Will 44 cents a week break you?

I do not have much money, but I don't think 44 cent's a week will make that much of a difference.Based on a 4 week month, that totals $1.76 per month. The United States Post Office is in trouble the spokesman said because of "going green" many people are paying their bills online and send a lot of letter's via the internet rather then mailing them. Yes,the internet is a good tool and does make life easier in many aspects, even the postmaster general agrees. But,it will effect a lot of people if we don't save the post office. For instance, they are going to have to close some post offices down, which means that if there are people that live by there that depend on that post office because they do not have a car and they get their medical supplies delivered thru them, what are they gonna' do then? What about the people that work at that location that lose their jobs and then can't pay their rent or mortgage and can't feed or clothe their children? It was figured by a person outside of the postal service that if every person used at least one 44 cent stamp a week in this country for something.....pay a bill, write your mom an I love you letter....whatever! That will help a great deal. But,we all have to participate. Will you do this minor thing? I am and I do not have a big income, but I think I can handle 44 cents a week.

i'd rather pay .50 cents than have them close the one near me. that means either i'd have to get someone to watch mom while i go to the much farther one for stamps,or order them online. i've even told them that directly, and they said not as many people feel as i do.

It never comes through. People always give this type of pitch when something or someone is in need. If you'd only give X per Y, Z would be saved! But why are they in this position in the first place? If they've wasted money and have gone into debt, there's a reason outside of email. It's simply another inefficient government program that's in the hole. Surprise, surprise. It's sad that folks would lose their jobs if the Postal Service collapsed or has to downsize, but it's not up to everyone else to save it for them. And not that people wouldn't be willing to save it, mind you. But it's just a scam that everyone's purchase of stamps would somehow pull the service out of the red. It wouldn't happen. America's government--our uberthick bureaucracy--wastes hundreds upon hundreds of billions of dollars every single year. I'm sorry for folks who might lose their jobs, but the answer is not to keep funneling money into failing programs and services. They need to be obliterated so that they can begin to function more as actual businesses and less like taxpayer-dependent entitlements. It's a minor thing, the 44 cent, but it wouldn't help save the place. All money has gone to waste there. What's being done at the U.S. Postal Service to give us any confidence that future money wouldn't be wasted as well? When most of these dependent businesses get more money, they double down on the waste. It's a pattern that repeats in America quite often.

They owe because the postal employees wanted prescriptions added to their health insurance package. They went to the their group and took the Postal Service to court where a judge told the postal court they needed to pay over $5 million a year to the government medical association or whatever it's called to add the prescription attachment to each employees medical benefits. So,they did not overspend,it was court ordered.

And eventually if all 6 million people in this country would spend a mere 44 cents a week then it would mount up and save them.

You're talking about some small change on the large scale. You're speaking about millions for one particular instance. The United States Postal Service loses billions of dollars every year. Some estimates state the USPS loses $7 billion on average and lost over $8.5 last year alone. 44-cents/day solving that? If a private company lost that much per year, well... they wouldn't be a company anymore. But with the Postal Service, taxpayers just keep feeding its failure. Something needs to change with that place.

Well now postage is like about 47 cents to mail off something and keeps on going up. I get a lot of packages via online sites so I pay the higher postage all the time. But it is a shame so many post offices have to close and people loose jobs. Wish there was an easier solution.

I do a lot of shopping on line, in Canada, and in the United States. That should keep the post office going for a while. I also wrote a letter to my grandmother, last weekend. She doesn't have e-mail. My mother doesn't either, and there are always birthday, anniversary, Christmas, and other types of cards to send. I received a wedding invitation some months ago, and a baby shower invitation too. While it's true the mail will not be as popular as it was, there will always be a need for it.

I already use enough stamps weekly for my bills. I send quite a few out instead of using the internet to pay them.
