Do you usually fix it yourself or do you look for a repairman to fix it?

I'm just wondering. Have you ever tried searching the net for possible solutions to fix it yourself so that somehow you'll manage to keep the money instead of paying for the repair? Well for me I usually fix things by myself but not everything. How about you?

If I can't fix the thing myself, I automatically take it to a repairman. I don't wanna experiment on stuff, it might get broken completely. If I know how to fix it, that's when I fix it.

You got a point here. Experimenting sometimes result from getting things broken. When it's rush I also usually take it to the repairman especially when we need to use it right now. If not, I always search for a solution on the internet. Funny though sometimes it takes me 2 to 3 days looking for the right instructions searching the net while fixing it takes only 10 to 15 minutes. HAHA!

You'll find all sorts of do-it-yourself videos on Youtube but sometimes what you're looking for isn't really easily available. There paid sites though but the point is fixing it without spending a dime.

Yeah, the point here is to fix without spending a dime. Other youtube videos sometimes do not match what you are looking for so I ended up reading e-books and tutorials.

Actually, you have more chance of learning software coding on the internet. There are a lot of resources regarding different coding programs out there.

Well thats good. Actually I specialized in computers. Computer Technicians are too expensive to be paid for a simple task that is why I researched for common computer problems and now even complex ones. But I don't code softwares.

I would normally try to fix things myself as I definitely don't have the funds to bring a repair man in. If we are talking about computers then I definitely fix and repair everything myself as I'm into computers you see. I think that it definitely pays to educate yourself when it comes to doing things around the home, there are a lot of good books out there that will virtually teach you how to do everything from the simplest of tasks.
There's a sense of achievement to be had as well. I know I feel good once I have fixed something and that's what counts, that good feeling you receive for your efforts. Sadly, with a lot of people starting to tread this path I fear the poor repair chap will be losing out on business and will have to think of other ways to earn an income. Andrew

Correct! The feeling of getting things done really counts.
Because a lot of people are now getting wiser and trying to fix things by themselves, repairmen are getting wiser too. They ask for a bigger amount of payment just to fix a simple task especially when these people don't even know what's wrong with the product. e.g. a simple damaged fuse sometimes cost 10$. While a fuse cost only .10 cents.

The good thing on what we are trying to do is we are learning from it before spending money for a repair...^^

I most likely leave it to the professionals. Unless I am absolutely, one hundred and ten percent beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can fix it with any problems. Granted, if I could, I could save a bit of money. However, I could make an already moderate problem rather worse when I rather try and tinker with things beyond my base of knowledge any amount of time.
There are just some times where do it yourself, because doom it yourself. I have had many instances where that was in fact the case. If I could try and fix it myself, I would make the attempt. However, I am not going to tempt fate unless I am absolutely sure. Trust me when I say that there are times where it is just best to leave things to the professionals.

Sometimes it is really the best to leave things to professionals. Agree!

Hi I am an ex-engineering toolmaker, I think that tends to make me think I can repair most things myself. It certainly makes me critical of others work. On looking at the job to be done if I see that special equipment or ability would make it much quicker and or better then in comes the specialist.

Yes, most times, I try to find solutions on the internet first before I call up someone over to repair. I will usually attempt to fix some minor problems with the guide from the internet firstly and majority of the times, I succeed and I get to learn as well. But if I fail to do so and usually, with high voltage electrical products, I will get a repairman.

Well that's good, sometimes safety is better than experimenting. Experts always know the best but at least we learn from what we search..^^
