I have known many people with the dark circles under their eyes. Most of the people I knew had it due to hereditary. I have heard that placing cucumbers under the eyes helps a great deal. I also know a friend who was given a cream base ointment which also helped her from her doctor. Is she getting plenty of sleep. If she is not sleeping for 8 full hours it could be that she is restless and that can case the dark circles too.

Yes I have also heard that issues with the live also causes dark circles also. With a simple blood test doctors will know if not. It is not easy for her to get 8 hours of sleep due to school this I can understand. So when she has holidays and or vacation times she will be able to rest again.

As others have suggested the main reason is lack of sleep or dehydration. However if this will not help there is a slight (really slight) chance that she has some kind of liver disorder - it is not common but it is advised if you have black eyes (that can't be treated with water and sleep) that you do check liver function (this is what I have been told)... There is another thing that might not be very encouraging - she might have them just because she has them - some people just have them and there is nothing they can do to get rid of them. Take care.

Hello Fantabulous. I have read many articles about eyebags as i have it too. They are however, honest enough to say that there really is NO remedy in the market for eyebags. They would come up with VitK and A creams but still the eyebags would always be there. People with rhinitis can get it even worse as the phlegm gets trap around the sinuses and this would also cause dark circles under the eyes. There is always cosmetic surgery and it can help but... for practical reasons, would one really go under the knife for something as superficial as dark circles. Advise your daughter to sleep for 8 hours, that should at least keep the dark circles out.

do you face the same problem? cuz if you do I don';t know if there is a remedy.. if you don't tell her to try to sleep more...drink lot's of water, avoid watching that much computer. I know that cucumber is good for the dark circles...cut two slices and put them on her eyes...you could try the same thing with slices of potatoes. repeat this for 2 weeks every night before she goes to bed..and let us know if there are any good results. I face the same problem...I have dark circles like I had bean beaten...but sadly there is nothing I could do to get rid of them

Hi fanta! As far as my knowledge goes, dark circles below the eyes are due to insufficient sleep. Please make sure that she takes adequate rest/sleep. As a mother, please also ensure that she is taking balanced diet and not consuming junk food. Lack of certain vitamins and minerals could be the reason for dark circles. Even if this does not solve your problem, you could consult a skin specialist.

fantabulus, In order to know which remedy to use, I believe you will need to know the cause of the dark circles below her eyes. Now, I understand that there are various causes like allergies, hay-fever, sun, fluid retention, dehydration, lack of sleep, iron deficiency anemia and right down to heredity. I am sure causes like iron deficiency anemia, reaction to the sun, allergies and heredity - will need more than natural remedies to overcome or solve the problems like using cucumbers or vitamin supplements. So, please check for the root cause of your daughter's problem before deciding on the right remedy or you might be adding more to the problem than solving or curing it.

hi fantabulus I also get those when I do not get enough good sleep nor drink enough water. a little skin foundation in as close a match as you can get to her own complexion smooth on under her eyes will hide it until her own body heals it. that's my advice.

Cold cucumbers on the eyes may help or she can use a spoon that has set in the freezer for a bit. Just a note* It is the cold that helps so the object doesn't matter so long as it does a thorough job of holding the cold in. I also like to use cotton balls soaked in milk. I don't believe I've ever gotten dark under eyes but some times I do get puffy and it helps. I'm sure it may help her too. Good luck!

Just once slice for each eye will do. Cucumbers do not have any magical benefit on the eyes except that they are really good at holding in cold. I think this is where the expression "cool as a cucumber" came from.

Try having her drink lots of water. One effect of dehydration is the dark circles under the eye. Also, of course she should have enough sleep.

Maybe because she's not sleeping too well. College life is hard to adjust to during the first year. If she sleeps well, and is drinking enough water, then maybe she should see a doctor.

I have the same problem, and it's because poor sleeping habits. I either don't get enough sleep, or, when I do, I over-sleep - and I always get dark circles below the eyes. Sometimes it works with a couple of cucumber slices - I put them on my eyes, and keep them for 10-15 minutes. But I don't always have the time for that. I hope your daughter isn't too stressed with school and manages to get some good sleep.

The dark circles usually appear when we dont have enough sleep. And will go away when we sleep well. You can try to put tomato or potato but these are slow measures and needs to be done daily for 15 minutes to see best results.

It is solely to do with sleep. If you do not get enough restful sleep then you will get dark circles under your eyes. Over the years this can get even worse. It can only be fixed by several days of good sleep. That means going to bed before midnight and getting at least 8 hours of restful sleep. I have an illness that gives me sleeping disorders so even though I sleep 8 + hours a night I still have dark circles. This is because I do not get enough benefit out of my sleep. Your daughter is young and healthy so she could fix the problem by catching up on her missing sleep. This means going to bed and sleeping until she wakes naturally. A couple of days of that should help. When I was working long hours and not getting enough sleep I used to get the dark eyes but got rid of them by catching up on the sleep deficit during the weekends. Since she is young and studying. I assume she is sacrificing her sleep so she can study and go out. It is a common problem for young students. You should tell her that long term sleep deprivation affects the brain to the point that memory starts to suffer. If she wants to do well as a student she is going to have to work in a decent sleep pattern. It is also true that an hour before midnight is worth 2 after. The human body is desined to sleep when its dark and wake when light so if she needs to sleep during daylight she needs to make sure her room is dark like night as any natural light will kick her body clock to wake up. Good curtaining on windows to block out light helps this.

Rest wi h rings of cucumber over the eyes is supposed to take care of the dark circles. I think that rest is the real answer. Cucumbers do have a cooling effect.

I'm sorry I don't know any home made remedy for dark circles. I have the same problem and I use cream with caffeine like Garnier for example. This product is very good and help me with my problem.

i always remember being told it was not getting enough sleep that caused dark circles under the eyes, but then recently i was reading about stress in a book somewhere that stress can cause those dark circles, but i don't know how true it is, but it might be worth considering whether she can do anything to reduce any stress she has.
