How does Wikipedia control its quality?

Hello friends,
I was wondering how Wikipedia is able to manage the quality and authenticity of all the content that is added to it every day.
From what I know, anyone and everyone can post articles on different topics on Wikipedia and even edit other articles. But I did not see any verification checks to ensure the quality of this content that we're adding.
Actually, I'm working on a science project for college and stumbled upon a Wikipedia article about the concerned topic. The problem is, I cannot really verify the authenticity of that material and I really need to be correct for this specific project.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest you use Brittanica Online for our research. Wikipedia is a great site for researching, but you need to be careful of what you are gathering from it, since, as you said, just about everybody can edit the articles. I don't really rely on Wikipedia alone, instead, I make it as a base for my research to other more reliable sites and knowledgebase.

Our college don't allow us to use this website in our articles because of the fact that anyone has the ability to change the information in the articles when they might not really know anything about the subject in general. The website is far too big to be able to control the information that gets added to millions of the articles on a daily basis. You should use that website as a starting point to any research that you need to do, but should never use it as the final place that you look before making a decision about anything important.
