They sure aren't! Alot of today's cartoons are disgusting, weird and stupid! Not all of them but most of them! My older brother and his wife are so disgusted with the Cartoon Network Cartoons they blocked that channel so their daughter can't watch it! I grew up watching The Looney Tunes, the Flintstones, the Jetsons,Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo. They still have Scooby Doo but it is not the same! They made Fred into an idiot! Then they hooked up Velma and Shaggy which is not right! Now we see cartoons like "The grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy","Ed,Edd and Eddy",the Pokeman series, other Asian cartoons and even a new Thunder Cats (which should of never been made)! I wish they would make cartoons like they used to! I don't know what today's kids see in todays cartoons!

a lot of them are braindead.nickleodeon's even worse with the "teen" live action series.older cartoons,i can watch all day.the new ones i have limited tolerance for and end up changing the channel after a while. bakugan is really annoying.does the guy really got to call out bakugan this that and the other thing every time he does something?

oh,i prefer older anime.like starblazers, queen millenia, dirty pair, even cowboy bebop. 'new' anime is kind of misleading, because some of those shows took ten years to even get to america, and then heavily edited.i will admit to buying a yamato ship toy,but..yea,i had to on that.

All those cartoons like Bakugan are terrible! I don't watch those! I have no ideas where they get ideas for todays cartoons! I really don't like watching the new Scooby Doo's! They have added to the Scooby Friends personalities! Most of it is stupid! Today's cartoons are not what they used to be!

scarlet_woman, I had a bit of Cody in the House (a live action Disney show) inflicted on me recently, it was truely awful. OK, I'm not the target audience but I'm not the target audience for Kim Possible, The Emperor's New School or Phineas and Ferb either but I really like those. Never watched Bukugan, I think this is basically an advert for a game. Try watching some anime that isn't a glorified toy advert!

Its not that they are horrible, it is just that its different from what your used too. The thing is, try watching them now and comparing them to what you remember, you will probably not like it at all, I know that it happened to me at least, it seems so badly made compared to what I remember from them. Generations change, and what you like the new kids may dislike and so on.

Hi Jokerzhunter, I grew up in the 60's, early 70's. I never really watched a lot of cartoons as a kid. I remember the Flinstones used to be on one night a week and we did watch that. Deputy dog came on on Saturday nights and we all watched that but I can't say I really got into it much. We just weren't allowed much TV and so I watched whatever was on when it was allowed. I do remember the Sat. Morning cartoons which we got to watch sometimes if it rained or in extreme cold weather. I did like Bugs Bunny and Road Runner, Little Audrey. I got old videos of those cartoons when my girls were younger and they did enjoy them. I still think Bugs Bunny is pretty cool.

Sid, I grew up like you did! We watched the Flintstones once a week on a week night! I also rmemeber saturday mornings watching Looney Toons! Like Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd! I love when Bugs talked his way out of jams with Elmer and Daffy Duck! I loved watching the Coyote always trying to catch the Roadrunner! It never happened because his attempts always failed! LOL!

You might not like the cartoons these days because they aren't what you used to watch. The focus of cartoons nowadays might have shifted and just so happens that they do not suit your taste. Although I do agree some cartoons are really just so odd. Shows like "Catdog" where a cat and a dog share the same body? Seriously? But they do come up with interesting shows similar to Tom and Jerry. I'm referring to shows like "Oggy and the Cockroaches" where 3 cockroaches are staying in a house with two cats and get on their nerves.

The new ones are too violent and some of them use vulgar language. They are not funny or enjoyable at all.

Not all cartoons these days are meant for little kids to watch. Some target the teens and young adults. Unfortunately English cartoons don't come with ratings. I know Japanese animations (aka anime) and comics all come with ratings so as a parent you would know which one to allow your kids to watch/read. I don't think I've seen an English cartoon meant for kids that use vulgar language. Did you have a specific one in mind?

Have you seen "Cow and Chicken"? There was an episode which was quite suggestive, which only adults would recognize the dirty joke. Kids wouldn't understand but it still contains suggestive adult material.

I agree. They are very dumb abd some of them are even violent and use vulgar language. I do not find them funny at all and I do not watch the newer ones.

I would say that cartoons are a lot less violent than they used to be. things like Tom and Jerry were all about the violence.

but there are those who are still like it, eg mandy and billy. I cant remember the correct name. I find the moral is not there in the newer cartoons.

stphcjh, it's not fair to say that modern cartoons are dumb. There are less talking animals and less people getting run over by steam rollers and popping back into shape again. Cartoons tend to be comedy, fantasy or science fiction (because otherwise you'd just do it with live action) so they tend to be rather "out there". However, now if there's a talking animal or somebody who's indestructible, it's usually stated that this is abnormal and there's some reason for it. Modern cartoons tend to have more complicated plots than old ones, sometimes a continuous story line going through the entire series. Some of them take science or folk lore (as well as religion and occultism) fairly seriously. Spider-man, for example, knows his science! weasel81, you're thinking of two shows: Grim and Evil and The Grim Adventures of Bill & Mandy. They both involve two children who somehow get some control over the grim reaper. It's very silly and funny but not for smaller children. You want a message in your cartoons? Well there's several versions of The X Men (about prejudice), Witch Hunter Robin (about somebody doing a morally questionable job), Naruto (determination and friendship), Gundam Seed (anti-war) and probably many more. What sort of moral does Tom and Jerry have - cats chase mice!

Well, I guess some cartoons now are made for the adult viewers, but considering they are in cartoon network, I guess it would be the parents' choice and obligation to decide whether to allow their children to watch the shows or not. I would agree though that I liked the cartoons better before than those that are being shown now, but when I think of it more, I realized that maybe I liked it because at that time at my age it was entertaining and it got to my head as that and what I see now is no longer as entertaining so I get that conclusion that it isn't as good as the one I watched in my time. It's probably that, right?

Most of todays cartoons are not entertaining to me! The ones I watched growing up were! With todays kids the cartoons they watch are entertianing! I guess I would have to be a kid to understand that! Also I hope all parents are censoring their kids viewing! Kids need that!

Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated - This is the new logo for Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated Series on cartoon network
Cartoon Network has another Scooby doo Series. It is called "Scooby Doo! Mystery Incoporated". That is where, for a time, Velma nad Shaggy hooked up. Yes Fred and Dahney have finaly hooked up! It is not as good as the orginal "Scooby Doo where are you!" It is a better cartoon them some of the others I see on CArtoon Network! LOL!

I love cartoons and think cartoons go through phases with more or less violence and some are funnier then others. I was always a fan of Loony toons and never thought the violence was excessive because they were cartoons no one would assume that it was real, but I started seeing them differently after I read a news article (I am a little foggy about the details it was a few years back) in which a 3 or 4 year old had seriously hurt his sister with a hammer replaying the hammer hitting the hand gag. Ren and Stimpy, they were often skinned alive. Dragon ball had people blown up killed incinerated in most shows. The fact that children, even young children, watch Simpsons even though it is not exactly set up for them shows that most people associate cartoons to children, be they or not compatible for specific age groups. The fact that I never really got Spongebob also made it less appealing unlike Rugrats which was being rerun a while back and it still was funny. I think cartoons reflect the mood of the generations and right now it reflects the video game culture. Oh well.

I think you brought up a good point. Cartoons are different for every generation. I knew back, like in the 1970's or early 1980's someone said I forgot who, siad cartoons were to violent and something to to be done about it. I know must kids know it is not for real but in a few cases some kids thought it was ok to do in real life. I grew up with the Looney tunes, the Flintstones and the Jetsons. I do like watching Phinas and Ferb, Spongebob Squarepants, the Scooby doo movies, the classic Scooby doo series and Jonny Test. As long as there are cartoons,I will be watching some I like! That includes the adult ones South Park,The Simpsons,American Dad,Family Guy,the Cleveland Show and Bob'b Burgers!

I quite like weird cartoons. way back when, I used to love Ren and Stimpy. which certainly falls under the categories of disgusting and wierd, and that's been around for quite a long time. cartoons are a lot less violent now, and have a lot less casual racism and stereotyping, so I suppose they need more ways to make an impact, seeing as violence and racism aren't really considered to be appropriate childrens entertainment anymore. and I always thought Fred was an idiot.

I never seen "Ren and Stimpy". I don't get into strange cartoons. I love the old ones better! I knew the violnece was part of the cartoon and it wasn't real! Now cartoons are less violent but not what they used to be! I did grow up with the "Flintstones" but I never thought Fred was an idiot! Not even know! Oh well everyone is different!

blue65packer, I always thought Fred Flintstone was an idiot. I think Galena means Fred in Scooby-Doo, who's also an idiot and always was. That's why the dog and the nerd solve all the cases, with help from the hippy while Fred and Daphne - well we have our suspicions about what they're doing. You keep saying you like old cartoons better. Have you seen Ugly Americans, it's hysterical! Have you seen Gundam Seed, not funny but very good? What about Hellsing Ultimate - there's a great scene where the leader of the Nazi vampires gives an insane speech about how he loves war? What about Tatakay Shisho - The Book of Bantora, beautiful animation and a truely weird scenario? Occult Academy for great animation and a nice mixture of comedy and well thought out plot (the end of the first episode is one of the funniest moments I've seen in a cartoon)? Can you explain why you think the older cartoons are better or are you just neophobic?

helps if i read it all, i found the name of one newer cartoon i dont like and that's billy and mandy. I was stuck watching baby shows just before, my son enjoys them still. I want him to watch the cartoons more for his age as much as i dont like them. Ben 10 is good to watch, thou my son does love watching the transformers and voltron from the 80's. I'd even rather him watch the simpsons, as that does have some good things there on family, religion etc. much as there is rubish in it.

Well it looks like stupid to you when you grow up. I still remember when I was a child I used to watch tom and jerry and it makes me amaze. But when I got older those cartoons is boring and stupid to look. Well, I guess that what means when getting older. You will realize and analyze things that must be done and not be done.

I don't look at it that way. I do analze the new artoons and old cartoons they updated, like with "Scooby Doo". They make me feel old and sometimes I hate getting older! Things used to be so simple but now things have gottan complicated! Just like the cartoons!

hi:) I love to watch cartoons with my niece on cartoon network, the Winnie the poo and the care bears, because they are all wholesome and informative, but I also noticed that so many cartoons on there that are so violent, it's not really for children, and I also wonder why cartoon network allowed that, because they knew all along that mostly their viewer is children.really not good.

Yes I have seen "Winnie the Pooh". I grew up watching Pooh Bear and his friends! Those were the original "Winnie the Pooh" cartoons! I do like Spongebob and my fairly godparents and Phinas and ferb. I just wonder if some parents know what kind of cartoons their kids are really watching! I think they would be surprised!

Old days cartoons were violent as they sure are today. There are good cartoon like the Scooby Doo(old one), which I like. The days cartoon are similiar to the video games, where they blow each other up and then they in a sudden appears whole and alive. I do not like it. It's do real. I think it can be a thin line between real and unreal for children to know what is truth. The subconscious make pictures. I believe the violent in video games as well as in cartoons effects the mind in children and adults. The virtual world can be put into the real world. Like a kid shot a man in a game and he gets alive again then do it for real thinking he is still alive. I highly dislike the violence in cartoons and video games!
• United States
14 Sep 11
When I grew up seeing that in cartoons I knew it was not real and it would not be done in real life! I mean the violence! Some of todays cartoons are violent but it depends on the artoon. Yes I know some cartoons are based on video games. I don't get into those cartoons and never will. Cartoon Network does show, sometimes, the orginal Scooby Doo cartoons. I like to watch cartoons on tv when I am home. I don't like watching other stuff. Yes video games can be extremely violent and kids should not be playing them in the first place! I know some adults who have played violent games but can't anymore because they seem so real. I wish they would not make those games!

I remember the good old days when I would sit in bed and watch my favorite cartoons all day. I don't watch it as much anymore as I'm busy but when I have the time I would. I recently saw the new Scooby Doo and it looks really odd to me. The characters are just not the same. Very different to the old one. I like the old one much better. The cartoons then and now are no different, it's just the old ones have a better story. Cartoons now touch on quite mature content and kids watch this.
• United States
14 Sep 11
The New Scooby Doo's sure are not the same! They are ok but the can't compare to the original! Cartoons sure aren't what they used to be! Yes some have to much mature content and I wonder if some parents even releaze what their kids are watching! Any way that is another discussion all its own! I like the old cartoons better!
