I have had that little knawy feeling in my ears ever since I started using linux and it's been the same, windows is more secure, windows is better than linux. Everytime I switch back to windows, I hate it because my programs aren't in the tacklebox right. Every program i install from linux hits right into the slots that they are supposed to, the distros work out perfectly with me because there is just the right stuff to run everything i need and i don't have to worry myself to sleep over it....

Yes linux is a lot more secure than windows but that is because the bad people don`t have an interest in linux yet because of the limited number of people using it.If 70% of people will use linux and only 2% will use windows then windows will be much safer and it will be free...and you`ll have to pay for linux :)

I have been having a great time on the gimp, the gimp can manipulate photographs just like photoshop but it's free to use and easy to give to a buddy without ever worrying about a code to buy or etc. :) I just wish they had it for android on readers and other devices.

as a free download, i would say that linux isn't as secure as windows.. but if you have a good security system on your computer, and you prefer linux, then you shouldn't really have a problem?

I use a system that's commercially supported and also dell computers sell the same system on the distribution. Windows does have alot of great support features but it's so slow on older computers. :) Nice hearing from you my friend and hope you are doing ok!

Actually I agree, that’s my only flaw about windows.. that it can run really slow on older computers! .. which is disappointing because I have some fantastic older computers that run really slow, which is a shame because they have really good hardware in them!

I have never tried Linux before. I have always used Windows. I think Windows is very secure but I heard Linux is great also.

It's good, and I would recommend it to a student or home computer user, it's fun to use and takes less time to load than windows.

I could not give a precise answer, because the only thing I know is that Linux can be downloaded and installed free of charge to 100%. Does not exclude the fact that it is free of defects.

True my friend but it uses all it's own software in repository which can be downloaded right from the server

i'd rather pay for known quality, than get something for free but.. i always think theres ALWAYS a glitch with something you get for free.. don't know why.

The only reason I think people are saying that Linux is more secure than Windows, is because we really don't hear news of Linux being exploited. Windows, on the other hand, is always the target of hackers and exploiters because it is the most widely used OS in the world. But one thing I like with Linux is that, by default, you are given a non-admin account, whereas on Windows, your default account is an admin one.

i change around from ubuntu sometimes to vector, eventhough both are commercially supported, I like ubuntu more. Vector is more secure because the fact it has the distro also uses a firewall too. The software though on both guis are really slick and fast...debian is slower than slackware though any slackware based software is super fast.

..we already knew that linux/ubunto are only eh free software..yup this is secure program because all viruses made by xp/vista/7, can't recognize by linux/ubonto and it is correct software like this can't easily trap by viruses,,but if viruses made in this program maybe it can interred.i think no I.T or programmers doing instant viruses made software by linux.. that's only my idea.

I think security should be in the networks that we use. There are IT and Computer professionals that can fix major leaks in websites that lack that one thing. If you'll read the tons of people that have hacked someone's password from a site, I think that speaks for itself.
