Last night I watched a movie called Sanctum and it is based on the true story. I have to say that this is a good movie and the story is quite unforgettable. I think sometimes people shall listen to the experienced explorer even if it seems quite horrible. Otherwise the unexperienced people shall not take a risk because it can be deadly.

I haven't seen this flick. Most true-to-life movies being released these days, I find them boring. I'd rather watch fictional films.

I've also seen The Blind Side and I also liked it because it's about football. The story was touching too.

I think I saw this movie. It was extra scarey for me because of my fear of the water. It would have been fine if not for the flash flood. The explorer had traveled the area before and knew where the way out was but it was closed by the flood. That would really be scarey.

I haven't seen the movie you mentioned but to answer the question in your title well it depends. It depends on how much poetic licence they use to translate a true story into a piece of entertainment and at the same time when it comes to biopics how much they have sanitized the person's life to eliminate anything negative. There are very few movies which are true to real life and even those which try hard to stick to the truth often have to switch things around in the order they happened in order for the story to work.
Having said that I do find movies based on true stories and real people more interesting because there is the educational element which often can be quite fascinating.

Those 3 are all very good but I know for a fact, having read the books which they are based upon, that both "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Catch Me if You Can" have a lot of poetic licence going on in telling the story. I would actually recommend for anyone who enjoyed "The Pusuit of Happyness" to read the book which it was adapted from as the movie only covers a very small part of a remarkable story.

I like your discussion on this movie. I have seen it awhile back.
I generally watch historical and period of time as I love to learn history and cultures.
A lot of times I not only watch a movie once but go back and actually look into the movie.
Paying more attention to details. Especially when its a true story.

Hi youless. I love biographies and movies that were based on true story. When it is made into a movie, usually it means that there is a lesson to be learnt from it. We get to see how someone go through their life. The ups and downs of life differs for different people. Because of that, what the person do to change their situation into something that is better for them is a good lesson for us. I personally agree that movies based on true story won't be bad. It gives a reflection to our own life.

i would agree that making a movie out of man's life would sure mean that the story is vbery nice, inspiring, etc... otheerwise, they would not have considered making it into a movie with a possible flop right?
but i guess somehow when a true story is made into a movie and it turned out really badly... that meant that the story was not given the justice it deserved, the story or the scriptwriter did a bad job! haha

youless,
Like real life, it is about survival everywhere.
As you can see, the elements can be unpredictable and yet brutal at the same time. So, we really need to be careful with what we do, where we are and go. Like the small team in this movie, struggling to find their way out - I cannot help feeling the same with our lives where we need to be quick witted and have our bearings or footings in times of crisis which is so crucial.
Aside from the dramatics, I really hope that we would be able to learn something about the will to survive here.

Hi youless,
Glad to meet you after a long time.
Actually, true movies are credible and are worth watching- simply because it's real and it's not just some cooked up stuff. But to decide whether it's interesting or not it depends upon whether the Direction and screenplay is handled the way it should be.
Also the movie's success depends upon the actor- especially true movies- they require actors with adequate skill, because its mostly emotions that form the base of true movies.
Happy mylotting!
Regards,
Ajith.

I haven't gone to the movies for a long time.I think the movie based on the true story is more infectious than one that is an out-and-out fabrication, because it is all real people and real events.I guess such kind of movie is certainly popular with young people.

well i think it depends on who is making the movie if you have a really good film company or person making the movie then i agree the movie wont be bad but if it is a low budget rushed film and if the people making the movie dont listen to the facts and change things to try to make the movie better then the movie will not be that great but you have to remember that people have different views and opinions of movies so a movie that you think is bad i may think is great i have heard of the movie called sanctum i wanted to see it but never got the chance to

Some of these movies "Based on a True Story" are sort of economical with the "True" Part, playing up the entertainment part instead..and then get dumped on for glossing over the truth.. The movie can be entertaining,so long as the "True" part wasn't your main reason for going..

I guess some of non-ficional movies are fabricated so that it may have a good storyline. That would be credits from the writer too. A little bit of reality mixed with creativity will eventually create a box office movie. i believe that there's more audience when it comes to true to life movies though.
