So I am the type of person that loves animals. Although I don't own one, I was thinking about getting a small chihuahua. I saw one in the pet store the other day but I don't think we're going to get it. Well anyway to get to the discussion. While walking out of the pet store a woman stopped (mind you just a random woman) and said "I can't stand to see people shopping at pet stores because there is too many animals that need to be adopted you should never buy a pet at the pet store!"
So after that me being me said "yea well I like to know where my animal is coming from and know that my children will be safe around them. I told her that adopting pets is fine and dandy, but I don't want an animal that has been abused around my children because it could turn at any minute. I just don't want that.
So naturally this woman got all poofy and walked away, but I agree with what I said and I'll stand by it. I mean yes you can find an animal at an adoption agency that are ok around children, but the thing is that I want to get them as puppies and know that I can train them or have them trained appropriately. I don't want to have the risk of them hurting one of my children. What do you think? Do you prefer adoption agencies or do you prefer pet stores, or neither?

If you want your children to be safe around your new dog, don't you ever think about buying a puppy from a pet store. Those who are selling their puppies through pet stores don't care about the puppies' health or temperament. They care only about the money and they breed their dogs only for money.
You have two choices if you want to bring home a dog for your children: either you adopt one from a shelter, but only if the dog was tested and they guarantee he's safe around children, or you buy a dog from a respectful breeder. In the second case, make sure the breeder shows you both parents of the puppy, to be sure they don't show signs of aggressiveness. A responsible breeder will choose for you the best puppy - a healthy puppy with a great temperament. But for such a puppy you have to wait, as a breeder like this don't have litters all the time. They probably have one or two litters in a year so you have to put yourself on a waiting list to have the puppy you want.

I like getting puppies versus dogs too so they don't get bad habits yet and you have a higher chance of having a pet that hasn't been abused. You can train it to have a behavior that you want.Sometimes adoption places have puppies too though and you can get them pretty cheap with them being neutered and spayed already so you don't have to worry about having lots of puppies later on to worry about but pet stores you have a higher chance of knowing what breed it is since adoption places sometimes don't know exactly what breed they are. There is good in both places, least that is my opinion. That lady should of not got mad on your thoughts everyone thinks differently about different things.

You have no chance of knowing what breed your dog is just because it came from a pet store. The newest trend is to sell "designer breed" dogs that aren't of any particular breed, but, rather mutts that they are charging 2 or 3 thousand dollars for.

i understand both sides of the story but think of it this way if people dont puppies or kittens from a pet store once the puppies get to old to be puppies and they are still there no one has bought them they will be sent to the pound or shelter so wrether you adopt from a shelter or you buy from a breeder or pet store you are doing that animal a favor not everyone should adopt from a shelter most of those pets have special needs that not everyone can handle (not saying you couldnt handle those special needs) but i agree with children you need to know where your animals come from but be cautious most pet stores get their puppies from puppy mills

what u said is right, when we adopt puppies we can train them by ourself and we will feel safe to leave the pets towards children, but we and family members should mentally prepared if the pet leave us suddenly, because its very hard when a loving person is not with us,so not only training for our pets,we should also think
