Mylotters! Is there any place or country on earth that you never want or even feel like visiting during your life time, do you have such a place in your mind right now that no matter what's happening, you will never thinking of setting your foot on the land/ country. For me, Antarctic is like a forbiden city to me, i don't think i will ever want to go there for a visit if possible because i just don't like the extreme cold temperature with chilling wind and the isolation of its location, it just make me feel loney, creepy and depress. How about you??

At the moment I have a tourist brochure that I am reading up about South America. Funnily enough there are three different choices of trip to Antarctica 10 days for £3685, 12 days for £4708 and 19 days for £6723. Due to not being able to afford these prices and it not being a destination for independent travelers I am sure I won't ever go there. It is way too cold for my liking although I do enjoy seeing penguins. I would prefer to go to Churchill in Canada to see polar bears. I wouldn't go to a war zone but in the future it could become safe there. Like in 2003 I went to Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia. At the moment I would not want to visit Nigeria, Iraq, Pakistan or Afghanistan.

Coming from the states, I would be driving through the worst of it. I would probably use the trip to visit my inlaw in Tuscon Arizona as my way to visit mexico. I am definitely going to wait a few more years, until it is a bit more stable.

Antarctica! Actually after seeing the movie Eight Below, I very much want to go there and experience the thrill of being always on the edge! Even though it is utterly desolate with chilling temperatures well below zero, there is still an amazing kind of beauty I can see in that place. I think, that would also be the test of what I am capable of enduring, physically as well as emotionally. But then it is so expensive, I wonder whether I will be able to visit Antarctica ever.

I'm glad you get to see the beauty of it even though it is desolate with chilling temperature, it can be a challenge and thrill for some people while it definitely is not for me. I am fine just to stay put in a warmer place instead of a coldest place like Antartica, if you have a will, i am sure you will get a chance to visit Antartica in some point of your life. Be patient , my friend!

I understand your sentiments lampar. It is just something about having an inclination towards something. Also there is a beauty in each and everything that has been created by Mother Nature, but we should have it in our hearts to like it. Like Antarctica, a desert too is very beautiful if you with its ever changing and shifting dunes of sands with the colors changing with changing rays of sun, but I will never find it in my heart to set foot there ever! Yeah, and I am keeping hopes that I may visit the places I like, including Antarctica!

I don't fancy going to Antarctica as well or anywhere that's too cold. Having lived all my life in a tropical country, I don't think I would do well in sub-zero temperatures, even with all the right gear. Heck, I feel so cold at 22 degrees celsius and I sleep with a thick blanket. We are normally at 32 degrees in my country. I like travelling since I live in an archipelago with thousands of islands and I often say I would travel all over the Philippines but there are certain provinces I don't want to go to since those places are where the Muslim rebels are. Skirmishes between them and the government troops are not uncommon. Peace talks between the government and these militant groups have been going on since forever, and we don't see the rift being solved soon.

I suddenly imagined being on a cruise ship around Antarctica. Over there, there's ice! Over here, there's ice! Oh a massive ice berg! I'm certain they look beautiful but after a while all the whites and the blues will look kind of dull. And there's something about extreme cold that depresses people. I don't see Antarctica being a major toursit spot soon since going there is really costly.

Right, Kat... Antarctica is way too cold for me too, not even mention it will cost quite a bit too if you plan to go with the cruise ship or adventure tour guide. I am like you , below sub-zero temperature will make extremely uncomfortable, i will not feel well either. I doubt the fight between islamic rebel and your government is going to end any time soon, they had been fighting and talking peace for decade already, it is still going on with no end in sight.

Of course it is costly, thinking of all these risks and long distance the ship or air plane need to go through and the maintainence need to put into them to allow such a trecherous journey to be safe. Even the insurance the company need to buy insure on all these tourists in their cruise ship can be very high going to such a remote spot on earth.

I endorse your view.Antarctica will be cold and isolated with nothing to see or keep you in a holiday mood while you are in vacation.Cold is alright but to be so far removed from cities means we will feel despondent and lonely. It is good for the scientific community to make experiments but the rest of who would like to sight see, experiment and shop will find it disappointing.

Yes, Scientist is exploring the area with zest, especially the weather researcher looking for the root cause of the increasing pace of melting glacier and iceberg in polar region. At least they can keep themselves busy every day in such a desolate place, while still learning one day at a time.

Actually, i want to see the whole world. Currently, my husband and I are saving our pennies so we can see Italy. I love the architecture and my husband loves the history. Also, I was raised Catholic so seeing the vatican would be interesting for me. If we were ever to travel to New Zeland, we do have some friends that live there, we would take the boat ride down to Antarctica just to say that we were there. I have already been to Asia, Europe, and Africa. I live in the US so that is north America covered.

Removing them all will take a long, long time, the villagers are already trying to do that, but it is a tedious and difficult task to do, they can only do it in very slow manner to avoid getting kill by accidentally trigger the device switch. Without using more advance technique and tool, the dismantling of mine bombs is an extremely dangerous job, over the year, many villagers already got blown into pieces while searching for these land mines left over from the war. It is such a su*k work for anyone to do in Loas, Vietnam or Cambodia.

That is right, too many to count in Cambodia, Vietnam and Loas. Those are buried during the war. But if step on one in the village field, you are done. That is it for you, you can never get to visit another country for the rest of your life even you don't have to die in many different pieces, the bomb can tear any of your organ like hand or limb apart.

I view the outside world as a jungle. Scary and dangerous. Others who have a thirst for adventure would probably love to be thrown anywhere!lol I'd probably have Top 5: 1. Anywhere icy 2. Amazon rainforest with snakes, crocs, everything 3. Places where there's war 4. Places with known cannibals 5. On an island in the middle of nowhere

I would have to agree with you about the Antarctic. Seems like a bad place to visit. I would like to see the northern lights but, you can go to Alaska for that. I don't like the cold at all so you would never see me in the Antarctic. I don't think I would want to visit the Amazon either. That is just because; all the crazy wildlife and the threat of disease.

Amazon will be a tough place to be, i assume, the jungle probably look appealling to some adventurers, who love to seek out the wildlife and whatever challenge nature can provide, may be even get a chance to come in close encounter with some flesh eating tribe men that can hunt you down like an animal as their play toy. lol!!
