Can you choose whom you'll fall in love?

Each person is entitled to fall in love. My friend said if he fell in love with someone will not exceed his love for God. Someone else who said he can not fall in love with the opposite gender even though he had trying hard. Another friend of mine who told me, she does not want to fall in love with a person of different religions. There was my neighbor who said he fell in love with a married person even though that person not attractive at all and also not possible to have. Actually, can you choose on who you'll fall in love?
