New week, New Ideas, New discussion because after bathing eating is good habit before bathing eating is not good habit...so last week spend the full time only on bathroom discussion and this full week will spend only on kitchen.. I have seen the people when came in our house for eating on any occassion like Ganpati.. then people told us please prepare a chapati without butter...Dr. told no use butter then we prepared the chapati for those without butter..Do you also think this more butter is not good for health... But in our house everybody likes Ghee (the pure Cow Ghee)do you like this or you eat the chapati without butter or with oil...some people puts the oil on the chapati that is called Paratha... Share your good habits with ...Fantabulus....

The chapati is better for the health eat it with meat like chicken or fish. Is good to eat it too with curry and green salad. Chapati have wheat flour which a good source of iron and calciumand and I hink is a healthy habit eat it everyday and is better than rice.

I don't know what Chapti is my friend. But yes too much of anything can be harmful to our health. Way too much butter is not good for cholesterol and or calorie intakes. I do enjoy some butter but am a very healthy eater so I do try to balance and not intake too much of it. But there are certain foods that I cannot eat if butter is not on it. I do try and substitute it with margarine and or vegetable spread. Although some say they do not like the substitutes I must be odd because I prefer them over the butter. lol

Hi Fanta! Interesting discussion ! I think many from other part of the world may not understand the meaning of Chapati (a type of unleavened flat bread, which is made of fresh dough and baked on a iron plate) and 'Ghee' (clarified butter). It depend upon person to person, whether they love to put some clarified butter on their chapatis or not. I love to put some clarified butter, however, for the sake of health, at least during dinner I have stopped using butter on chapatis. I think moderate quantity of fat is essential for our body and we should not stop consuming fats altogether.

Oh you are talking about 'Ghee roti'.Since I am no more foody now and when there is no vegetable curry available to eat with chapati I put a good quantity of Ghee on chapati and spread that all over the chapati, then I add a pinch of salt and fold it and eat it with every sip of hot cup of tea.Thats amazing and easy way to eat chapati specially when you dont curry, chutney or daal etc of your likes in kitchen. So far as doctors advice ..they say not to consume fat in great quantity in general. But it varies person to person it depends what kind of daily life you living how much physical work you do in a day.Normally doctors say this for the people who work in offices got a sitting job.Labor class that works physical hard work can include decent amount of fat in their daily food.fatty form of food releases great energy in body so basic principal is that the energy that you consume must be burnt by your body.Energy that you get from your food must be utilized by your body.Thats the basic rule.So if you can burn your energy by other ways like doing exercises, that 'ghee roti' or 'paratha, stuffed paratha' are not going to harm your health. -Today is 'That pure ghee'available for labor class or even for so called middle class of india? that is another debate though

Hi Blueguy.. the hot roti with ghee and salt on it for tea is a perfect combination. Recently my friend suggested this and is really tasty. My children like to add sugar instead of salt and they don't take tea.

Oh!so I am not the only.I am glad you like that too.You know what thats the easiest way to eat roties(chapaties). You finish one after one in no time with sip of tea.People who dont have time to cook vegetables, daal, curry etc its a good alternate. I never tried it with sugar but if your children like that,en its really good because for children pure ghee, sugar all are good for their growth.

yeah this is true bacause in butter ,it contain lot of fats, but when we eat chapati only ,and without butter the there is nothing like transfats, and if you take oatmeal ,believe me ,this is really good than chapati, and i think it is best thing,if you want to lose your weight, and the oatmeal also contains fibers, iron, protein etc.that so why we can say that oatmeal id really good for health, and chapati is also good for health,at the place of butter,i think we have to eat curd, and also take milk or skimmed milk,it is also beneficial for health

Hi, Usage of Ghee or Oil is indeed not a veryhealthy habit. It all depends on how much the person is using and how often the person uses. However, ghee and butter has the ability to heal stomach ulcers. Hence, it is essential in limited amounts to our health. Precisely I would say that it depends on the health condition of the individual. According to me, 'Too much of anything is harmful!' Hope this helps. Have a great day!

Hi fanta, If the chapatti is hot then I can eat the same without ghee otherwise it is difficult. I think ghee is an essential part with chapatti. But I know those who have health problems should avoid ghee and oil. Usually I make the chapatti then applying the ghee on it, my younger son is recovering from my typhoid so I am avoiding ghee for him now (as doctor suggested, avoid ghee).

Fanta, although i don't eat chapati daily but i do eat it once in a while. For me, it tastes very delicious with the Ghee. I think eating chapati without Ghee is not delicious. I always prefer to eat chapati with a cup of warm tea mixed with milk. I think for those with health problem, then they have no choice but to eat chapati without the Ghee.

They say it is better to consume butter to margarine.Similarly it is preferable to consume cow ghee to butter.I think consumed in moderation it is okay to consume ghee.I have got used to eating phulkas without oil or ghee at night. It is more out of habit and i haven't given serious consideration to eating chapati with ghee.

In our family it is a tradition to apply ghee on the roti brfore consuming it and yes it is not a very healthy habit. But a bit of unsaturated fat is essential for the body and it should be consumed in a limited quantity though. Thanks for the interesting discussion!!!

People have their own choice of applying ghee on chapati, may be they are food cautious, or wants to avoid fat. personally, I like to have ghee on chapati but my husband likes ghee with hot rice and he never like it with Chapati. For my guest, i leave it upto them if they say yes, only then i put it and in general we make puri (fried in oil) on occasions and festivals. I think Doctors say anything excess be it oil or ghee is bad. But for us the Indians, is it satisfying if you take paratha without oil or ghee, especially the parathas with fillings of potaot, cauliflower etc. good i like to eat a lot but in little quantity...and so i liked your topic too...

Eating Chapati without butter or ghee is equally healthy as Chapati provides Protein content & ghee or butter would lead to fattening, It is advisable to avoid having Chapati's with ghee or butter.
