There are so many things we do each day for others without even noticing. Others are doing things for you also without notice. I have found how much more fun it is to notice, respond, even if only with a smile. Hubby said to me, I really love the way you fold my underware, that got a big smile out of me and made that everyday chore so much more fun. So I decieded to pay attention and see how many of the chores others do for me I could compliment and how many smiles I could get. What a wonderful day I have had. Want to try this? Just take a short time to notice, thank or even just smile and watch the results. Blessings

For me, I don't think it will ever be the actual chores that will bring a smile to my face because that is simply not something that I enjoy doing. Instead, it is the end result that brings a smile to my face.
However, I'm also quite discouraged with the chores in the home right now as well because I can't convince the kids that they need to take some kind of pride in those things that belong to them. If I was able to do that, I would be a lot happier about the chores that I do.

i know it's not that easy to be left at home, alone and doing most of the house chores. i am not saying she does everything, we have kids who are suppose to give help and i also extend my working hours after office. extend my working hours, meaning, i still work in the house after office so i can help with the chores.
it's really fun to do the everyday chores but sometimes it is boring.
and i guess, the only way you can do that your spouse would appreciate is when you help him/her to make the task lighter and done faster.

I love this! I thought about complimenting others whenever I notice anything positive about the other person, whether it’s the hair style, clothing whatever...I once told my friend she had nice ears and that brought a smile! I like your idea of showing appreciation for all the little things that other people do for me, that will be my next project...Anything that creates a smile is good for me!

hello pat,
i find that a very wonderful idea. seeing little things and complimenting gives encouragement to the person doing it. it maybe a boring task but with compliments, they will surely love doing the job over and over.

Those kinds of things are fun. At our church we have "friendship folders" that we sign in and we can put messages, prayer requests, or say we are going to a special activity. I have started putting a positive comment in the comment column every time I sign. I think it is probably refreshing to the people who read those sheets.

Hi Savypat, Wow sounds like you have had a wonderful day, appreciation of others goes such a long way eh! Today I have made an effort to say please and thank you for every little thing my son has done because I expect him to have manners and yet sometimes forget to do that myself with him, amazingly he took he plate backout to the kitchen after dinner without me even asking so I said thank you again and what a good boy and guess what the sweet wrapper ended up in the bin rather than on the side for him to put in later, it is the little things in life. huggles. Ellie :D

I know the power of a smile and the way hard and boring chores get easier when in a nice company. When I had to make my first knitted cap for my hairless chemo, my mom lent me a cap and a friend took me to a store to buy wool. She also bought some and kneedles for herself and we came back home to knit, have tea and talk. She became an adict and even kitted another cap for me. WE ended the job in a day and had lots of fun.

Yes I think the little words "Thank you" makes a really big impact in one's life. Like mom cooks dinner for us everyday and when we thank her sometimes for all the hard work she does and all that she does taking care of us, she has the widest smile and I can see in her face that those simple words surely brightened up her day.

I did this a few days ago! In the end I discovered I am pretty much the laziest person in the household...and that is going to change of course. :D
However I agree that noticing the little things people do for us is a most excellent practice. Noticing the small, helpful little things not only makes the other person feel good, but it can also keep a relationship alive and strong. There is nothing to reinforce love quite like extra appreciation! The simple act itself can bring up a wellspring of good feelings. We just need to think and do it far more often then we do! It is far to easy to let those helpful little things slide past our attention. :)
