I am using an electric bike in my daily activities, like going to work, to the market, to the malls, just to go around the city. Although it runs only between 30 to 50 km./hr. I found it very efficient, effective and not so costly. It was not even registered and can go around the city any time. Do you have one and do you like it. One more thing, it every one will be using electric bike there will be no pollution and there will be less usage of oil.

I recently bought an electric bike and I love it! I am one for whom cycling is difficult so the advantage of not having to pedal is a big one for me. The distance that I can go on one charge is quoted as 15 miles (24km) and the speed is supposed to be limited to 15 mph (24 kph) but I find that I can actually travel further than this (probably about 20 miles or a little more) and my top speed is actually over 20 mph.
My bike is a Sakura S270, which is built by a Chinese battery company and is built very much like a proper scooter, although, to comply with the law it must have pedals. I have posted a picture of it below.
Although I don't need insurance or tax and I do not have to wear a helmet, I do prefer to wear a cycle helmet (which you can see on the seat of the bike). The cost of a full charge (which will take me for more than 20 miles) is less than £1.00 (less than about $1.50). It simply plugs into the ordinary household electricity and recharges in a few hours.
I am lucky to live in an area which is relatively flat and has some very good cycle paths in the country around. I also live only about four miles from the city so it is easy and convenient to go into town and also to experience the wind in my face and some great countryside whenever I want.

Its nice to hear that. I usually wear my helmet also to be safe. But the problem with me is that we are in the city so pollution is too much. Just wear my nose protector and presto. It can consume with less cost in electricity and it can run up to 80 miles and can run between 30-50km/hr. It is also China made. Hope most people can use electric bikes. I cannot enlarge your photo but more or less I can see what it look like. Happy electric motoring.

I still don't get such a concept of electric bike, perhaps I'm not that geek as to know the last fashion trends, I would like someone to tell me what an electric bike is ! this is the first time I hear of something like that ! In the old days bikes were both, a way to transport yourself and a way to do great exercise.

Thanks for the response. Of course the ordinary bike is used also to transport a person to another area and also a good form of exercise as you will be using your feet to move it on. It is just like any other bike, but instead of doing it manually there is this battery attached which you will be charged to any electric outlet and presto you can move in the bike. In simple language it is like an ordinary cellphone which you have to charge to be used.

I have been thinking about getting one. It would be a great way to get around and faster, then waiting for a bus. I have been seeing more electric bikes in my area lately.

I have a folding ebike, which is very useful for getting around, both where I live, and if I travel somewhere by car I can bring it along and use it at my destination..I don't like taking it out in poor weather conditions,though..There's a lot of traffic on the roads near where I live, and I don't like the idea of trucks soaking me with spray as they go past when it's raining!

Thanks for the response. Yes, it is the rain that makes it not possible to use. But as a user, it really is so cool, cheap and easy to maintain. Happy electric biking.

I went to a veggie and vegan event and they had many information stands. One of the stands had fold up bikes and electric bikes. I am happy to hear that you find your electric bike so useful and not too expensive to run.
In my younger days I cycled daily on my push bike. I got very fit that way and kept ever so healthy. Now I have a 4 year old son in a wheelchair and a 2 year old daughter I wouldn't be able to get much use from an electric bike.

Thanks for the response, it really is very helpful to me and very convenient. Sorry to hear about your son on a wheelchair, but the make of my bike can be used to ride on your son on a wheelchair, what I have is a three wheel electric bike with the driver seat and a backsit which can comfortably sit another person.

It is good. Electric bike,or car, or train-decreases air pollution; and we can save non renewable source of energy to some extent.

Hi bagumbayan!
Someone recommended me before to use an electric bike when I just started going to school again. But I did not know where to get one so I ended up getting a scooter (which I do not use to go to school yet ). But I have seen a few people using this kind of bike. It's a little slow but I don't see any smoke coming from it so I guess it's really environment-friendly.
And you didn't have to register it? I guess that's because you don't need a license plate for it? That's really convenient!

Thanks for the reply. Yes, no need to register, no need for a plate as it is consider a bike. It is very convenient and cheap though the weather is its only problem. And another thing when you are living in a 3rd floor condo you need to have a long wire extension for charging in case you cannot make use of the grounds electric power. But I will have it register also just for ownership though I have my receipt to support it.

I have tried riding an electric car and was impress by the efficiency of its no disgusting engine sound. I notice that it runs like a golf cart. It must be the same thing with your electric bike. I may have come across on that while watching a morning show/ news television sometime last year. It can help us fight pollution but I doubt it if they will keep it unregistered for another time period if more people use them for obvious reasons of course. The traffic enforcers need to take note of the vehicles running in the major highways.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, maybe they have the same source. There is really a need for them to be registered later, if most will be using electric bikes. There was no chassis no like in any car so nothing to register. Although they also have some number in it maybe production or control number which can be used for tracking purposes. In the next years to come I think electric bikes and electric cars will be the in thing on the road.

I like the fact that they do not smell like some older scooters do that run on gas and actually they seem to go fast in heavy traffic given the fact that they can also go places cars can not as well as the road. Weather might be the only draw back but even if they are used part of the year they look to be a lot of fun.
