When movies are shown in television..

They are usually cut to accommodate commercials! And I hate it when they cut some parts of the movie and after the commercials, you'd be lost and you'll be asking yourself "what happened??!" This was what happened when I was watching a movie in a local tv channel a few hours ago. Although it was my first time to watch that movie, I really felt that some parts were missing. I could easily tell it. And what's annoying was that when that channel was not very popular yet, they used to air movies without cut and with less commercials. Now that they are a little popular, they cut the movies and air more commercials. That's just like betraying their viewers. Does this happen in your local channels?

Something a little similar happened here too. Here they show a movie every Friday night starting at 10pm, right before their news at 12am. In the past, after the midnight news, they would air the rest of the movie, wherever it was stopped before the news came on. But last Friday, they just cut the movie there and there was no continuation after the midnight news. So you would have no idea how the movie ended. I really don't understand why they didn't air the ending. It's bad enough that the movie gets cut and you're left in suspense during the 30 minutes of the news. But at least if you showed the rest of the movie afterwards, it's not so bad. But to cut the ending completely? Are we supposed to come up with our own ending?

Well, that's more annoying. I probably would not have been able to sleep if that happened to me. I hate it when I'm left with nothing. When I'm left with a cliffhanger. That's bad for the mood. Creating your own ending will not be helpful.

I know! I really have no idea what the tv station people are thinking. It's a good thing I've watched the movie before otherwise I would have been wondering what happened in the ending too.

I remember there was one movie I watched on DVD. It turned out the DVD was broken and it stopped playing when the movie was about to finish. I couldn't take the cliffhanger so I downloaded the movie just to know what happened in the end.

Does scenes get cut when showing in tv? I dun think so, secret So far it's doing fine over here, unless that particular movie has some scenes that are not suited for general viewing, only then the censorship board will cut it before showing on tv. If not, everything would be exactly the same like in the cinema. As u know, there are ratings for movies being shown, so maybe that's the reason for some editing?

Scenes get cut and they are not necessarily scenes not intended for general viewing.

then why cut it in the first place? To make time for commercial breaks? IF so, it can only mean the tv station is not doing a good job in fitting the right commercials in between, secret :O

The problem with commercials is that it is where the television stations make a lot of their money, the more popular the channel is the more commercials they will be offered the more they will charge. The fact that they cut bits out of movies is sometimes so that they can show movies that can only be shown after the watershed because a scene is too violent or too physical they edit out the scene and then show it for general viewing. The problem is that sometimes those scenes are the basis of the movie and the movie losses the structure without it. A few years back the commercial reached scary numbers. The one time I was watching a movie and it went into commercial break I decided to get a snack, made a sandwich and cup of coffee and still got back and had to wait. On more then one occasion, I would change channels and forget what I was watching only remembering when talking to friends the next day.

Yeah, the more commercials they air, the more money they earn. It's really annoying but all we can do is change channels.

Yes, because if they will not cut some parts they could not air the commercials which is the source of their income. Movies are only for ratings, they do not have importance to the value of the story but to the income they will be getting in inserting commercials. That is why it is so tiring to watch local channels when it comes to featuring movies. I sometimes cut the minute of the airing of movies, the airing of movies takes 3 minutes while the airing of commercials is five. Do you imagine how many parts of the movies are being cut because of this one. it is totally out of essence. Even cable channels of SKY CABLE which is owned by ABS-CBN have commercials. I am just like watching a local channel but I am paying it every month. I do not watch local channel because they are just fooling the viewers. I watched news though. Anyway, you can catch some of the movies at YOu Tube or download it for free in the internet.

Even sky cable channel air commercials? I thought cable channels are not supposed to have commercials? Well, not very many commercials anyway. I particularly do not watch movies at GMA 7 and ABS CBN. They air too many commercials within a movie. It's annoying especially if you are watching a horror movie. You cannot appreciate the horror because of the long gap made by the commercials. If TV5 becomes like these two channels, I will never watch a movie there again.

Yes and we the subscribers are paying not only for the movie but for the commercials. ABS-CBN is so greedy!

Yes, I really hate that too... But usually in our country when they show movies they just cut out the rated pg stuff since kids might accidentally watch it. But sometimes, especially when it's almost ending, they cut out some of the climax since they run out of time..

That's another stupid thing they do. I think it's better to cut scenes at the start of the movie, just not at the ending!

did you mean by cut is removing some of the scene? i know one TV station in my local channel who is doing that, and now i never watch that channel ever again. If they want to stuck some commercial between scene that's OK but i never really understand why did they cut some scene so a 3 hours movie can be just less than two hours. The local tv still have to pay royalty for airing that movie so why do they cut them? they can get more commercial by displaying full length of the movie... maybe there's a rules in TV that i don't know so they have to cut it to fit two hours timeline.

Yes, that's what I mean. I think they cut the movies because the timeslot for the movie is only two hours. I think it's ridiculous. It's either they lengthen the timeslot of they reduce the commercials so that viewers will not be annoyed.

I realize they have to pay for the airing somehow, but what I dislike most is that the commercials are MUCH louder than the regular programming (they say they aren't but I guess we all know they are, as in do they really think we are THAT stupid?) -- that is even more annoying than missing part of the movies.

i am not really fond of watching movies on local tv. yes because they cut portions of the movie that will make the story dull or something that will leave you clueless. and yes there are usually commercials that will also cut the thrill while watching the movies. i don't think it's betrayal to the viewers but they need the commercials to continue the operation of the tv channel.

I think it's betrayal because they don't give the interest of the viewers. What's important to them is only about gaining profit.

Yes..it does happen here. There are some movies that it doesn't really matter but there are those that it ruins. I have seen several movies a second time on regular TV and it wasn't the same at all.

I experiences that most of the time. I used to be fond of watching these movies every Sunday night. They will remove a scene and somehow you will feel its incomplete. That's why I don't watch movies shown in television anymore.

I love watching movies even in television and even if I have already watched that movie. Sometimes, it's just really annoying when they cut it. Still, I know I would still watch a movie in television.

erm i don't really know if that happens in our local channels coz when they show movies, they are non stop. There are no commercials in between and the movie feels pretty complete. Wow if the best parts are cut up, that'd be annoying!! But i don't think they cut off the good parts, do they?

We don't have a channel like that here. I wish we do!!! If we have I bet I'll be watching more tv than using computer. ^^ Well, they don't cut the very best parts, but they do cut important parts, like the reason for this or something.

That really happens in television. Now if you want the full version, watch movie directly in a theater. It would be unfair to those who paid for a ticket to let everybody see the full version in the television where they are only viewing it for free.

It will not be unfair. The movies are shown with commercials in tv. We pay electricity fee. So movies on tv are not free.

I dont bother watching movies on TV for this very reason. When I watch a movie I want to see the whole thing not just part of it. My husband tends to watch movies on TV all the time and I cant even get into it knowing they are gonna cut so much of the movie out.

I usually don't watch movies in tv, too. But once I get caught of a movie showing on tv, especially if it's a movie I like, I can't stop myself from watching it and enduring the commercials.
