I'm going to be on a field work again tomorrow and we'll be going to one of our project sites which require us to travel by boat.
I like riding a boat especially in the morning because of the cold wind in the sea and riding a boat feels like you're in a hammock. Of course, the case would be different if there are big waves in the sea!
I have experienced riding a boat during a typhoon and it was night during that time. It was dark in the sea and the rain was pouring hard. Fortunately for us, the boatman knows his way in the sea and was able to take us to the shore. I have also experienced riding a boat in the afternoon, it was hot and the waves are terribly big! I vomited three times until my stomach went empty.
Still, I like riding a boat and looking at the deep blue sea.

Boats are not my favorite means of transportation. I have been on medium express boats to Catalina island, a normal size boat to the same place, a sail boat on a lagoon, a glass bottom boat, and a speed boat. I liked the speed boat best, and the glass bottom boat second best, since it was a short ride and there was something to see. In the speed boat, there was lots of action. The sailboat was the worst, because as a passenger, there really was nothing to do and not much to see. I think boats are, for the most part, boring. Occasionally you might see something when you are looking back or ahead to the shore, but very often there is just ocean all around you. Perhaps I just haven't been on the right boats.
Oh! There are two I had forgotten about. A small private boat when we were asked to chaperone a graduation party on a boat and a harbor sight-seeing cruise. The graduation party was an all night event, so I was trying unsuccessfully to sleep down below a good part of the night. That's all I remember about that. The harbor cruise was fun because it was close to shore and it was a good way to see the sights of San Diego in a way you couldn't on land.

Yeah, a long boat ride can really be so boring when you cannot see anything except the ocean. But during those times when you cannot see anything, even if I'm just riding a boat or a ship, I still like the feeling, it's easier to sleep when being rocked.
That glass bottom boat sounded like fun! I don't think we have that here. It would be awesome to see what's down there while the boat is running.

That sounds really nice! Good for those who don't want to get wet but wants to take a look of the underwater.

What I like about riding a boat is when you get to the middle where you can only see the bodies of land far away, it feels so relaxing. I can sleep at that place all day and don't worry about anything at all except maybe running out of food.

Won't you get scared that you might get washed off somewhere by the waves?

Nope. I'll use the anchor to keep me still. I won't sail if it's storming if that's what you're trying to say. It won't be safe.

I have never been much for boating in terms of row boating of canoeing (paddle boating is pretty fun though but I have only done it once in my life).
I did go on a boat tour when I was in Wilmington. It was on a river boat called the Henrietta III that goes up and down the Cape Fear River. I really enjoyed it and hope to be able to do it again when I go back, and maybe even take it a step further and go on a proper cruise one of these days. A ride on a New Orleans river boat is also a must on my bucket list as New Orleans was my family's hometown for five generations (me being the sixth - it was my birthplace).
I think the thing I would like the most about travel by boat is the fact that there seems to be so much to do and the activity level is so much more than when you go on a road trip and are stuck in the car for hours. I am the type of person who has to move their body a lot and don't care how long it takes to reach my destination as long as I can remain in motion! I think I would also feel safer on a cruise than I would in an airplane. I can already tell you that I loved the feeling of being on the deck of the Henrietta as we ventured up the river. There is something about rivers that just intrigue me... their impermanence, their roles in civilization, their shifts from forceful to gentle, and of course, the Garth Brooks song (my favorite song of all time). All of that goes through my head in a very profound way when I am literally *on* the river.

That sounds really great. By the way you tell it, I already feel envious. I have never been on a boat tour because all the times I rode a boat is for work or just transportation. I wish I can go on a ship cruise in the future.
If I have the leisure of time, I would also prefer a long boat travel than a short airplane trip. I like going around a boat, watching the sea and feeling the wind.

I like riding a boat too. I like it calm, but i like the rough seas as well. It's like being on a roller coaster ride.. haha. Exciting yet really dangerous.. haha I've never been on a sampan before, but i've canoed on rough waters. I like the feeling since i like the sea. Maybe i like rough challenges in life, that's why i dun like calm waters.. lol =D I prefer troubled waters.. lol

What I like about riding a boat is when you see the waters glistening and it is color green and very clear. I went to Puerto Galera before and I enjoyed riding in a boat which has around 50 person in capacity. It wasn't scary at all since it is big boat but the scariest one is when we visited Marinduque. We rode on a boat that is good for 3 people only. The width of the boat is less than a meter. We are going on an island hoping and the scary part is the sea color is already deep blue. The boat man says because we are on the deepest part where ship sails. And then we remembered we don't have any life jackets on. Haha

That must have been exciting! I love adventure! I'm sure it must be really scary but it was exciting, too right?? I've been in small boats like that and even in a small boat while the waves are big, but as long as you don't let fear eat you, you will enjoy the experience.

Beauty and strength, yes, that's it, Jill. The sea has that both.

I live in inland, far from the sea. But I have some experiences riding a boat in a river. The first time I took a boat travel was when I was about six or seven years old. I traveled on the boat for two nights and days before I got to the destination, where my aunt lives. I vomited a few times on the boat and did not like it. Another time when I took a long boat travel was a few years after my getting married with my son. It was a few hours trip on the river, but this time I was much better. I did not vomit as I did as a child, but still did not feel that good. I am not so sure if I will have a chance to have a ship travel on the sea as I have never had such a chance. It might be exciting, I guess, and I wish I would have a good feeling by then if I were to have such a chance. Take care and enjoy your field work tomorrow, secretbear.

Your experience reminded me of the times that I used to vomit while riding a bus when I was still little. And when I grew up, I did not vomit anymore while riding a bus. I guess our experience is similar.

I like riding in a sailboat, it feels like you're floating, flying, like maybe what heaven would feel like.

That's an interesting comparison. Now I'm wondering how it would feel to ride a parachute or something.

I do love boat riding but of course I don't like to do that during stormy days. It should be on calm weather and early morning so that the sun can't hurt my skin. I love the cool breeze in the sea just like you do. It gives a very refreshing feeling and also I love to look at the surrounding forest from the boat. The views of the mountainous and lush vegetation and trees are also spectacular. I also love the in-dept feel of the sea waves and the small birds that fly around the water too.

Me, too. I like the scenic view of the mangroves and mountains. It's also fun to see flying fishes.

I like to go boating when we're on vacation. It's a reward to look at the corrals and swim in it after months of working and not seeing the sea. I also like riding a boat, the big ones during vacations but time doesn't permit it since travel by boat already takes almost half of the entire vacation days. Boating is good if the weather is good and the sea is calm by it sucks when there are big waves and the heat is horrible or if the weather is not good.

Yeah, that's the only disadvantage of it. It takes a long time to reach a destination when the travel is by sea. I experienced a 12-hour travel by ship when I was a college student but I did not get bored and just slept throughout the trip.

The wind brushing against our face is so calming. It's like you forget all your problems when you take a boat and the weather is very good and the sea is very calm. On the contrary when the weather is rough and the sea is going crazy I usually get all freaked out and I start looking for the life jacket.

I love being in a boat, and feeling the gentle rocking, because that is the only time that I can feel totally relaxed. It is a wonderful experience to sit outside on a warm, sunny day, with a tropical drink in my hand and listen to live music.

Riding a boat is somehow liberating second in line to riding airplane of course. Yet the feel of the serene sea with mellow waves lull me to sleep. They say that riding a boat involves a feeling of uncertainty. For you run along the course of the sea and the waves can be your friend or your foe.

I think it's the same with traveling by air, too. You can't be sure of the weather and anytime it might change and can cause a crash landing.

I normally don't get seasick. But during that boat ride, the circumstances were different. The boat was a little small, the waves are so big so the boat goes up and down, it was in the afternoon so the temperature was high. I did feel comfortable when I went to the open air although I still felt dizzy. I'm okay with riding a small boat as long as it is open and I can feel the air all over me. The mistake I did there was I stayed inside the boat where it was a little closed because of the wood wallings and the closed windows.

I know how to swim but I'm not very good at it. When I ride a boat I don't think of falling because that would spoil the fun. Sharks will only bite if they can smell blood on you, like if you have a bleeding wound or something.

Yeah I also love riding a boat but of course during good weather. I've also experienced being tossed by waves before and it was frightful. What I really like about riding a boat is that the views and scenes you can see are really wonderful and different unlike traveling by land. It actually feels relaxing to ride in a peaceful and calm sea.

I agree! A boat is really relaxing when the sea is calm and not throwing tantrums. We don't really ride a boat when there's a typhoon or when there's a typhoon coming but in some circumstances in our work, we cannot avoid to ride a boat.
