I didn't think I would sell a thing. Mainly because of the economy and because I wasn't really prepared. When I set up on thursday night I didn't have alot left from the last craft sale and I made very little for this one.....but what I did make have already sold the first day! I came home last night and was up until midnight making some things to take today. Are any of you signed up for craft sales during the fall and holiday season? Are you really prepared with plenty of product on hand?

This weekend is a big Fall Festival, and there will be a lot of crafts for sale. We will usually buy a few things.. pillows, grocery bag holders.. last year I bought a reversable head band for my daughter. I can't wait to see what new stuff they'll have out this year. Just wish the kids would start behaving.. they did not do their chores yesterday which was one of the conditions of them going to the festival.

Don't set conditions that will punish you if they are not met. If you really want to go to the festival, do not use that as leverage on the kids because it makes it harder on you than on them.

I know.. and sadly it's something I do all the time, because I hope the threat of not doing something they want will work to make them behave.. and of course it doesn't.

This is the first year in several that I have not done them with my dad. Mostly because I am back to work full time. We sell stained glass sun catchers. Dad is retired, and I just like the process of taking pieces and getting a picture. The fall craft sales were always very successful. We would make very simple snowmen, leaves, pumpkins, turkeys, santa claus's, and snowflakes. Most were very similar. We always made a profit, and enough to fund our next big excursion to the stained glass shop. Hope that they continue to be a success.

Hmmm, sounds like a lesson learned, even if one show you do poorly, make sure you have enough for some good sales, you never know when they will hit..
I still don't have a job, or a full time job, but I am now doing light house cleaning once a week which has put my personal finances more balanced, so if I could make it to a sale, I'd probably have money to spend..Too bad you are not closer... Maybe other people are also experiencing a more secure finances and are able to spend more..I suggest if that is the case, you better keep it up, with the holidays coming around the corner, you might get swamped, and I hope you do.. Besides, what you don't sell you give as gifts, right???
So CONGRATS on your sales, I really do hope you have more sales like this, this season..:)

We had a very good weekend. And after I go through my things I'll start all over again for the holiday craft show..I sold things though that I couldn't believe like six of my water bottle totes...with fall coming I didn't think I would sell any...but they went well. Sold just a ton of cards! I had to stay up on Friday night and make a few things then this morning before I went I had to make more cards.....so tonight I am beat!

I am beat tonight as well because we went to the Pork Festival, (I don't go for the pork though, just the crafts) and had a great time..

What kind of crafts do you make and where do you sell them? Even though Christmas is far away yet, I suppose that you must be prepared to sell your crafts when the time comes. Tell us about it, please.

And where do you sell them? Is it to friends or do you have a place to sell them? Post a picture of some of your crafts

I love going to craft sales and seeing all the beautiful craft stuff people make. My old church has one every year in December and it is awesome.

I have never picked one thing and stuck to it. I have a bunch of hats my sister has crocheted and I have said I would sell them on etsy or at a sale for her. She does not get out. I would need more than these hats, though.

I hope to do a craft sale next year, as right now I'm to busy. Its a good way to earn some money and I have sold knitted items in the past. Glad to hear you did well.

Congratulations...jillhill! Yes, here, too..the economic slowdown has bit into the craft sales, and the biggest seller here seems to be food stuff..home canning, etc. I have standard orders for sets of "pergamano" cards, that I prepare each year but other than that, I have not made my crafts a priority (which is wrong, as I have the product on hand,) I have been concentrating on downsizing..and getting my house in order...and that is a big task after 32 years in the same place..! Wishing you continued success on future sales. Cheers

Congratulations Jill on selling so much on the first day, wonderful for you. We may be in a recession but people I think are supporting crafts and stall events more, I do not craft but have found that my ebay sales for second hand clothes have increased rather than people buying new. huggles. I wish I was creative enough because I'd most definitely love to be set up for a few craft sales and sell a few items every year. My mom was crafty, but I'm just not as crafty. I guess if I set my mind to it, and found something I loved to do then I would be, I'v not yet found that yet.

I've never been into crafts, except as an admirer, so. of course, I have nothing to sell. But I do see a lot of crafts without specifically attending crafts shows. We have a lot of local festivals in my small town, and most of those with crafts to sell get booths to exhibit at those festivals. It's amazing what unique items are made. I have featured a lot of them in my local lenses on Squidoo.
Some of the most prolific craftsmen exhbit in the new craft exhibit room at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles. A silversmith is the anchor. He used to share a studio with the founder of this art showplace, but now the craftsmen have their own area. Other craftsmen are roving vendors who exhibit at one or two farmers markets in the area. So we have lots of ways those who do crafts can connect with customers or a regular basis. The people in the community who have interest can know where to easily see the crafts when they are ready to buy.

Personally I would Love to do one. I have never tried just selling the items I crochet except to others where I work. I have showed them at some of the other events I have done along with the Jerky from my Jerky business, but never alone. I know I would feel Bad if I knew what was stopping me from being able to earn anything was the amount of things I only had for sale. But I really want to try a couple just to see.

That's great. Love to hear about successful craft sales at craft fairs. I haven't done one for about 4 years. There were 3 of us who had a space and each time one of my items sold, one of the so called friends with me would get angry. Really turned me off and I quit going with them. It was a miserable time...lol I have plenty of Christmas items already finished but really no place I want to sell them. The weekend Christmas fairs are expensive in our area and really not profitable for me to attend and try to sell.

My crafts are cute but not something everyone wants or uses. But I did have a couple of real good days and the friend, who is no longer, was really hot under the collar. Made me so uncomfortable and I ended up leaving early. Couldn't take it any longer.

Hi Jill!
That's great! Looks like a lot of people there are already preparing for the holiday season.
I don't really make things that I can sell but lately, I have been thinking of some business where I can earn extra money from. I have thought of making Christmas cards and tags and all that which I can sell in our computer shop. I just can't get right into it because I still have too much things on my mind right now, my studies for example. But I'm planning to make this full blown during the semestral break.
Good luck with your craft sale!

Hiya Jill,
See how things came out great for you after all. This is late in getting to you but I imagine you probably had some good Sales and I hope you did.
I donĀ“t do Crafts like you do Jill but I enjoy reading about what you do put together and those ideas.
I have the idea to use your idea about those old sports jumpers for those awful pillows that you cannot sleep on to turn them into Cushions lol.
First of all though I have to find a decent Pillow will have to sleep on that one I guess.
As soon as I find a decent pillow that does not slide all over the place all those awful ones are going.xxx

Hiya Jill,
Just hope so. So far I have not found any good Pillows round here will take time I can tell you that.
They are far too cheap or far to expensive there is no middle line. Even where they sell Beds and things the Pillows are not good quality any more.
Maybe and I think that I will have to find it all by word of mouth it seems.
Nearest big City is Zaragoza have not gone there for a long while so maybe there could be a good Shop there.xxx

I've applied to my first major arts and crafts show which will be in early November if I'm accepted. I had to send in photos of me actually doing the work, works in progress (at least 50% complete), and photos of the end product. At this show staff members go around making sure that everyone has only the items they indicated with their application and photos. This is to ensure that everything is handmade by the vendor, and it keeps the show at the "high-end". I'm working steadily to make sure that I have enough product ready to sell at this one.
I'm glad to know you did well at your own recent show. I hope I can do the same!
