I am visiting college of computer science.
I was wondering.. Do you have any strategy how to motivate yourself to finish it? Is there no problem because you want to party but you know that you want to finish it too? Is there enough time to do both of it? If you are not such good at decent subject, what do you do to learn it and pass the "exam"?

I understand that you are young, and you want to have fun at the same time. But you have think about your future, and see around you, the economy wasn't that desirable as you think. unemployment in such a high rate. That might be enough motivation for you to consider, because you already knew the fact of all these. I hope that you can finish college and be competitive.

kingparker: you are right in telling that in the unemployment scenario prevalent in many countries unless one equips with full knowledge he may not be able to get a job or start a business with success. Yes. keeping that in mind one should motivate himself and study very well.

I can't understand you. I love to study. I wish to be able to go in a university to be part of one college, to know more things. Unfortunatelly I couldn't go there. If you are now on the college try to feel how important is knowledge. And if you have the oportunity to have teachers who teach you try to use all free time to use them to study, to acumulate knowledge. For me the best party is to study, to know more things. For example I was a few days ago in a party, with a lot of people there. I felt strange. When I discover something new, when I learn something new or I have some new skills I feel really happy, better then in the parties. So, try to feel good when you study somehow. Try to make fun your study mood. In time you'll understand me. I think is up to us to choose better goods which can make us to feel good. ...

In the modern times we have a lots of options to get some mark and get pass the exams. These all are in common and general. But on being a good student and having certain clear cut vision and goal in mind, study and write exam and pass it. This is the best and suitable way of learning. Just passing or clear the exam should not be our moto. We have certain path in our life to succeed our rest of life and exams and studies are the step towards it and we should know it also.
These days, such kind of motivation is no where provided and that is one of the main reason why current generation students doesn't have a clear and precise vision on their future and studies.
Do whatever in college, but our ultimate aim should be study. Whenever we are on the mood to study, every thing should forget. It is easy to tell every one but hard to observe.
Today I am in a good position only because I had a clear desire and I tried hard to achieve it. There won't be much people to motivate is. Like our college mate or school mate, parents or friends - who ever it may by. Because all re in a hurry and busy with their own life. We should realise who we are and realise who we are. Study well and try some extra efforts and make sure and take an oath that I will continue study and won't cheat yourself. This much is good enough to score a good mark and cover the exams. Today we have everything ready for our references and study materials are good enough anywhere. Only thing we should have a dedicated mind and will and wish.
Hope you must have understand what I mean and please excuse me if I have overtake our privilege.
Best regards & good luck.
Thank-s

Hi zassx, it's really dangerous to stay an aimless status in college. The college has a far-reaching significance to our future life. You have to make a detailed plan. As to motivation, at first, I talk about mine. I'm not well off neither my parents, I have seen too much scenes about my parents laboriously work, that's not a light-hearted work and you can't imagine. So my motivation is to let my parents live comfortably. If you are one that needn't care for money, then just follow your interest. set it as your goal and make achievement in the area. Above all, don't make youself lost.

I am currently in college too. My main way to stay motivated is to do balance work and play. I devote some time to work but I relax and forget about thinking to much by doing things that I enjoy like fishing, hanging out with friends, and even working out. I am earning a 3.5 gpa and I still get to play. The best way I learn anything is by search any chapter for bold headings and definitions. Knowing every word in a chapter always aggravated me. So I just learn all headings and bold words and what they mean and that tends to help a lot more. The rest of the reading will only confuse readers.

Well if you are not good at a certain subject then I suggest studying more on that subject. I also suggest possibly re-reading the chapters over again if you have to. Also make sure you pay attention to any lectures or when the teacher is talking.
You should think about the money you will earn once you are finished with college. You should also think about how you will enjoy your career or job. Do you have a job now? or no money? finishing college will most likely change that. Finishing college will probably earn you more money and most likely you will enjoy your job even more than you do now.
I think the thing that i am motivated the most about right now is to finish college. I will have my associates in about a year. I plan on furthering my education even further than an associates.
I wish you good luck in your studies and finishing college.

Hello Zassx1337, actually I needed all motivations that I had to finished my college. I was a typical lazy student who will go to school for monetary allowance. My parents decided for me to took up the course but I really hate that course and I almost stop my studying when I was in college because it is very difficult for me. I never thought that I will graduate from that course with good grades and no failing marks. It is because of my parents whom I saw how they wanted me to graduate and have a bachelor's degree and have a good life ahead. I saw there sacrifices and they even borrowed from a lending company just to be able to finish my study. Because of that, I put my dedication to finish my study and to see my parents be proud of me. I never quit, and now I graduated from college and had a decent work.

I always managed to pass exams successfully even tho' I always studied at the last minute. So, I actually didn't need to motivate myself to finish college. During my uni days, I had too much on my plate to be concerned about that. I had to take up a part-time job to support myself; I had to help my mom earn some extra money through doing home-based jobs; I had to take care of my mom because of her ill health; I had to do all the household chores; and during one of those yrs in uni, on top of having to do all these, I had to take care of my father because he suddenly fell ill. So, I had no time to think of how to motivate myself to finish college.
If you do not have to support yourself thru' college, then I think you should have no problem juggling between your studies and party time. If you have problem motivating yourself, then maybe you could try to take up a part-time job? With a part-time job, you would have less time to study and it might indirectly force you to become motivated. Or you could try to envision what your future will look like if you have a college degree. Alternatively, you may want to ask your parents to give you a reward (ie. if they can afford to) every time you pass an exam or to give you a reward for every year that you pass.
If I am not good in a particular subject, I will probably spend a bit more time on it. Alternatively, I might get together a few friends to form a study group for this particular subject. In your case, if money is not an issue, you might want to engage a private tutor.

I'm currently in college and what I do to motivate myself to try and finish it I think about the result which is getting my degree. I try to not associate with people who are not in school that go to parties clubs/bars. I only have "fun" when I'm on vacation or when there is some type of holiday. My school comes first. I cannot do both at the same time, I will not be focused. If you're not good in a certain subject just go over your notes or ask classmates or the teacher don't be afraid to ask for help which is what I would do.

The college is one of the best moments in our lives, because you have age to do all things and, normally, less responsabilities. So we have to be careful to didn't party all time and forget to graduate. You can have time to do both, it is just necessary to program yourself and understand that exist time to party and time to study.
The only motivation that I needed to graduate was think about my family and all that they do to give me the opportunity to go to a college. They deserved that I gave my best!

zassx: You are from Slovania. You are studying in college. Motivating yourself - the key is there in you. Understand the advantages in completing studies with good marks. You can enjoy life also partly by eating, drinking--but now your focus should be completing education.
Decide that what you have on hand - studies is more important than enjoying life.
