In my opinion there are bigger pollutors than A.C.
Look at the traffic. I can tell you that the percentage of traffic pollution is bigger than the percentage of A.C. All the busses, trucks, cars.

I think that the A.C is not such a big problem as other pollutors.
Look for example traffic. All the cars and busses, trains, trucks..
I can bet that the percentage of A.C polluting the air is lower that the percentage of traffic polluting the air.

Many years ago air conditioners in the U.S. were required to switch to a gas that didn't harm the ozone layer. I don't know about other countries. It has been long enough now that there probably are no A.C. units left in the U.S. that haven't been replaced or been converted to the different gas. If you are thinking about global warming because of the ozone layer being destroyed, the main problem is too many people.

hi arya007 here in the US we have rep laced those air conditioners with a different gas that does not affect the ozone layer and for me as our room is on the west side of the building we need to use our airconditioner from about 2 pm til 10 pm as otherwise our rooom is very hot even with the window open. I agree the old air conditioners did affect the ozone layer. [em]thumbup[/em

Air conditioning is not the problem. The greed of mankind is. Did you know that mere water or air could be used as a refrigerant??? Further, mankind has the technology to make all electricity green and stop using fossil fuels. The real question should be why do the people of the Earth allow the pollution of our environment??? You would not believe the savings in medical costs we would all have when fewer people got sick due to pollution. It is up to each of us to fight for a clean world.

I don't use air-con. But I think it's definitely a necessity in offices, shopping malls, etc.

I agree with huilichan8 that we can't avoid using air-conditioner in office, shopping malls, etc. However, we may try different alternatives to improve the air in our house. One of it would be the air ventilation system to channel the outdoor air coming indoors. Opening windows and doors, operating window or attic fans, when the weather permits increases outdoor ventilation rate.

How about the a.c. in cars and shops? I don't know if most people using it in their houses (all over the world). Personally I don't believe it. It makes me sick too and I heard it from more people that airco makes them sick.
About the destruction of the ozone layer.. the one who found out it was destructed also found out it's healing itself (I wonder how come) also I believe there are many more things destructing the ozone layer, not only the AC is doing so. Are people still able to live without AC, fridge, car, deo, etc etc?
