I've no idea how, but last night I suddenly heard music coming from my computer, yet I hadn't searched for it--nor clicked on it--& it won't stop!!! Worse, it's boring, & even worse, it's a tape loop which seamlessly repeats every minute or so! For sanity's sake, I'm forced to mute my computer, & I can't hear anything else over it! Make it STOP, Mommy! What do I need to do to make it leave!? Haaaalp!!! It's very easy. It's probably a invisible pop-up or something like that. Suspend the computer just for some seconds and then turn it on again. Solved. You will never have to listen to that song again. If not, shut it down and then turn it on again or look for some minimized software or tab that is open that has a mini radio or something that has a type of weird audio. Hope I helped :)

Hmmm. That might work, at that. But I can't shut it down just at this moment; my comp guru's making me keep it on so she can work on it long distance, & has requested that I wait 'til she's through. I hate to saddle her with this problem, too, or I would let her handle it, but she's helping me for free in her spare time, so it'd be rude to pile on, right? Never-the-less, it does sound like a good idea, & as soon as I'm "allowed," I'll try it! Thank you! If that doesn't work, do a system restore.

I tried to fix it, next up, bookmarking every tab she has open and then shutting them down, one by one!

I had to restart my computer to get them to stop. Nothing was visible to close out.

I'd probably put them in their own folder and when I found the guilty one, reopen them... may take some time...

Well, okaaaay, but can you put them all in a separate folder so I don't hafta look all over to find them, please? I really appreciate your help! Maggiepie "The most dangerous of all falsehoods is a slightly distorted truth." ~ Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, scientist, philosopher 1742-1799

I would close everything out and restart your computer first to see if it goes away. If not, I would do a system restore and restore your computer back to a day when you did not have the problem.

Guess what--the computer did it all by itself! Last night, while I slept, it shut itself down & rebooted--hey, PRESTO! No more boring tape loop! Of course, Elic had to go in & find my tabs again, & got all the really important ones back. Meanwhile another bit of music started, but it was at least good music, & anyway she found the source & killed it. (It was the music from a well-known video of a gray kitten attacking 2 green apples on a bed, & it is hilarious!) Thus far, things are doing fine. Thanks for your suggestion! The problem has gone away! I think the computer got sick of the stupid music, too! It shut itself down & rebooted! (Elic thinks the computer just had an update to take care of, because her own comp did the same thing...but I know my computer is alive...heh, heh...) how about using the task manager which allows you to see all programs running at that time? by this time, i hope you already solved your simple problem.

NIELDC: I did, but could find nothing which explained how to find & stop the tape loop. (I did say I was a non-techie...) But yes, thank you, the problem has been eliminated!
