What would be the consequences of the creation of an European Super League?

The beginning of a new season in the Champions League represents an exciting moment for soccer fans, but not everyone is very pleased with the format of the competition, and the biggest and richest European clubs appear to be more and more attracted by the idea of creating an European Super League in which minnows would no longer be accepted. So far Uefa managed to keep the situation under control and maintained the Champions League available to everyone, giving more chances to clubs from smaller countries to play in world's top club competition, but that situation might change one day.In a few years we might have an European Super League played only between elite European clubs, and if such a thing happened it would definitely have a huge impact on football and probably very unpleasant consequences for smaller clubs. My questions are:Do you agree with the creation of such a Super League played only between the big guns? And what would the consequences be for the rest of clubs and European football in general?

This is a very good topic. In the game PES I always make a league made from the top teams from the strongest championships in Europe. But the reason for this is that my favorite team is Bayern and there is no Bundesliga in the game, so I need to make myself a league.
In real life I think that if such a league would be created, we would have strong games every weekend, but it would completely destroy the initial purpose of the football. I think that this shouldn't be allowed to be done, as the national leagues would suffer a lot from it. Of course, for the teams would mean more money and lots of strong games, but after a while it would become more like a national league, as the laws in the different countries would make huge differences between the teams. We know that in Germany the teams have to have positive balance and they have to pay their taxes and bank credits in time. In Italy, Spain or England the teams can spend more, as the laws are not so severe.
I wouldn't agree with this kind of league, as it would show that the football is just about making money and not for the real purpose of it. And it would destroy the teams from Eastern Europe for sure.

I completely agree with your points of view, such a league would only benefit the powerful European clubs, and the national leagues and smaller clubs would certainly have a lot to suffer. As for Eastern European Clubs,I guess only a few wealthy clubs from Russia and Ukraine will be invited to participate in this league.Anyway,I hope this idea will never be put into practice.

I guess German or French teams wouldn't agree neither, as the local rivalry between many of the teams is huge, and not all of them would play in that Super League. How would it be the Bundesliga without Kaiserslautern-Bayern, Hamburg-Bayern, the French League without Lyon-Marseille, and maybe the English League without Everton-Liverpool? I guess this will never be a case, and if it will be, many people would turn their back on football.

So you mean the European Super League will only include top clubs from Spain, England, Italy and etc?
I am personally against that. Though it's nice to see big clubs playing each other, the upsets that sometimes happen when small weaker clubs win against big stronger clubs make football unpredictable and interesting to watch.

I am against it as well,I think there will no longer be surprises in such a competition because there would only be strong teams, and the game would certainly loose much of its charm without surprises. This is one of the most important arguments against the creation of such a league.

I think that as you keep creating more such elite competitions, you will find that there are enough teams that still are in the fringe. So it really does not make sense for me to create another Super League. Right now there are qualification rules for teams to qualify in the Champions League and they come through it. So it is unfair to say that they are minnows or something like that.
Cheers!
