I have always loved reading. From the time I was able to remember family stuff all of my family has read. I remember my dad and mom reading things to the family that they were reading--newspaper articles, magazine articles, etc. We would all sit around at night reading various books and when somebody found an interesting passage or paragraph, etc. they would share it with rest of the family. I had read most of the Zane Gray books by the time I started school. Has anyone else had the same experience with family reading, and do people still do this with their family?

Yes, my family has been almost the same. We'll have "read-ins" where we'll all have our own book and we'll all just sit in the same room and read. If one of us comes to something funny or profound then we'll read out loud. I'm the fastest reader in the family these days, I wind up passing on my favorite books to other family members for them to read. What I'd love to do sometime when I have a family of my own is to have a book and read passages from it, and pass it around between us. I haven't gotten my family to enjoy doing that yet, but I love it.

I love reading too, and I enjoying reading things with my family when I was growing up. I, too, was able to read before I went to school and was always ahead of the rest of my classmates because of that. I don't really read with my family any more, however I do exchange books with my Mother and when one of us has finished one, the other will pick it up and try to read it. I like to spread the word about books that I have enjoyed, as it means that other people will be able to get the same amount of enjoyment from them as I did.

reading is a good habit which must be incorporated right from childhood... a man gets good thoughts when he reads many books of wide ideas...
i usually read fictions, and wen i read books, i forget my world, my sorrows and get totally involved in the contents..
gives me peace of mind wen i read books!!

I think that reading is one of the most important things that anyone can learn to do during their childhoods. Reading means that people are able to understand the world and, more important than that, it means that they can immerse themselves into the most amazing worlds of fiction ever to be in existence. I love nothing more than to pick up a good book and to just not be able to put it down until I have completely finished reading the whole of it. I am proud of myself that I enjoy reading so much, as it is a wonderful hobby to be gifted with.

Reading is a fantastic pastime, one that is not only enjoyable but also very educational too. It is also something that doesn't have to cost a lot by sharing books or using a public library we have a wealth of information and excitement at our fingertips for nothing!

I love reading too and all of my family member does. And yes if we come across something interesting or funny, we share it with everyone.
I am into novels but not as much as I am into comic books and mangas. I absolutely love reading comic books and mangas, mainly because they look interesting with all their pictures and colours LOL i know it may sound childish but I think novels look really gloomy compared to them. Anyway but I know to each his own so yeah.

Like you I am also a bookworm. I love to read books. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I started reading when I was still in grade school. I think I was influenced by my elder brother and sister because they love reading books as well. My mother loves to read magazines and Reader's Digest. One time I was wondering what makes this so interesting for her so I browsed some of the pages and ever since I always look forward to my mother's monthly Reader's Digest.
Our family also shared our passion for reading. Now that I am a mother of two I am very happy that they are also showing interest in reading books. My eldest who is 13 years old likes reading novels. She likes the books of Dan Brown and Dean Koontz. My youngest who is 8 is also reading her books that she borrowed from their school library.
Before going to sleep we read our favorite books and we also shared with each other the things that we learned. Reading has lots of rewards and I am happy that they enjoy this experience with me.

I am one of those people who love to read may it be pocketbook or textbook during my school years. I am a hopeless romantic thus I have always turned to pocketbooks for romance galore. The authors I love are Sandra Brown and Danielle Steel. Reading books is also a good way of spending an idle afternoon.

We don't tend to sit around as a family and read, but we certainly swap books. All of my family are avid bookworms, but we've all got our place and times to do it. For example, I like to curl up in bed with a good book or read in the bath, where it's nice and quiet. My mother can only read if there's background noise, like the television on.
Often one of us will find a great book, then pass it on to someone else in the house. Once we've all read it, it will go to my brother's house, where it will pass through the whole family there too. I'm pleased to note that even the teenagers, who the media will have us believe never read, also end up lost in a story.
Phil Rickman and Terry Pratchett's books have been a favourite of all. My Mum, sister-in-law and I loved the Sophie Kinsella 'Shopaholic' series, though the men all turned their noses up at that. Tony Hawks's 'Round Ireland with a Fridge' got read by everyone. You could tell who had it, because there would be random giggling from a corner somewhere.

Yes, I certainly miss those years when brothers and sisters would sit a round in the family room and enjoy reading books, magazines, and newspapers. We had different favorites, but we share with one another when we find interesting things. My favorite were travel magazines, and I guess that's why I have been traveling a lot these years.
