There are many interesting places to go to on the internet but none more interesting and more accessed by the masses world wide. There are many concerns about facebook that has recently surfaced, such as ideas that it is a data mining front and that it's privacy issues do not really protect individuals from snooping eyes/computers.
This has led many to cancel their accounts, which is really not what happens. Many still don't know that accounts are not cancelled completely instead they are just disabled. There is a way though to permanently delete a facebook account as provided by facebook, but this is still doubtful.
With all the controversy surrounding facebook I am curious as to how many people have cancelled/deleted their accounts. I'm sure there are probably as many doing so as there are joining or rejoining. What is your story or opinion of social networks in general?

I think that Facebook is something that started out interesting but there are just many concerns about Facebook that are rising up now more than ever. From the people that are using it, to the actual people behind Facebook. I think that there are many people these days who are quite frankly regretting even getting on Facebook these days, due to the fact that they find their privacy has decreased.
I think that a lot of people have really had lives ruined based upon Facebook. And given the nature of the Internet, I'm not rather surprised that said Facebook accounts are not completely gone. I think that makes more than a few people are nervous. I think a lot of people are slowly stepping away from Facebook. It will be around for a while, something like that always is but it is going to be of less quality for sure.

I guess it was like everything that is new. Everyone gets excited about a new store or shopping venue and everyone revels of its addition to the community. Time does change things and eventually it becomes an eyesore and a source of complaints.
Such is the case with facebook. Tolerence to it's privacy issues has not been diminished though they provide features that allow limiting access to certain groups, but leave you open to others you would not want to know about you through apps that you may enjoy using. Thus unwanted discovery by people through random searches. This is the main issue I have concern with.

I really don't like FaceBook. The only reason I use it, is because that is the only way I have to keep in contact with some of my family and friends.
FaceBook messes up daily, and it gets aggravating. For example: at least once everyday, whenever I send a message or IM, it never goes through! Also, I am constantly having to log out, and log back in to make something work properly. Plus, you have all those stupid apps and app invites, automatic spam messages sent to your inbox/IM and statuses, etc. Ahh! It's just a big mess!
The only other "social networking" site I have been on other than FaceBook and myLot is Myspace, and I absolutely hate MySpace! It's way too slow!
I LOVE myLot, and I think it's the best discussion/social-networking/forum site on the internet!

I can understand your feelings. facebook can be annoying at times especially with some of the aggravations you speak of. I know many have mixed emotions and have decided to limit it's use because of the reasons you enumerate. I sometimes wonder what would happen if everyone decided to close their accounts all at once....OUCH!

Hello globalwide,
I don't think that facebook did anything wrong for society. It brought us a very simple and efficient way to communicate with others and get others update very easily. Now every mobile comes with an application of facebook that also help to link us.Besides There is two way of removing account from facebook.
One is just deactivate your account, which can be activate any time by just a simple login. While in the period of deactivation, no one can search you or see your profile page.Every entry of yours will be deleted.
Now other option is to remove your account that requires seven days deactivation in which period you can change your decision to not remove your account.
As I think it is very to communicate with friends here.
