. heaviest meal of the day

Health experts says , that the heaviest meal of the day should be breakfast. As an adage goes, Eat Breakfast , like a King, Lunch, like a Prince and Dinner , like a Pauper . But I have observed though, that it’s dinner that we eat heavily at home. That’s because for breakfast, I would always prepare just oatmeal , bread with choices of fillings and choices of milk, coffee or chocolate. I still have to prepare myself for work , that's why. Lunch would be at the office, so the servings of the foods we buy are not plentiful. But dinner, because it’s at home, where everyone is present, would be eaten heavily. It’s complete with dessert. I know, it’s what it should not be, but I guess, I just have to lessen my portions.

i usually eat small meal during breakfast.. i think it's because we don't really have more time to prepare for it.. just like what you have said.. we eat plenty during dinner because it is the only time that we can prepare more..

Yes, since we are working , we tend to rush what we eat , so it has to be light and easy. But at dinner time, since almost everybody is home already from their works, talk becomes animated over dinner, making us eat more. And like you said, we have more time to prepare nice foods for dinner.

Yes, jetztrose, that's the reason actually why dinner becomes the heaviest, other than the foods .

And i guess dinner time is the most enjoyable meal to have in everyday.. i don't know i just enjoy to eat every dinner.. i think it's because all of my family members are present during that time..and we have lots of talks when taking our dinner and it made me special that we are having fun eating together.. what do you think?

Hi sim! You are right that many of us go for heavy dinner. However, it is always better to follow the rule, cited by you. I take normal breakfast and normal lunch and I've lately cut down the intake during dinner. I wish to feel lighter during night so that I could sleep peacefully, heavy meals during night create problems and disturb our sleeping pattern.

It is wise on your part to sleep after 3 hours of taking meals. Don't worry heavy food will not give you heart attack.

Good of you my friend , to do that. Actually, if i had taken a heavy dinner, i would do chores after that and see to it that i would sleep at least 3 hours after that. We would watch TV so as not to get sleepy at once. I am afraid, the heavy meal might give me a heart attack or a nightmare!

Oh, i envy you neildc for having a workplace , just near your house. At least, you get to eat at home, thus lessening your expense in lunch at the office. I guess, most of us working guys, do take light breakfast in the morning on weekdays to avoid getting late.

Normally when I do have breakfast, it is usually a large breakfast to get started in the morning. However, because I am so busy, constantly running, and I am constantly burning through food, I do not do the typical breakfast lunch and dinner. My appetite and activities will simply not allow that. I get hungry too fast and frequently to just have three meals in one day. I have school, and lift weights so I am using a lot of energy through the day. For me, I would probably eat somewhere between 6-8 times in a day. Before, I would have school, work, weights, and heavy physical work, on top of running to chase buses, so I was constantly searching for food. My day would start off around 7 am and I would have eaten a third meal by around 10 or 10:30. These types of days, I would eat as much as 10 times a day. Yeah, I go through a lot of food without thinking about it. Some meals are larger than other, I do admit, which would normally slow a person down, but it never slowed me down having so much food in me. What I do throughout a day is not normal, or probably human, working heavily mentality at school, and physically at work, and lifting. It is expensive to feed me, and people pick on me because what I eat in a day takes a few days for a normal person. I don't care, I grew myself into a big monstrous beast, and I knew I would need the fuel to keep this thing going and growing.

Thanks. I try to make sure that I eat good food, but I admit, sometimes that doesn't happen. I noticed that I do eat more actual food than before but even buying food to cook is expensive, and that is before taking into account the monster appetite. My quest to get bigger and stronger means bigger loads from the grocery store to fuel this monster. My grocery shopping looks like I shop for a family, but I live alone. Buying bulk groceries only helps me a little bit. Yet, I would fill up the fridge and cabinets and empty everything out before the next shopping trip, without wasting food. My neighbors joke about me buying everything in the store leaving nothing for them. It goes for a good cause to help me grow, and gain strength, especially when bulking up. The rate of food consumption most people think is not possible.

Then , go for it my friend ! As long as you have the money to finance your monster appetite, then, it won't be a problem to you.

I can truly understand why you get hungry always. When you lift weight, you develop mucles. Those muscles burn so much calories , hence you need to refuel every time . It's nice to know that you really take care of your body. Take care though , that what you eat should always be burned through your weight lifting, lest it will develop into fats.

Eating breakfast heavily is good because we must feed our engine we used which are our body and mind to do all task for the day. However, you have a complete breakfast followed by lunch. Only at dinner, if you practice this, you may eat earlier as 2 to 3 hrs. I think before going to bed so that all your intakes will be digested or you may take a digestible food at early eve.

I agree that taking a heavy breakfast is good because your stomach didn't consume any food for the whole night while you were sleeping. Having breakfast can also kickstart your morning by having a better focus during working. Eat an average portion for lunch, especially if you have an office job as you will be sitting on your chair for the whole day. Taking a heavy lunch will make you feel sleepy, and also lack of movement will allow fats to accummulate at certain body parts, especially stomach, buttock and thigh. As for dinner, eat less and make it 4 hours before your bed time if possible as to allow food to digest before you goes to bed. In addition, drink more water everyday as water helps to digest food, thus increase metabolism.

Well, i think i am also eating a heavy breakfast though they are just oatmeal and bread and coffee. They sustain me the whole morning and feel energized by them already. Our dinner maybe heavier than the rest but we usually eat early in the evening and when we finally sleep , it has been digested already because it's more or less 3 hours and more before bedtime. Yes, when lunch is taken so heavily , the tendency is to be so sleepy after lunch. So, usually i take coffee with my lunch. It serves as my dessert.

I think many are as guilty as you, haha! This leads to improper diet. That's why a lot of people become obese too. We are all tied up w/ work in the morning, thus many of us do not really observe eating a big breakfast. Most of the time too we are tied up w/ work thus not eating well enough for lunch. I think we have more time during dinner, where you can eat w/o any worries and having the people you love to share it w/ :)

Yes, dinner the heaviest is inevitable. With more time to prepare and the family being present to partake of it, is what makes it delicious, hence making us eat heavily.

We all need to watch our portions when we eat dinner. But you know too we are also more relaxed and usually not as stressed for time to get things done as we would otherwise be in the morning. I like a good hearty breakfast but don't have the time other than on the weekends, but then that turns into making something everyone likes and alot of dishes and left overs.

Just like you my friend, i don't really have the time to prepare a heavy breakfast on weekdays, because our reporting time is earlier than that on Saturday (half day only). Hence, it is only on Saturdays and Sundays that i get to prepare and eat a hearty breakfast. I always make sure that i eat a heavy breakfast on Saturday, because since it's only half day sometimes i get to go home at 1:00 pm. So as not to get hungry even if it's past lunch time i eat heavily in the morning. It sustains me , until i get home at about 1;30 - 2:00 pm, where i just have to take my lunch at home.

I have heard that the largest meal of the day should be breakfast, however I know that I couldn't do that because I don't have the time when I get up in the morning to be able to get that amount of food ready before I have to either leave the house or start work for the day. I have my largest meal in the evening just because it's literally the only time that I am able to prepare the food and then have enough time to eat the food at the same time. When I am on holiday I like to have a large meal in the morning, but that is when other people can cook it for you so you have more time.

We are on the same boat in that. Sometimes, we really have to have enough time, to be able to eat a heavy meal. And usually that happens to us in the evening. It's unhealthy that way though, but it can't be avoided sometimes.

After 8 months of following a healthy eating regime with Weight Watchers and losing 77.5 lbs I have found that breakfast is really important; the word 'breakfast' actually means breaking your fast and after a long period without eating(over night)your blood sugar levels will be low. Eating breakfast is therefore really important and it can actually help you lose weight when dieting by kick-starting your metabolism If you don't eat breakfast your body is likely to crave something sweet and you'll end up snacking on unhealthy foods. You will also feel full until lunchtime with no temptation to snack your way through the morning. Some recent studies have even shown that eating breakfast with protein and carbohydrates can make you more alert and assertive to face the day. I now eat three good meals a day and don't feel the need to snack in betweeen meals and it is certainly working for me!!

Wow, you lost 77 lbs. my friend! What a feat! I salute you for that. Actually, whenever i eat a heavy breakfast, consisting of fried rice, scrambled eggs and dried fish i would go hungry again at 3:00 p.m. So usually, when i do that , i saves my money for lunch at the office, because i just take a snack at 3:00 p.m. our snack time.

On days that I plan my meal, my heaviest is Lunch. That is so that I won't be hungry before dinner and go bingeing during snack time. However, when we are busy at the office, or when things are stressful, I find that my biggest meal is dinner because at the end of the day, I feel relieved that I'm out of the office so I get to enjoy the food more, and partly, I tend to overeat when stressed. Breakfast is usually light because a full stomach early in the morning is sometimes painful for me.

I thought you will gonna say you are rushing for work, so you just have a light breakfast. Why would a heavy breakfast give you pain? For lunch at the office to be heavy , i have to have a bigger allowance for it. A heavy dinner should be done at the first onset of the evening , so we could have a lot of time to have it digested before going to bed. Washing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen are the chores that helps me burn the heavy dinner i sometimes have at night.

I guess that saying Eat Breakfast , like a King, Lunch, like a Prince and Dinner , like a Pauper is used all around the world. I too have heard that is true but I don't think many can follow it. I eat breaskfast but not a big one. The biggest breakfasts I eat are while on vacation and thenm afterwards I feel sleepy. It is not easy to have a very light dinner..as you say it usually turns out to be the heaviest and that's really not good especially if you eat late at night.

Yes, it's difficult to make dinner light, because it's the only time where all the family are present. But then we have it around 7:00 to 8:00 , so there's plenty of time for our stomach to digest them before finally going to sleep. Usually at breakfast, my husband is still asleep so i eat alone and faster so as not to be late at the office. It's the lightest actually.

Well, i do sometimes take a heavy lunch whenever our boss treats us to lunch. However, after that i would see to it that i won't be sitting for about 15 minutes , by reading a newspaper while standing. Sitting after having lunch specially a heavy one, doubles the fat in my stomach.

I do agree with you. since we are working people, there is lesser time for breakfast. there are even times if you are really tight you just drink a cup of coffee and go... for lunch, because we are eating at the office, the appetite is really not that high. considering also that you want to save more of your breaktime for naps. so you eat fast... and here comes dinner... where all of the family members are around. chitchats as to what happened during the day always happens during dinnertime. and you do not have anything to catch up. so it makes the meal more enjoyable.

Since I both my husband and I have home businesses, we can eat when we please. He decided it was healthier to eat the big meal at lunch time. It took me a long time to get used to this, because it really breaks up my work day to have to have the biggest meal ready at 3 PM and then have to leave for the post office in time to get there before it closes at 5. That's one reason I work so late at night and get up so late in the morning. I find this system doesn't really work well for me, since my body doesn't think it's really night yet if I haven't eaten another meal by 6PM, but my husband only wants fruit then or a piece of toast. That means that since I'm not cooking for him, I'm usually filling up on junk food. I know I won't be losing much weight unless I give up this bad habit.

At least, you get to adjust your meals according to both your availability. As to your dinner, since you said you don't have to prepare one anymore because your husband just wants a piece of toast, then you could just probably eat fruits at night. I have tried doing that myself and it was good for my metabolism. Junk foods at night is not healthy, my friend.

I have also observed the same thing in our home. It's just not feasible to eat plenty in the morning. I've heard of that adage as well, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to follow it. Plus, dinner time is a great way to bond with the family, if the food is good (and plenty), there will be more time to bond!

Actually, the food need not be expensive to be delicious. It just have to be shared by the whole family, happily. The talk on the table makes it worth eating.
