Master or slave?
One is compelled to fulfill all wishes of the other, and the second is totally dependent on first, becoming a slave to his addiction. Very ironic, but both seem to be slaves.
On the other hand, each of us is a slave of his weaknesses, but still can not declare that none of us is a free man. Depends what he means every word as "freedom" and how we treat superficial or deep problem.
If a master can not dispense with his slave, which of the two is a free man?

To be a slave is to submit, to be a master is to dominate. Now, just like love and hate, there is a very fine line between them. To submit as a slave is definitely a need as is to master and dominate. I can see how both sides of that equation are similar. I wouldn't call both slaves, I would call both desires. Some people need to be submissive in order to survive and some need to dominate in order to survive. I would say thats a vicious cycle.

I guess the master is free if you're going to consider privileges. A slave has not that much freedom. His freedom depends on the masters decision.

In this case none of them is a free person because there is a strong connection which can't be broken between master and slave;however, not being completely free from your addiction has some advantages if you're the master,so I would definitely prefer to be in this position rather than be a hopeless slave. It's also true that we're slaves of our own weaknesses, but we can also fight them and if we have enough will we can set ourselves free from them at least partially, because total freedom doesn't exist in this world.

Man is free in spirit above nature and can treat as his goals higher ... He is both master and slave. Freedom. Independence. Sovereignty. Autonomy. From lonely individual, the nations largest, dreams, fight for these ideals. But, are they possible? Is anyone free under the sun? How does an independent person? But a sovereign community? You're right: total freedom does not exist in this world.
Thanks for response.

Have you seen the movie Kung Fu Panda II? This movie revolved around a discipline called the "inner peace". They say that when you have this inner peace you will be free from earthly desires and such things. This means that being free is not knowing what's to come. Not worrying about anything. To be free is to be master of yourself and not make yourself be a slave to worldly belongings, and that's how one will be free.

Hmmm...it reminds me the politics in my country , israel :)
We have a prime minister and all the ministers that make laws.
The citizens chose all of them to be in the government but all the ministers just don't make our life easier , they just cooperate with the rich people that control the economy , forgetting why they were chosen in first place , to serve us , the people. We are supposed to be the masters and they make us slaves , lol.
About the original idea of this discussion , the more one can control his desires and addictions and act by logic instead , the more he is free. It takes a lot of self control and awareness to be really free.
