I have a feeling that my country, Malaysia have too many public holidays. Having some is good, but having too many of it is NOT good at all. I feel the government has implemented too many holidays for the current years and it's increasing. How about your country? How many holidays do they have?

i think my country(Nepal) belongs to one of the countries having highest public holidays. There are around 36-40 public holidays.more over we have public holiday on every Saturday so counting every Saturday as public holiday there will be total of 52+40=92 public holidays.Thats official but there are many unofficial holidays as well.On our greatest festival like Dashain, the government has allocated around 6-7days as public holidays but every school and colleges gives more than 12 days holiday. So its quite fun to enjoy lot of public holidays.

In Denmark most of our public holidays are related to christianity like christmas, easter, whitsun and ascension day. We also have a holiday called "The day for prayers" In the past we had many "days for prayers" and at one point someone decided to abolish most of the those days so that there was just one day for prayers. That day still exist as our "day for prayers". Today few people pray on that day, but the name still remains. Constitution day is another holiday that we have, but that holiday is a bit unusual because some people have to work all day, some people have the aftennoon off and some people don't work at all.

Hi sis!!(^^) It is actually not but when we combine the public holiday for national and state level, the weekends, employee annual leave then yes it is..Anyway if you think that you don't need them then I suggest you to have part time job every time there are public holidays..(^^)

Hello! I am living in Hong Kong, I don't know how many public holidays you have in Malaysia, but I have just looked at the calendar and tried to count how many public holidays we have here in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, every Sunday is counted as public holiday. In addition to that, we have public holidays for both traditional Chinese festivals (like mid-autume festival and Chinese new year) and Western festivals (like the Easter and the Christmas), so in 2011 we have 69 days public holidays in total including all Sundays. I am not sure what you meant by "too many", and I am wondering whether we have more public holidays compare with you guys? If so I feel very embarrassed and a little bit guilty as it seems that we are lazy to work. If you count in the Country level, in China, it seems that they only have 29 days as public holidays this year as announced by the Chinese government. But since we are having totally different systems and practices, I am not sure about that.

Hi there! Nice to meet someone from HK. Arent' the HK people the most hard-working on earth? lol. Well, they have many Chinese events and traditions which celebrated by most of the people there and the majority of Chinese, I believed put alot of emphasize on events like e.g. Mid Autumn Festival, so that's one of the reason why you guys have it as public holidays. But for Chinese like myself, living in Malaysia, we don't have it as public holiday, but we are still celebrating it. :)

We had 12 holidays in a year, but that had been changed due to implementation of anew constitution in my country. I think things will change now.

In the US, we have at least a holiday per month. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Eve Year, Martin Luther King's day, Presidents day, Black month, Easter, Mother's day, Memorial day, Father's day, Juneteen, Fourth of July, Veterans day, labor day, Chicano day, Columbus day, etc.

I know there are two which change days each year, Christmas and New Years, Thanksgiving comes on the third thursday of November and the rest are usually on a Monday allowing us to have a 3 day week end. We average one of these each month that we don't have the fixed holidays.

I think the European and Western countries have longer holidays. I have heard they spent like 1 month OFF from work to travel and vacationing to asia. Is that TRUE??? :)

There are many holidays here in America. Now if you mean just holidays from the country, well here in America we have, Memorial day, 4th of July, Labor day, Presidents day, Martin Luther King day, Thanksgiving and New Years. Then those religious holidays, and thats where it gets rough, There are many different religions here in America, so aside from Christmas and Easter, there are lots of Jewish holidays and Muslim holidays and so on. It is getting hard to keep up with things these days.

Hi jacklintan. We are neighbours, I live in Singapore. Every year we have a total of fifteen number of holidays in our calender. Because we have a few categorized races in our country, each race contribute two holidays for the year. The remaining number of holidays we have are general public holidays. Examples are New Year and National Day. Therefore each year I could only expect fifteen number of public holidays in my country.

I know Singapore have fewer holidays compared to other asian countries nearby. Sometimes, I wonder how my friends working in S'pore can rest and come back to Malaysia for few days of holidays, especially during CNY, they hardly a week OFF spent with their family. Ewwww~~
