I love watching hgtv...and love watching them go in and redo someone's room or their whole house. Sometimes though I really don't like what they did. I love getting idea's from them but as a whole most of the time I really don't like some of the ideas they have or their color choices. If they came and did a room for me I am afraid I would undo it! LOL..I have the things I love around me making it my own space. Could you let someone else come in and redecorate your home or even a room?

I would take their suggestions and help but I would have to retain control over what is actually done. I couldn't just let some else have free reign to do whatever they want to my house. After all, I have to live in it after they get done. If I didn't like it, I would have to change it right away, so it would have been a waste of effort on their part anyway.
I always wonder about those shows where the surprise the homeowner with a makeover or whatever. They come in and ooooh and aaaah, but I wonder if they are just being polite or do they really like it. I would like to check back with the people later on and see if they kept the decor the same or changed it.

I have often wondered the something. Do they ask the people about colors they dislike? I hate the color blue in houses and would not be able to live with it.

Same here...it would be fun to check back. The other night they redid a room and the guy said it would take a while to get used to....that says to me that there were things he didn't really like...maybe I am wrong but then his wife tried to cover it up and say....he'll like it eventually.

I love my home and the way it's decorated already. However: if I were to sell it, want to jazz it up a little, get it ready for major company, or show off I would employ a designer, but I would prepare to take it out when I'm done with it. Now the family room and my office could use some help. That I could live with for the right price!

Decorating is like cutting my hair. Show me your ideas, I show you mine. Do not think "outside the box"! When I say shoulder length, I mean shoulder length! Touch my house with county and I will hurt you! Show me the furniture first. No leather, no peacocks. I have to live with it!

No way! I wouldn't let them pick out a pillow! I like what I like and I don't care if it is chic or not! I can't even see What Not To Wear without having a homicidal urge!

If i was trying to sell my home and it wouldnt sell because of furniture and paint colors in my house then yes i would have them come in and fix it to sell the house. Now if friends came in yor house and did the one room im not sure i would like it because im a very neutral and earth tone colored person most of the time and dont htink i would like a bright room in my house and most of the time they paint a room some bright color and i dont really like that very much. I probably would have to change it to the way it was before so i would be comfortable with it.

I have absolutely no taste and no ideas for home decoration...
My previous apartment was just a set of wooden shelves and a bed; I remember I paid about $100 to the girl who made my furniture for the whole apartment. After that, I only purchased a comfortable chair to use while staying in front of the computer - that was the only major investment I ever made in furniture
So yes, I'd be more than happy to let somebody decorate the place I now live in... if nothing else, at least they could throw away all the clutter that's gathered around.

Probably so since we have a couple of rooms that are disasterous. We need a new bathroom floor in one bathroom and could use some help in an extra bedroom with furniture and carpeting. Wouldn't want our living room/dining room combo touched since I am extremely happy with the arrangement, carpeting and furniture. My husband could live in a shed as long as he had a bed, remote control and cell phone. He doesn't really care about anything else in the house.

In my house, as in everything else, I will get ideas from those around me, but I will be the one with the final word on what I want. I may be inspired a bit from one area, a bit more from another, or not at all, and the whole thing is my own original design.
My mother has a degree in interior decorating, so if I am going to get advice from anyone, it will be her!

I'm not sure if I would like someone to decorate my home or not unless they decorated it within my tastes. I would be afraid they may do it to my dislike.

I sometimes feel guilty that I enjoy makeover shows so much, because I know full well I would not like someone decorating a room for me. The fact is no matter how much someone knows your tastes and even working with a blank room, the idea of throwing out someone's furniture especially without being consulted - that chair/table/etc may have special meaning even though it may not suit the new design has always bugged me, there is no guarantee that it will turn out the way you like it. I have remodelled portions of the house before, but the fun is choosing the fixtures, the colour, the material used. There have been ideas that I have applied after seeing them on a show, so I gained idea of what a room can change just by changing the colour for instance.

Well that is because you already have an eye for art. I am not the least bit artistic. I probably couldn't even match colors very well. That last time we tried really decorating.. we did a really lousy job. We picked out a gray theme for our living room.. but it ended up looking more baby blue which just didn't work out well. I think we should have gone with a darker shade of gray, but we were afraid it would make the room too dark.
I would love if someone else decorated my home.. but we'd have to sort of work together. They'd have to know what colors I like and don't like.. and hubby as well. I don't think we could have a room painted lime green or bright orange, you know? I'm totally open to experimenting with new colors, but I like darker colors, as does hubby. I'm more of a fall and winter color person.. while hubby just likes black and gray.

I could let them do a room, but I wouldn't let them do my whole house. Especially the people from Design on a Dime. I mean they try, and they do well for a thousand dollars, but they always put the bulk of the money on one thing that I normally just think is average. HGTV used to have some shows I really really liked and would have loved to come in and do a room of mine.

I love some of the ideas I get from the shows, but like you wouldn't be able to let someone come in and do a complete job. One of the things I dislike about what they do is they all look unlived in, like a model home. I like things to looked lived in and loved. I have photos all over the place. On the walls, end tables, bookshelves where ever I can fit them in. I also love knick knacks, and those shows tend to be on the bare side or sterile to me. I enjoy the decorating of my place and would be truly heartbroken to come in and find all my personal touches removed, my hine is a reflection if me. If that makes sense, it reflects my personality.

Hi Jill!
I might but as long as I can put my own suggestions and ideas during the decorating. I believe in the talent of interior designers but when it comes to my room or our home, I would still want to have it personalized to my own taste. Or better yet, I will lead the decorating and I could take some suggestions and ideas from someone else.

It would depend on who was doing it. I have two friends that I would trust with such a task. Other than that, I probably couldn't allow someone to redo my entire home--or even just a room.
