Why does my dog lie on his back?

My dog sometimes lie on his back, and I'm not sure why, I think maybe its like he was me to scratch his belly or what. Sometimes it seems that he is just playing by himself. Also after he has taken a bath, he would scratch his face on the floor and I would scratch his face but still it seems that he is still itchy.
But what really bothers me is when he lies on his back, is he just lying down to get more cool air on his belly, or wants to play or he is just comfortable with that position?
Any similar experiences?

My dog do that when my mother and I seated and watching TV. He do that for a little horseplay, I think he wants to play. My mother would always spank his back cause we entirely see his genital, lol.

Yeah I would sometimes scold him because all the people in the house can see his genitals, its funny but I was thinking if he wants to mate or something. Because he has not experience that before. We love our pet so much and wants to play with him always its just sometimes we dont have the time.

That's cute, male and female dog do that. I think that's their nature.

My Niece's dog goes nuts, welcoming Me each time I go to visit, and does this too once She settles down..She just wants to get her belly rubbed...I dunno if they'd stay in that position,though...

I tickle his belly sometimes and play with him but then he doesnt want his armpits to be touched. Maybe it tickles a lot and he gets mad when I touch that part, I wonder why? Also when he is taking a bath, he doesnt like the armpits to be touched so we had to put something in his mouth before he bites any of us while taking him to bath.

I am really surprised about this questions.
All dogs lay on their back. Sometimes they do that to play, other times they like you to scratch them or they just sleep that way because they like to lay down that way.
There is nothing wrong with it or to worry about.
Is your dog feeling itchy? Check between the hair if he has fleas or perhaps a skin problem!

Why are you surprised? We are in a forum and I want to know the mylotters experiences they have with their dogs. I assume that my dog wants to play, yeah I get that, but what if there is something more to it? I don't know. I scratch my dog's belly and he still stays on his back. As for fleas or any skin problem, he doesn't have any as of now.

My dog does that sometimes. I think he is just more comfortable that way. Plus when he thinks i am going to rub his belly he will do the same thing.

When a dog does that, he wants your attention .He wants you to play with him and also for you to scratch his belly. They like to be scratched on their bellies.
I do that by using my feet, and our dog like it.
