Usually I make salads only on occasions like Christmas and New Year. They cost a lot in their ingredients specially those with mayonnaise and plenty of other ingredients, that’s why I would make them only on occasions. But yes, we can also make inexpensive salads, like ensaladang pako or talong (eggplant. ) or vegetable salad. However, those salads with mayonnaise are the real delicious ones for me. My family loves to eat my chicken macaroni salad. However , my daughter don’t like it because it’s with mayonnaise. But she loves my buko salad.

I like salad with mayonnaise in it but as you said it's best prepared during occasions since it's expensive and it's not practical to prepare it on a daily basis not unless you're rich and can afford those mayonnaise that already costs more than a hundred, plus the creams, the kaong and what ever that is needed to make it more delicious. I think five hundred pesos is not enough if you prepare a salad with one kilo of macaroni.

I recall putting in some kaong in a fruit salad and later I realized that it's softer but it has that peculiar smell, I think it's already spoiled to think that we bought it from landmark. I bought it because it cheaper than the other brands. That's why we now prefer the nata de coco instead of kaong since not only is the taste better there's no smell either.

The problem with me is that I don't make it a practice to look at expiry dates on goods and I just put my trust on the companies QA but I learned my lessons. Besides, the brand I bought could possibly be from a fly by night company

Oh nata de coco, i love that, even just as it is. My mother used to sell nata de cocos in bottles at home, when she was younger. It was soft and delicious. We would always eat it after a meal. But now, we buy those commercial ones, whenever we make buko salad. They are not as cheap and as delicious as what my mother does before.

I love salads most any time of the year. I think they can be made inexpensively, even with mayonnaise (yum) if you buy ingredients, incuding the mayo, on sale and use leftovers in your salads. I almost never met a salad I didn't love. And, yes, mayo makes almost any salad taste better. Caesar salad doesn't need mayo, just the "caesar" oil, vinegar, mustard dressing, though it does contain parmesan cheese and a coddled egg yolk. There are many vinaigrette dressings that also don't need mayo. Oil and lemon or other citrus dressings work. I like both creamy bleu cheese and bleu cheese vinaigrette dressings and I make all my dressings from scratch, also a moneysaver. Please tell me what a buko salad and macaroni soup are!

Buko salad, has shreds of the meat of fresh young coconut as main ingredient. THen we put other chopped fruits like apples , grapes or a canned fruit cocktail and put some condensed milk to sweeten, and an all purpose cream. Then chill it and after a while voila , something very delicious to eat. Macaroni soup, is soup with chicken fillets and macaroni. Actually, we can really make inexpensive salads. Whatever we have in the fridge we can make it into salad. The secret is just the dressing, to make it delicious though.

I used to love macaroni salad when I was a kid, now I am more into vegetable salads. I don't like fruit or buko salads much. I want to make vegetable salad on my own but it is expensive because of the vegetables included are expensive. But it's what I request the most when I am in a restaurant.

Actually, you can make simple but inexpensive vegetable salads. A cucumber salad for example, are just sliced cucumber, some vinegar, sugar and salt for a blending of taste. Also you can substitute cucumber with grated radish with that. They are simple yet delicious. But those macaroni , potato salads as well as buko salad are really expensive. So, usually it's prepared only occasionally.

I love those type of salads, normally I when I make salads with mayonnaise they are chicken salad, tuna salad, and my two favorites are potato and macaroni salad. YUMMY!!!, just thinking about it makes my mouth water.. But like you I don't make them that often, not because the ingredients are expensive is just, they are a bit fatning and most of the times, I try to make them on special occassions, kind of like family get togethers, B-B-Ques and holidays, so I won't feel that guilty at least then I will have the excuse it was for a special ocassion.

For me fabprecious, the primary reason for having them only occasionally is that they are expensive to make. As to whether it is fattening, oh , i can compensate that with exercise and eating only pineapple for dinner.

Actually wheng , buko salad is a bit more cheaper to make than the chicken macaroni salad, which i like the most. It could also be only buko-pandan , which is also cheaper than buko salad, fruit cocktail and other ingredients are what makes buko salad a bit costly, that's why. We are same wheng, our weakness is food specially salads. . But as long as we eat in moderation, we are okay with it.

Making a salad is a good way of eating a lot of vegetables instead of eating them one by one. If you cut and mix many vegetables and mix them with some olive oil and some lemon juice , you get a very healthy food and a tasty so you can eat a lot of it , more than you would eat them when complete. That's healthy because vegetables contain many materials in addition to the vitamins and minerals. Some of them are Antioxidants , some of them are phytochemicals that fight and prevent illnesses like cancer . Try to focus on the health issue , figure out what is the best way to make a salad with specific vegetables. It will improve your health and energy. For example : if you smash a tomato and add some olive oil , your boddy absorbs more lycopene from the tomato instead of eating the tomato in another way.

Indeed, vegetable salads are the healthiest among the salads. They are the cheapest too, with no need of other stuffs to enhance their flavor. Thanks for that information about the tomato that if we add some olive oil , the body will absorb more lycopene. I will have that in mind always.

I love salad, too! But, mostly vegetable salad. And the dressing available is endless. This one I take on a regular basis (always on a diet ) I also like chicken salad and potato salad but don't have them very often. The "sweet" salads are the ones I have only on special occasions or not so often.

Yes, my friend we both love chicken macaroni and potato salad. But they are costly to make so i only prepare them on Christmas and New Year. But whenever i crave for it, i buy at the food court of a mall, because they sell portions. At least, i get to eat them without having to spend so much.

I love love salads too. My daughters love my fruit salad so much that they will request for it. I agree it is expensive especially the mayonnaise. Hence, We only have fruit salad during Christmas and New Year. But I am glad that my daughters also love vegetable salads. Since I am eating the vegetable salad every dinner they would dig in to my plate and eat with me.

I used to love Chicken Makaroni Salad but now I'm not doing it by myself anymore.I'm just eating it occassionally if it's free. It's just one of those unhealthiest food, with it's mayonnaise and sweets.Buko salad is a better choice.I'm fun of healthy salad like cucummber, carrots, apple with yoghurt and vegetable salads with just spritz of lemon and olive oil. It's less expensive too and really good for our body.

Salads with mayonnaise like the chicken macaroni are costly to make though. But we can eat them also cheaply, on those food carts at the mall.

Mmm...I've already eaten dinner, but I'm definitely getting hungry again. Fruit salads mixed with some spinach are my favorites. There isn't much of a need for any dressing because the fruit adds so much extra flavor.

That's right. Fruit salads don't need dressing anymore. The different taste they have will just blend in. And they are not fattening because they're fruits.

I like to make pasta salads, as well as just basic ceasar or garden salads. Usually I make a big potato salad for Christmas and Thanksgiving, and then maybe once or twice a year for a BBQ side dish. It is getting really expensive to make them now days, though. And it seems like the produce for even just a good garden salad keeps going up.

They really aren't if you make them from scratch with dried pasta, veggies, and some sort of dressing like either italian style, ranch, etc. You can add a can of diced tomatoes to an italian version to dress it up a bit more.

Pasta salads could really be a bit expensive than those typical everyday vegetable salad. But whatever is the stuff we put into our salad, they are still truly delicious. It's the dressing that actually makes it delicious, but of course those stuffs also.
