame the video doesn't have sound but I guess you can concentrate on their expressions..and it's this that made me cry.
Let me know what you think. I don't want this discussion to be about animal experiments...just what you see and how you feel about the chimps now they've been let out.
One thing's for sure. Their abusers will rot in Hell.

Awww, this was so cute. Ever since I've seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I've developed a special liking for chimps and I felt really bad about the ones kept in labs for experiments. It was really nice to see them get out for the first time after being cooped up for so long. Thanks for sharing the video!

They're so human-like, it was like watching children..and imagine the same thing happening to them?
Glad you liked the video, at least it's a positive thing for them, seeing the sky for the first time.

It's awful to imagine the horrible conditions they must have lived in. Luckily, it seems they are going to have a better life now, especially since they get to see the sky and feel the sunshine!

I am moved by the discription " they then appear to celebrate their new found freedom by hugging each other and laughing."It looks as if they are prisoners of life imprisonment that are set free.At first they are half believing, half doubting ;then are overjoyed.Such a cruelty greatly offends me .They should put themselves in chimps'place.

They should, I agree. It can stop me from sleeping wondering what on earth is happening to the world that we can deny animals the right to fresh air.
However, I TRY to believe there is more good in the world than evil..but it is hard, sometimes.

That is an emotional video. It made me happy they were free in a very sad way. To think they were held up like that for so long. It reminds me of the rescue dog I have. She is a miniature schnauzer. Her paws had never touched the grass before we got her. They had her in a kennel all her life just giving birth to puppies. It was so sad. We had to rehabilitate her totally. We had to teach her about stairs and people. She was 6 years old when we got her and now she is 9. She is a different dog for sure and is spoiled rotten..lol. She is still a little funny turned but not in a mean or aggressive way. She finds comfort under the bed and in her favorite doggy bed. She still plays sometimes even though she up in her years. We had to teach her how to do that too. I think that there are special punishments for those that have no heart.

What a lovely post...in so many ways and thanks. All the cats (both mine and Mum's) are rescues. Mum's were hold up in a shed with no food as their owners decided to leave them there when they moved. An elderly neighbour kindly fed them and, subsequently Cat's Paws (the shelter) took them in. One of the cats is nearly always first to the "nosh pot" as she is frightened she is not going to get any food. She can't get out of the habit of being in the shed and first to any food being given to her, in front of her daughter, who sits and watches before wading in lol.
My own cat, Flojo is from the same shelter but her history isn't as clear, apart from the fact the family who gave her up said she "went for" one of the children. This is why she is now in our home with no kids..and no other cats either as she HATES them!
How kind of you to take that wonderful dog into your home. I totally agree with that last sentence too.

That is awesome to watch them coming out into the open like that. They did not trust at first and were very cautious, but after they came out, you could see the look of joy on their faces.
They are incredibly close in genes to humans, so why they were not let out sooner is a puzzle an cruel in itself. Imagine if we were not allowed outside for that amount of time. It would be like being in prison.

I thought that too, Bill. They've been punished enough being experimented on, it's such a shame they've had to wait so long for some fresh air, despite being rescued in 1997!
Now we know why guys look up at the sky after being let out from prison after a VERY long sentence. It does amount to the same thing, you're right.

Hiya Janey,
At long last they have been let out and at least they can see Daylight and outside as well. Is that going to be forever do you think?
Just hope that they allow them to stay out now for the rest of their lives poor things.
It was very touching to see them peeping from behind the Doors before popping their heads out to see what it was all about and how they all hugged each other afterwards too.
Nice Video thanks Janey.xxx

I believe this is going to be a permanent thing. Obviously, they will come inside overnight so they're safe..and also if it rains, one would think. Mind you, rain is something they won't have experienced either so I reckon they should be filmed in the rain too, see what they do.
I loved it when they hugged too and it brought tears to my eyes.
