As a teaching student, the concept of the 'effective teacher' is one that is examined often. I do not think that there is any one right answer to the question, 'what makes an effective teacher?'. Instead, I feel that the idea encompasses many traits. But I am curious to know what my fellow Mylotters think.
What makes a teacher effective?

An effective teacher makes sure their students absorb as much as possible in the shortest possible time. An effective teacher will pass on their knowledge to students in whichever way they can by catching their attention and gain their interest. Being a student before, we know in order to learn well, u have to be interested in that subject.

I think a teacher should be a good listener & strict. Ste should also have compleate knowledge of the subject she is teaching. And you'll get an effective teacher!!!

An effective teacher should know what his students' capacity is. If he doesn't know his students' learning capabilities, he'll definitely have a hard time teaching them.

I've been a teacher for 8 months, and during that time I tried my best to be what I think what an effective teacher should be.
Though different types of people need different kinds of teachers, the most effective teacher for me is one who builds a relationship with her students. The teacher who stoops down to level of her students so she can better understand what they need, and the students can better understand what she's doing.
Being a teacher isn't all about being brainy, it's about the human touch. When I was studying, teachers who just went on and on and on about the technical stuff wasn't really teaching at all. If what we need were just drones and a truck-load of information, then we should all just opt to e-learning. It's the same concept, minus the teacher right?

For me an effective teacher is one that is able to motivate her students to study well. The students learn from what she teaches easily. Not only do they learn knowledge from the teacher but also good manners and right conduct. And the teacher should have the patience to teach and is slow to anger and has an authoritative, clear voice.

I have only been a teaching assistant and never a real teacher but however short the lectures i may have conducted, i found a parameter to check the effectiveness of my teaching. That parameter is 'interest'. The moment i start teaching if students understand the concepts they will have new questions and doubts, they will feel one with the subject and really learn.
A teacher is more effective if he or she can make a student more interested in learning as then the process of learning can continue forever. It is like instead of just teaching him to read, develop a interest of reading in him. That would in turn make him read and learn more.

Patience is the key for any teacher. They are going to be working with children of all sorts, some of them a bit more advanced in learning than others. And some of them can be difficult for any number of reasons. It takes a real patient person not be discouraged when dealing with twenty five to thirty children or even teenagers. Even dealing with two or three could rather be a handful a lot of the time, so I respect a teacher that does keep their cool.
Also they need to be quick thinkers, able to think on their feet, and adapt. There is really no manual for teaching, there are going to be some insane situations to say the very least. Also, they need to understand that there are certain times where going with the flow just isn't going to work. They need to gain the respect of their students but they cannot make the students fear them. Otherwise, it will lead to a rather bad classroom environment. That is just is some of the qualities off hand for teachers.

I work as a teacher. I tried to be an effective teacher in the best that I can but I still fall short and did not become an effective teacher. I am willing to help every students reach their potential and to learn their lessons. I am effective on that aspect but I have poor skills to control and discipline children and sometimes I am impatient. An effective teacher has the personality that is dignified and is able to effectively help a pupil to succeed in life.

I believe that a teacher who is effective has to know the subject that he is teaching well. In addition, I think it's important for him to be able to engage his students if he wants to teach effectively. Furthermore, I think it's also important for him to know the areas that his students are weak in. Otherwise, he might not be able to teach effectively.

I am no professional teacher so I don't know if I am right but my idea of an effective teacher is when a teacher can reach out not only on the intellectual aspect of the student but also on the emotional and psychological. Because each student has different learning abilities and capacities and if a teacher can tap into what technique best suits him, then I think he can learn best.
