Is it alright to EXERCISE at Night?

Hello Lotters,
I have been chatting with a friend for the past few days. Later I learned that she's been jogging every night and only eat less. though that was COOL i got worried because I was informed once that it could lead into different health complications. Like getting an ulcer or stomach problems.
But I was told that i should at least rest one hour after eating. some people can exercise after lunch or something. definitely something new for me, but seeing those people in the gym, I just wonder how they maintain meals and exercise.
My experience was merely to exercise every morning before meals.
What do you think? any advice regarding this issue.

Hello Stephcjh, Oh yeah that is one mistake that i missed before going for a jogging. I couldn't believe that i jog with out stretching first. No wonder i got my muscles tired already, just imagine the pain ache that i felt as i walk home. have a nice day.

I exercise mostly during the evenings but never at nights. But I do have a friend who exercises at night. She says she gets on her exercising bike whilst watching dramas. She does that for an hour everyday. And she also told me it helps her sleep better. I don't really think it is unhealthy and had never heard that could lead to ulcer or any health problems.

Hello thatgirl, Oh alright so i have to exercise in the evening and not at night or late in the morning. I will do her plan though, most specially when it comes to distracting myself from getting tired easily. I hope i can do this every time i exercise in the morning. have a nice day.

I use to be gone all day with school and work that when I get home I would exercise while studying my note cards. I noticed I lost weight and passed my classes.

Hello Amanda, wow, there's no way i can do something like that.for now, the only thing that can make me exercise is by the use of television and a DVD player to distract myself from getting tired. I hope and sure it would work some day if i get the chance. Have a nIce day.

Hi LK, according to my readings, morning exercise is the best because what better way to start your day than to start it with physical activity. I'm thinking that it'll make you less sluggish the entire day.
But night exercise is better than no exercise at all. I in fact prefer mid day or evening exercise than morning exercise.
The moment I wake up, I immediately feel hunger pangs which hinder me from delaying my breakfast. So I choose to exercise in the afternoon or at night.

And oh, no one gets ulcers if he eats at the right time of the day. And refrains from acidic food and drinks, among others.

I know people who exercise at night after work and before their dinner. They might have a light snack like an apple before going about their nightly exercise routine and do just fine. I am not a fan of this though as I seem to tire faster. Most people I know though and this is what works best for me, do better getting their exercise first thing in the morning.
I like to either do it first thing before eating anything, just drinking some water, or I like to do it a few hours after breakfast in the late morning and then have lunch straight after that. I feel the workout is better at that time of day as I have more energy during the exercise and then feel great for the rest of the day.

Hello Rawbill, there are times that i get tired after only 20 minute treadmill exercise. for some reason i am not comfortable staying longer because i get sick afterwards. but probably with a good amount of sleep i can manage to have longer time for exercise. Have a nice day

I remember the fitness trainer of Fitness First or I think that was a consultant told me that it is better to exercise in the morning rather than night, I forgot the explanation but I think it has something to do with metabolism. A person will be only having ulcer or stomach problems if he/she is not eating at all even if he/she is already hungry. Eating less could be alright.
According to the nutritionist in order for us to have a proper and balance diet we have to eat 5 to 6 times a day including fruits in order for us to increase our metabolism. Of course in 5 to 6 times it shouldn't have too much food intake or else that could be nothing. Aside from that after your workout it is also effective to eat fruits which is also recommended by nutritionist. Another thing that was was advised to me is that we have to drink milk 2 times a day. During breakfast and 2 hours before you sleep.
In my case when I was a member of Slimmers World for 1 year way back 2005, by the time that I have no idea regarding meals. Usually I eat too much every breakfast then during lunch and snack time I am only eating bread with any other food. I did this during my first job. Then I am making sure that I am not hungry before I am going to workout. After that it is either I am going to eat dinner or not as long as it is not too much.
When I was in fitness first already that is the time that I followed what the nutritionist have been recommended to me. There are times that I am already bringing a food inside the gym either I am going to eat before or after my workout.

Hello Metatronik, Oh, my GOD am so sorry i had a very very long comment for you but some how i copy paste the wrong comment. you see i do comment by using a notepad most of the time. The problem with what i have lately was because i didn't have balance on how to do it right, meaning i didn't have balance as to how I can manage to eat 3 times a day at a proper and exercise at a proper time. i feel sad that somehow my weight loss plan is going nowhere.. But i will follow some of the advised from your response. thank you.

seems that you were not talking to me.
Well in my case I can't exercise well if my stomach is empty. It depends upon you if you can tolerate it or not.

well, the general consensus is that exercising late makes it harder to sleep, but if she has no problem with that then she should be all right...
I've never heard of not exercising after eating... swimming, yes, exercising, no.
However, if you eat a meal, your body starts concentrating on digesting that meal and takes energy away from other parts of the body to work on that - so I'm not sure if its a great idea...
eating less, however, isn't bad, it is how you lose weight

Hello ElicBxn, No wonder my stomach felt crazy last night but i didn't poop, it's just that it felt heavy for some reason after the exercise. this reminds to exercise more in the morning rather than exercise at the evening. I will do this and i hope i can get a better loose of sweat and weight. not to mention a better work out.

if i where to jog, i will only do it early in the morning or after the office, before the sun sets. i don't think i will jog in the evening as we cannot tell the situation, you know, there are bad guys roaming and waiting for their victims in the corner of the street or at the dark side of the road.

Hello Neildc, I don't jog anymore and i obviously don't have the proper time frame. seriously i tried but i find treadmill exercise a lot better than jogging. some others may be good at jog but i couldn't. not only less exercise but also less sweat and more bone and muscle pain. i don't jog at night because i can't sweat and it's dangerous

Hi Letran Knight: I try my best to do some exercise in the morning because I think that's the best way to start my day but I have a commitment with my health and if I can't do this at least i will do some exercise at night. This will also help me, because it's also an activity that we are doing with our body and when I do this at night I feel more tired and ready to sleep

Hello Starsailover, Maybe i should start my exercise a lot earlier than what i have started this morning because its not early in the morning anymore when i started exercising. I don't want to exercise at night because my stomach gets so heavely a little bit. have a nice day

I think it is. I try stretching exercises at night when I don't get sleep easily. It makes me feel a little alert for quite sometime then I am sleeping like a log in the next few minutes. I don't know why my body responds this way. Perhaps it just needs an extra calorie burn before finally relaxing. However, the exercise might result in keeping you awake at night. So, try if it makes you more sleepy or more active.

I know some people who plays basketball at night. and I think that's similar to jogging. That's exercise too. I don't see any problem with this. Some people don't want to experience hotness.

Well for me, I would get home from school and the eat straight away so I'll have dinner at around 4 pm which I know is really early. After that, I would do homework and other stuff until it's around 7pm. Then I would exercise for about an hour. So I exercise at night, I jog for about an hour while listening to the radio. I've been doing this for a while now and I feel fit and great! I guess it depends on your daily routine, like if you work late or early.

Hello triple0, Oh, ok so, you don't get tired while doing home work and other chores? havent done this yet but probably nt because i have a treadmill and it can keep me distracted from getting tired easily if i had something that can make me disctract myself with. good luck to the both of us and i hope i loose weight too. Have a nice day.

Strict dieting to lose weight can welcome many health hazards . But day or night has no relation to exercising . If you have an empty stomach or just a light food inside you can exercise . That's what I learnt from doctors and medical journals .

Hello rollylolly, Okay so that means I really need to exercise but have to had food on my stomach right? I guess it was a huge mistake not taking any kind of food before breakfast. I know before that you need to exercise first before you eat and now i realize it as a big mistake. just want to say thankyou for that. have a nice day.

I think it is alright. After all, doing exercise is good for the health:) Today most people are busy with their work in daytime. And therefore, they can only do some exercises at night in their spare time. I have some friends who will go to swim or practise yoga at night after work. They say that it is a way for them to release the work pressure.
I love China

Hello Youless, I don't do yoga since i have gain weight lately. too bad as well because i can't go swimming either. I'd rather sweat rather than wetting myself in the pool with out guarantee of loosing pounds, or probably because I haven't experience it yet. have a nice day.

hi,
actually for me i always do exercise in the morning because it will give an energetic feelings for that day,but i have known people who do exercise in the evening sometimes after their work, and their reason is they could have good sleep for that night after they exercise.

My favorite time to exercise is when the sun is almost down so it doesn't get in my eyes. I like to walk, and I've heard it's healthy to get up and take a walk after a big meal instead of falling asleep. Probably heavy exercise is best before than after a big meal, though. For me, anytime I will actually do it is the best time to exercise.

Hello bagarad, I have heard that going to sleep after a huge meal can cause you nightmares. I am not sure if i can make a big exercise with out considering a proper time for diet and exercise in the morning instead. Have a Nice day.
