I have thought about online grocery shopping. I also wondered what the charge was..do you know? There is also a tip to consider so I wonder if it is all very expensive. Of course one saves their own gas and time so maybe it's worth it? I would consider it in an emergency but I don't think on a regular basis. I like comparing and looking too much

Hi, thanks for your response. Here, in UK I think its about £4-£5 delivery charge. However, there are certain promotion, like if you get shopping of over £100 you'll get free delivery and things like this.

Unless I find myself sick and alone, then I do not think I can shop online for groceries. I like to see actual edible products before I buy them.

I would shop for groceries online if there was no shipping costs of course. I wouldnt mind doing it and if there was a freezer to ship my cold items i wouldntmind doing it at all as it would help others as well too save money by not driving around and saving on gas. If i cant get freezer items or meat items then i wouldnt grocery shop online, but thats the only thing and of course i dont want my eggs broken and my bread smushes and none of the class containers broken of course. Those are the things that mighty go wrong and i hope they dont of course as this would be a great idea and help so many people out there that might not have a means of transportation and people trying to save money as well.

Actually i was also wondering how they would ship ice cream and stuff like that. But i am sure they won't break eggs if they do they might have to replace.

Personally I dislike shopping and I thought about it, but did not found an interesting shop offering home delivery service in my actual town, which is small. Delivery by mail adds too much to the bill to be interesting, except for delicatessen : I bought some regional products with an attractive final price like this.

Yes, indeed delivery charge are usually high, maybe unless one is ordering in large quantity it won't be cheap.

Delivery charges are the main obstacle to buy groceries online : products are too cheap compared to the price charged for the delivery.

a few years ago i tried online shopping, for a while, it was ok, but i gave it up and started going to the shop again. it was at sainsburys. there are some things its easy to buy online, like products you know well and regularly buy, but others, like fruit and vegetable, where you want to look at the product and chose which ones to buy aren't so good, because when someone choses your carrots, or apples, or whatever, for you, they would not know what your preferences were. i know it sounds silly but i tend to look at fruit and vegetables and chose the ones that look most attractive to me. also i quite like browsing in the shop, and you couldn't do that in the same way online. though i think the website i used has got a lot better since i used it, as i was looking at it the other day, so its probably easier now if you know what you want.

Hi, Thanks for reply Francesca, Can ask few more question? Did you have any issues or say problems with Sainsbury's while shopping online? Have they ever brought your eggs broken or bread smashed, or have they delivered goods late? I read that sainsbury's provides £10 voucher's when they get even 1 minute late. What about the delivery charges you had pay? or is it free ? many thanks!

it was a few years ago, i think it was about £5 delivery, and you selected a slot, and they were pretty good at sticking to it. the food, as far as i can remember, was never damaged, they used to put it in a van, stored in crates, in a rack, in carrier bags, so it was unlikely anything would get damaged, because of the way the shopping was stored in the van. but the problem is when i shop i tend to check the product before putting it in the basket, and of course the person shopping for you won't necessarily reject a product for the same reason you might. i think its improved now because when i tried it there was no picture of the product, just a list name, but now you get little pictures, which makes it easier to be certain you have the right product. so the database from which a customer selects has improved since i did it. but really its about what is most important for you when you shop, as you lose your own quality control facility, if someone shops for you, so it depends how important that is to you. you can always try it once and see whether or not you like it!

I used to do online shopping from tesco before i had a car. I found the first few shops the worst trying to find all my shopping on there. The convenience of it was good and I was usually able to find a time slot to suit me. I found the worst thing their idea of 'alternatives' if my item was out of stock, usually more expensive than I would have chosen although I have to admit they were good at taking back items. This was all ok but if I ordered something it was because I needed it so it sort of defeated the object sending it back. Now I have a car and a local supermarket so I shop in store instead.

Thanks for the reply :) its seems like substitution is no no. have they ever sent you right alternatives? at least sending it back is easy :) btw do you think shopping online is expensive than shopping in the store?

I have used Netgrocer previously, but find it much more expensive than just going to the store. If I were financially able to spend the difference, I may consider it again, but for now I will stick with regular shopping. I think if local stores would implement the online option, it would be a greater success. With local online shopping, you could save the shipping costs by picking up purchased items. It would make it safer to order frozen packages and meat locally also.

Hi acisMahrje, I have never done any online grocery shopping. I do think it is a very good idea for those that are handicapped or confined to the home. New ideas and new ways are being invented all the time to help people that are incapable of doing certain things and don't have anyone that they can depend on to do these things and online grocery shopping is a great help to those that fall into that catagory. Be blessed.

I do enjoy shopping online but there is a limit to the things that I feel at ease with buying. And shopping online for groceries is where I draw the line down. I really understand why people would do something like this though. I really do to say the very least. But I am a bit leery about the condition that they would come in and there are just somethings that I feel more confident with expecting the quality of in person. It is an intriguing concept to be sure however and I think that there are going to be more people shopping for groceries then ever before as time does pass. However grocery shopping online is really something that is not going to be in my comfort zone to say the very least. Its just something where I have real issues with the quality control, as there are somethings that I have to inspect. But you never know.

Sometimes I do shopping online as it is convenient and time-saving. But for clothes and electronic products I'd prefer to buy in the makets. As I am not sure if they're really suitable for me or the exact thing I want.

I haven't shopped for groceries online. I don't think I would or if I did it would be non perishable items only. Not really sure how that would work though.
