Shed project on hold - for this weekend...

For the last 5 weekends we've had the roomie's nephew over to work on the shed, one weekend it was only for 3 hours, but generally its been at least 8 and often both days. However, this last week the nephew had a pipe dropped on his foot (OUCH!) and it broke some bones... we told him he needed to take this weekend off and take care of his foot. He called and told us he was going to come anyway. A few hours later, tho, he called back and said his wife needed some time off from the kids so he wasn't coming and was going to stay home with the kids and stay off his foot. I am GLAD he decided to do this, it is worrisome that he wasn't going to take care of his foot. He also needs to take care of his kids because a stay at home mom with a sick kid can be pretty rough, so his taking over the kids for at least the day is a great thing. So, while I would love to finish up the shed project, I'm also glad that he is going to take care of his foot and his kids... What do you think? I think he's being a pretty good father here!

I am glad he took care of his foot, too. I know that getting the shed done is important, but the mom is important and being off that foot is really necessary.

I agree with you.He is really a good father and a husband that shows consideration for his wife. However he didn't take himself seriously. He have had his bones broken, but haven't taken care of it in time.Nobody can say for sure it is nothing serious.

He's 24 yrs old and a "tough guy" so he seems to think he'll "get over it" We keep telling him - "stay off the foot!" but... He broke at least 3 toes, maybe more... Gads! I know when you break 1 toe they tape it to the next one to immobilize it, how do they do 3!!!

Calling you back and letting you know he is taking the weekend off to help take care of his foot, plus take care of the sick kids is a great father. Because personally he needs to be there for his wife when needed, plus at the same time continue to take care of himself so he can be more use to everyone. I think overall this worked out to be the Best situation for all.

The baby wasn't sick this weekend any more than normal, or mom couldn't have had time off, when the baby is sick, she only wants mom, tho she does love her dad. But he's doing a good job of being a dad!

He is doing a good job being a father, but he's not going to be staying off the foot - I think we are doing good to keep him off of it mostly this weekend...

I agree with you . Roomie's nephew had two good reasons to take a breather from working on your shed.

Good for him! Learning to care for yourself can be hard, especially for a parent. Sometimes we think we have to make every sacrifice possible for our kids. I am glad that he is taking care of his foot. Good Dad indeed :)

He's really doing a good job for someone who had such lousy parenting himself.

Yeah. I think it was nice of him to do that for his wife. I think it was nice of you also to let him take a break and get his foot healed.

we tried to get him to take the weekend off before he decided he had to stay home with the kids - I think his wife is as much taking the time as making him stay home and off his foot...

not the whole foot, just a few toes, but he still needs to take care of them - but mom needs some time off and Lane is pretty well behaved and Lilly isn't walking yet

Hi ya ElicBxn Oh he has definately made the right choice. You're shed can wait another week while he rests and spend some time with his family and help his wife. I am a single mom of 3 boys and would appreciate a helping hand from time to time so I can certainly understand your nephew's wife wanting some extra help especially if one of the kids are sick. I hope they are all well again soon X

Yeah, I've know some single parents, so I hear ya. She's a good mom, but they are both young and have a lot of pressure because they are young (and broke) parents.

I think it is a great thing too. Mom needs a day off sometimes and if we don't take care of ourselves..we just pay for it later. Maybe you are getting a much needed break from that shed too..lol.

of course I woke up about 7 a.m. this morning, so I might be getting out there and doing a bit while its cool... Nothing serious, I can't do serious, but sweeping, putting the plastic feet on the new shelves and putting them in place (can't screw them into the wall.) Of course, I will have to get dressed and put my shoes on, my feet are really hurting today

It is good of him to take over for his wife. He should also give his foot a rest, but with kids he might not get much rest anyway. Did he ever go to a doctor? I don't think they can do much for broken toes, but at least he would know for sure. Did you get a lot of flooding from the hurricane? I heard your area in Texas was hit hard, and you haven't been on here as much and I thought maybe that was why.

He is a wonderful father. Just like moms at times, we do not take care of us but will in an instant tend to the children. Same as Dad here, he was willing to come and work anyways hurt foot or not but when it comes to the kids, he instantly dropped everything to make them the priority. Great Daddy! Five weeks already wow, this project will be done some time soon.

It is really getting close, I hope to soon drag some of the other furniture out there and start sorting books!
