Do You Need Coffee to Survive?

I am asking this question because I have realised over the past few years how it has become 'cool' to drink coffee. There are coffee houses everywhere and people carrying those fancy coffee cups with them all over the place.
But then it seems many have become so addicted to coffee it is like they can not function without it. They have to drink coffee in the morning, in the day at night, etc, etc. They have become addicted to it as if they can not survive without it.
But I have noticed also they tend to get a bit agitated easily, almost like people who smoke. Do you think there is a problem here? Are you addicted to coffee that bad too and can not do without it? Or do you just enjoy it as any other beverage and it has no effect on your life.

I do enjoy a good cup of coffee and it does not have to be just for breakfast anymore. I do want it to be decaf and a good Colombian blend. Some of the coffees out there are just floor sweepings to my taste so I don't get many from eating places and coffee shops at the mall and places like that. I must brew my own.
I do enjoy also a good cup of green or black tea as well.

I have tried the Chinese green tea by Timothy and can't say that it is at the top of my list. I do enjoy a decaf green tea blend by Celestial Seasons. They also have a good black English black tea, also decaf that we enjoy.

Coffee to survive? A caffeine addict?
I love the smell of coffee, but I drink very little coffee. I can go months without sipping coffee, though I may have the smell of coffee around me. I mostly use coffee as fragrance in my refrigerator or, at times, in air filter.

Absolutely! I drink half a pot to a full pot of coffee a day almost every day. but then I don't drink soda anymore either. I used to drink a lot of soda but I switched. I think coffee is better for me than the soda was.

well its only 4 to 6 cups really, and I drink water the rest of the time. Before I was probably drinking about 4 cans of soda a day on average, which was a lot, and way worse than drinking even a full pot of coffee a day would be.

I like an occasional coffee. I don't usually have one because I am not up in the morning. I stay up late so I don't have a morning. I drink Dr.Pepper for a pick me up during the day. I do love a Latte and I get a 'Milky Way' when I go out somewhere. Have to stop at Moxie Java for a cup of joe. I am addicted to those.

Yes, basically a Milky Way is a carmel mocha latte.

For the longest time, I was never a coffee drinker. I like the smell of it in coffee shops, but I always take my caffeine from Diet Coke.
Early this year, I started out drinking coffee because I found out that my Diet Coke couldn't keep me up straight after lunch anymore. I would always be yawning, and getting all sleepy in the afternoon.
So yes, I do need coffee now to survive.

Well, I really can't say if I'm addicted to it. I drink coffee 3-6 times a day. I love purchasing them from various coffee shops but then, I can live a day without coffee but as much as possible, I drink at least 1 cup per day (at a minimum). I just drink coffee for the pure enjoyment of it. But there are times when I feel something's missing if I don't have at least one cup of coffee :D
As per your observation about coffee being the "in" thing today, that is just so true. I remember there are times when my friends and I passed by a Starbucks shop and though there are free seats inside, people rather sit outside while enjoying a small cap of frappe, their legs crossed and chatting merrily :P These past few years, coffee somewhat became a status symbol of some sort.

You are not too addicted to it although you drink it a lot. I think you nailed it on the head when you said coffee from coffee shops are now a status symbol. I see people put the fancy coffee cups on their desks and hold it with them when they move around.

So true. Well, as long as people enjoy themselves, let them do whatever they want with coffees. Lol! It's just amazing that the coffee boom really hit people big time. Tea shops are slowly emerging along side the coffee boom these days, who knows, maybe next year the next "in" thing would be teas :P

No, I definitely don't need coffee to survive! I rather drink tea or a hot chocolate if it's winter, but I think walking around with those fancy coffee cups is just a way of showing off and I don't need to do that! It is just a fashion which will soon give way to the next fashionable thing!

You are really into coffee. You must have got addicted to it. There is a response above where someone says they think the next fashion statement would be tea because tea houses are springing up these days. And there are fancy teas like green tea, red tea and the likes. I have a colleague who spends the whole day drinking green tea. So I guess there is already some kind of market for fashionable tea.

I love drinking coffee but I only drink when going out with my friends. They may be delicious but I'll tell it is expensive. Even the cheaper ones. Therefore, it is not practical for me to buy coffee all the time since the price of one coffee is one meal already. I'd rather choose to buy for something to eat instead.

True. Actually there are free coffee in my office but I think drinking water or milk is healthier that's why I choose to drink the latter.

Gosh, I am afraid that I am also addicted to coffee myself too, since I have to drink it everyday morning, it is like a habit already. I think I can survive without it, I can switch to green tea anytime I want, have my fingers crossed that will work for substitute of coffee. Actually, everyday morning, I can have a glass of water for my breakfast before I head out for work. But while at work, I must have a cup of coffee though.

Drinking coffee certainly seems to affect the body chemically and get the blood moving. There is a pyschologically element about it too. The body seems to think it has to have it after a while. On the days I don't have it, I feel that I am suppose to feel sluggish. I had to avoid coffee for a week or so to reduce the acid reflux I had. It was almost making me sick, just because I was having it on an empty stomach. When I cut it out of my morning routine, I found other alternatives to coffee and found out that I had just as much energy. I guess some of it is mind over matter.

I am an average coffee drinker, I do get agitated easily, and I tend to be jumpy even with slight movement or sound. I abstained from drinking caffeine drinks when I had hyperacidity, before. When I got better, I found that I can no longer last a day without having at least two cups of coffee. To date, I can drink a total of 6 caffeine drinks, so I can say I am a caffeine addict but not coffee addict alone.

I don't need coffee, and I don't understand why so many other people feel as though it is something that they have to have in their systems every day. If we simply made the effort to organise our days so that we could have enough sleep to prepare us for the next day, then we would not need to drink things to give us the energy to get through the day. If you need a cup of coffee every so often then that's okay, but I don't think that anybody should ever get to the point where they're relying on it to get through the day.

I do love the taste of coffees but I am not addicted to them. I drink them once in a while when I feel like it. But yes I have noticed people these days are so into coffees and they say they can't get through their day with their number of coffees. I have this friend and he is always drinking coffee. I have no idea how he gets his sleep. Coz for me, one cup of coffee in the evening and I cannot go to sleep
Anything done over the limit is a problem and I feel drinking too much coffee is being a problem for some people.

if I need coffee sometimes other times not.
I like to drink coffee at 10:00 and sometimes drink coffee when it hurts an awful lot of head.
depends on how much time I have verem and whether you drink it in peace because I hate to drink coffee like water fast I want to drink safely and enjoy it.

I do have noticed noticed how nice it has become to go around the streets holding a cup of starbucks coffee. I use to drink some when I know I'm going to stay up all the night. But I don't drink it all the time, because it doesn't allow me to sleep in then night :( and it looks so freaky
