Second hand shops are getting pretty popular these days. Its cheap, they are pretty much imported from eleswhere and some have good brands too. But For me, i think its really a no no. I am not really into using second hand stuffs and of course especially not clothes where i would be wearing them no less than 8 hours a day.. im sure not putting on used clothes, not by anyone who i do not know. Im sorry if this may offend anyone... just my pov. what about you? would you mind/buy second hand clothes?

Hi chiyosan, honestly, I sometimes buy second hand clothes. Some are still good maybe the previous owners only wore them once or a little more as the same still look new. Don't be sorry about offending anyone. You're entitled to what you believe in. We have different principles and we have to respect it. What I did is to first soak the clothes in water added with disinfectant. After that wash them and dry. Then the clothes are ready to wear.... lol

thank you pahak. maybe the storesyou have been to are great one, and maybe they too have washed those before putting them up for sale, i have seen some second hand stores that displays some really smelly stuff so i guess that is why i swore never to buy second hand clothes. =)

Hi pahak! i hope that the smell was already not present in what you have bought? usually even new clothes or items would have a distinct smell to them, right?

What I bought has a faint smell that is why I soak them with water and disinfectant.

Hi chiyosan! I buy second hand clothes. I think there is nothing wrong with buying and using them as long as you wash them properly first before using. And ironing them would kill also the germs or whatever you are disgusted with. For sure, any virus- or bacteria-carrying disease that can be transferred by clothes will be removed by a powerful detergent and high temperature. Sometimes it's even good to buy these stuffs. Aside from the fact that the stuffs are cheap, there will be no other person wearing the same design.

Hi, Personally I don't buy second hand clothes all the time. However, sometimes I will go there especially when I want to find branded clothes that are still in good condition. I am very selective before buying them. That way, the purchase is always the best deal.

aha! that is what they say... we always have to spend a lot of time searching for the best deal in such stores because you have to be very picky.

In fact I seldom want to buy second hand stuff. And I don't think I will buy the second hand clothes. Even if I can't afford it, I will wait until one day I am able to buy it. I prefer something brand new which totally belongss to me and I will not have worries. Especially today the clothes are not very expensive, there is no need to take a risk to buy the second hand clothes. I love China

Actually over here, the normal day to day office attire is very cheap. There is no need to buy second hand items. The only thing I may consider buying second hand is branded leather bags in good condition. Most of us do not use branded leather bag when we go to work. However, it will look nice when we attend a function.

I have personally against buying second-hand clothes are not any of us can afford to buy something nice and good price. so that might be willing and wants to let such a store of purchase. I often think that even there, sometimes you can find a good product than if you look at regular stores. I happened to buy t-shirts home when working in the garden. so let's have those stores. nice day!

Well, if I really need and I'm desperate to get a piece of clothing that I know I'm going to need, then I'll buy second hands clothes. When I was in high school, I would usually buy second hand clothes because I am going to need them at costume in school plays, after that I will give the clothes to those who need or sometimes I use them as rags. I don't buy used clothes for myself, I just buy it when I really NEED to, especially when I know I'm not going to use them for a long time.

I do not mind second hand clothing, as growing up me and my sibilings would have pass me around clothes from each other and from our cousins. I've also bought things from goodwill, a store here in the USA with second hand everything. You can find some really cute and nice clothes from these types of stores, that are hardly worn and very cheap. In fact it does make me want to go look for some.

hi chiyosan. i'm a big fan of second hand shops and second hand clothes. i used to buy second hand shirts, pants, and shoes. i don't see anything wrong with it. i just make sure that i have the items i bought from second hand shops dry cleaned in laundry shops. of course, im very choosy and picky with the items i buy. i respect your view about the matter and i must agree that wearing second hand stuff isn't for everyone. to each his own.

for practicality, yes we buy and use second hand clothes and other stuff that are being sold in a very cheap price. "ukay-ukay" is everywhere here in our place and you can even see guys with their wooden carts roaming the neighborhood offering their "ukay-ukay" stuffs.

began to buy second hand clothes only this year and was influenced by my daughter who was also influenced by a friend who had donned a beautiful dress in a party. to my daughter's surprise, it came from a second hand shop. i do not frequently go but i did buy a few clothes from these shops. i find it not so convenient though because not all the clothes in these shops are good. one has to be patient enough. as to hygiene, or safety concerns, why would one put on a piece from second hand shops without washing it first? i wonder if there would be hyperthermal bacteria that will be in these clothes that can't be killed by hot water, if one decides to dip in first in hot water.

and let's not forget, we have no way of knowing how many people have tried on new clothes before we buy them. and few people have a problem with that.

To me, I find that secondhand is more comfortable than other clothes. Jeans that are worn into are very comfortable and the tees are too.

I am an one who never go up with the second hand clothes. Second hand clothes are once used by others and the clothes have the taste of sweat of a body and I am not loving to wear a clothes to wear a dress with others taste.

hi wonderboy! thank you so much for your response to the discussion. :D i'd say that is quite a true thought of what second hand clothes can have. i think body odors can be transferred? is it? my mom always say it is so she never really lets us wear other people's clothes. so even with friends i am not comfortable to lend or borrow things not mind especially if i need to wear them.

absolutely! i have found great antiques and brand new clotthes at thrift stores but as for used, really, what is the difference wearing used clothing from someone you know or someone you dont? you wash it before you wear it anyways right? i can get nice, designer stuff that is used at consignment shops for a great price.

I don't mind buying second hand clothes. And yes I am one of those who will admit that I can't afford to buy the new ones and since there have been a lot of seller nowadays selling second hand clothes, I did allow myself to be part of the business. Yesterday, I just received a pair of board shorts with the popular brand Billabong. I bought for the reason that I don't have a birthday gift for my cousin Troy and when I received the packaged, I was so surprised that the pair of shorts I bought looks like a brand new. The previous owner told me he only used it thrice and it's in excellent condition on a fair price. I am very heedful with what I buy and thank God, most of the sellers I transact in to are very honest. I hope it will always be that way.

New Clothes - Better than second-hand
I really have nothing against second hand clothes. It all depends on our preference anyway. I also do buy second hand skirts if they suit my taste but I wash and sanitize them first before wearing. I don't buy second hand blouses, dresses and pants and even shoes however. I think I'd rather just buy new ones.

I have often bought second hand clothes. you can get some good clothing bargains this way and show off your own style and trends. New and expensive clothing does not always make a better fashion or fit.

I buy a lot second hand. Times are hard. I have a second hand place where the clothing is in good shape. I always wash them in hot water before I wear them. Same with clothes for my daughter. She goes through sizes so quickly, just like most children, it does not make sense to buy the clothes that she is going to play in and get dirty at full price.
