I have a diabetic relative and she does not have a pretty good meal every time she eats. Her foods does not have sugar, sometimes its lesser than we usually eat. She cant eat a lot of foods like I can, where I can eat everything I want to eat. Sometimes its a pity to see her having controlled meals. Have you gone seeing other people not happy about their meals because its controlled?

her situation's hard but that would be for her own good. i guess my sister in law is like that. my mother-in-law was the one who's always managing her food like what to eat and what's not to eat. she has an epilepsy and doctors told her to be careful in what to eat like not too oily, not too sweet, not too cold, etc.

hi cgracie, you also have to watch out on what you eat..you know that disease runs in the blood right?you should also control your diet while you're still young so you won't suffer when you're old.you're really high risk of contracting that disease.watch out for your health.

My partner is diabetic, so we've all got used to not having added sugar around the place because he just can't eat it anymore without his blood sugar levels going through the roof. We often use artificial sweeteners in our hot drinks though, because we think that they taste a lot better that way. We always find that the taste of these isn't all that different to regular sugar, but yet there is no actual sugar in it which means that it is alright for people with diabetes to consume as it won't aggravate their condition at all.

your right about that... My relative who is diabetic also have artificial sweetener. For me, its sweeter than the regular sugar I put in a cup of coffee. But for her, its just right.

Diabetic people is really eating well because they have the appetite and the problem is that they need to control what they eat. It is not bad to eat, but should be in moderation and with regards to eating properly, diabetic patients should know what are the foods to be avoided.
Obviously those with sweets are a no-no. They can eat sugarless foods but it still needs to be in moderate. Eating fruits and vegetable is the best particularly eating raw and organic veggies.

Sometimes, those people who have Diabetes chose to eat what they want to eat. Some have this mentality that, if a person diagnosed with Diabetes, he will live his life shortly... I do not know, its like its partly true. What do you think?

If your putting sugar in moderation, you will not acquire diabetes. But if its in your bloodline, there will always come a time that it will come out..

A lot of people have to have very strict diets, I think sugar is easier to give up then salt or flour though. I have friends who are diabetic, have extreme high blood pressure and are allergic to gluten and the diet that is easiest to cater for is the diabetic diet as there are a huge variety of diabetic products that cater for diabetics. That does not mean that there shouldn't be a lot of care in preparing their food though. A friends father lost a few toes due to his diabetes being difficult to control. High blood pressure, is also difficult, because most prepared foods take salt and low sodium diets make the possibility of eating out challenging the same applies to gluten sensitivity.
I once saw someone who suffered from gluten sensitivity being asked what is the one food she would most like to try. Her answer was bread, imagine never being able to eat bread it is one of those meals most people just don't think of as the best most delicious thing to eat.

Oh, it sounds really hard but we have no option but to keep our health good. We have to follow what the doctor says. My late aunt was a diabetic person but she never follow the doctors advice. She loves eating and sweets. She said she is not afraid to die so one day she was hospitalized. It was not just once but for a couple of times and finally she rested in peace. :( I hope she's resting in peace wherever she is now. Anyway, it all depends in our choice and in our beliefs. No one can stop you from having a good meal if you really want to.

Yes, its very hard just by seeing her every day. She does not follow what the doctors told her in some restrictions. She just wanted to enjoy even for sometimes.

Personally, I follow a special diabetic diet, as I'm guided by my dietition. I don't mind having to cut sugar out of my diet. Since I've done so, I've been able to drop 45 pounds in four and a half years time. I'm much healthier for doing so, and I'm very proud of myself.

I know some people who are diabetic and they have to make diet. Off course they avoid to eat meals with sugar or other ingredients they can't eat. They need to do it in order to keep healthy. But sometimes they left the diet beside and eat what they like. These exceptions don't hurt them and so they can enjoy food.

i feel for your relative. it must be hard for her to be not enjoying any of her food. but that controlling is the best for her health so why not. well, i had a friend too that she had this bland diet it was like no spices at all no spices, seasonings, salt and sugar none at all and it is more severe i think because my friend did not enjoy her food at all. she was like having that diet for a year i think because she was ill. i could always hear her complaining about the food. her food is plain. i can't even imagine myself maintaining that diet even for a week! i so much love eating food with lots of sugar and spices. but i am controlling these foods cause it might have bad effects on me. i am eating in moderation cause i want to enjoy it for the rest of my life.

To much of everything is bad, shanemae... Your right about eating in moderation. It will not bring us harm if we'll eat in moderation rather than eating in full percentage of calories, sugar, etc! well, thanks for your comment... Have a nice day! :)

As for me,I don't like eating foods with no sugar.Icecream, cake, chocolate and candy are all my favor.I am used to eat a specified volume of these,I find I can't live without sweet foods.
However,I still remember so clear there was a time when I am on a diet in order to lose my weight.During that time,I hardly keep away from foods with sugar ang high calorie.I draft a detailed list and keep to follow it.Every time I go to shopping in supermarket, what catch my eye firstly is the sugar-free foods. Most cases,I can't help to buy some and just one time I would spend a large sum of money, you know,sugar-free food is aways expensive. For a couple months I sticked to this until I found that it is an unscientific way to keep slim. From that time,I go to the normal diet again.
Frankly speaking, life could be more enjoyable with dessert in various forms.Mybe it depends on your attitude.

I totally agree with you, Zaq. I have read that those foods with sugar-free label are actually the foods that contain most of sugar than those without the label. So confusing, is it? Hence, were all concern about our health, we keep on looking for the good options on what to eat and what not to. I have also some experience in the grocery section wherein in im in a tight budget but when I get attracted to buy some sweets, I have not completely followed what I have listed in my grocery list! tsk
