My boss's room is getting repainted as of this moment and the smell of paint is giving me a headache! My table is just outside my boss's room so the smell of paint reaches me easily. I don't really feel faint but it's getting me a headache. I have already opened every window and door that I can open and thank God it lessened the smell. My boss is lucky he's not here to smell his room.

I do! I also feel the same whenever I smell gas. I simple hate it when we have to stop ever and have our gas refilled T_T But then, for some reason, I love the smell of freshly wet grass/ground (you know, the rustic smell) and Freon (that smell coming from air conditioners) Lol!

I don't like the smell of gasoline, too. It gives a queasy feeling to the stomach. I always feel like I want to vomit when I smell gasoline when the bus stops for refill. I like the smell of grass, too! But not the ground especially after a rain. You like the smell of freon?? That's weird kei.

I always carry scented oils with me. I used to hate white flower oil because it reminded me of my grandfather (not that I hate my grandpa but I just associate it the smell as smelling old). I started loving the smell when I had this clogged nose and I could not breath, the white flower is the only one who unclogged my nose and made me feel better. Maybe you can smell something similar. I love lavender too.

I associate white flower with smelling old, too! But it really does smell nice and it feels like it relaxes the nose.

I don't think having to sniff in the paint smell is good. That's probably why most painters have a mask when they paint. I don't have problems smelling paint. But then again I've never had to be close to a paint job. Maybe you can put an air freshener or something on the table? One of those which sprays every 5 minutes or so. Or switch on a fan and increase the speed? The increased air movement may somehow reduce the paint odour.

Oh! Well I do hope the paint job is well over already by now! I hope they didn't take too long to finish!

I sprayed an air freshener but the smell of the paint was just too strong. There was no electric fans which I could use but I did open all the windows and doors to let air come in.

I have not experience any fainting upon smelling a newly painted room or building. This is simply because I stay away from it. You should be careful since there are certain fumes in paint that may be deadly or harmful to health. That is why a newly painted room should not be occupied for at least 3-5 days and within that period, the windows shoukd be open for proper ventilation so that by the time it will be occupied, the fumes should have evaporated already.

I open all the windows and doors that I can open so that the smell will easily disperse in the air.

Yes, i do feel faint if the paint smell is too strong. Even i don't have appetite to eat, if i smell too much of the paint smell. Usually, if i want to paint my own room, i usually go for the odour-less paint. At least, i don't feel faint or loss of appetite although i am in the newly painted room. Hope you don't loss your appetite while smelling the paint, Secret...

Me too! I get a headache everytime I breathe in solvent-based smells like paint, gas, and rubber cement. I used to like the smell of those as a kid. I remember rolling down the car window whenever we are at the gas station. But nowadays, no-siree! I cannot tolerate them. And yes, the headaches are almost always automatic when I get even just a whiff of those. :(

I never liked the smell of gasoline when the vehicle pulls up to the gas station for a refill. I always want to smell the fresh air when I'm in a gas station.

But that's the thing...you can't possibly smell fresh air when your out and about on the streets of the metropolis, much less so when you're in a gas station. You're gonna have to get out to the rural areas that do not use cars and other transportation that uses gasoline or diesel, hehehe! :D Anyway, like I said, I used to enjoy the smell of gasoline...as a child. Not anymore. :)

I do not faint with paint's smell. I am not usually irritated by the smell of paint. Although I have heard a lot of people complaining when the smell paint. I am lucky that I am not sensitive to such smell. I can go on with my work even if I am near someone who paints,.

There are paints that smells so good I can get addicted to it fast but there are some that smell like medicine that I'd rather stop breathing than to smell it. I've gone dizzy before smelling paint most specifically during the construction of our house.

I love the smell of paint, varnish and even petrol and I know a few of my friends get affected which is a deterrent specially when a house needs painting or furniture requires polishing. Petrol is something that one has to tolerate but I know there are many who cannot bear its smell.

Thanks. The workers have finished repainting my boss's room. The smell of paint is getting fainter as the days passed so things are getting better.

For me it depends upon the kind of paint it is. The oil-based paints are the worst. Not only do they smell terrible, but the smell also nauseates me. What's even worse though is a hair studio where I used to get my hair cut. The chair where I had to sit was right across from the table where they gave manicures, and I'm sure the fumes from the chemicals they used there must have been unhealthy. I was very glad when my hairdresser moved her office.

What I don't like in beauty parlors are the smell of chemicals they use in hair rebonding and strengthening.

I have been cursed or blessed with no sense of smell. I can not smell anything. So paint never actually affects me. For that matter neither do the perfumes or flowers. I would definitely take the headache smelling paint for just smelling something though.

I don't like the smell of paint. Yes, it will surely give us headache and made me dizzy and even wants me to throw up. Besides, it is not good for our health to better not use the room till the smells subsides. have a good day

Most fresh paints give allergy to people.I also have this problem with the pungent smell of paint.I take an allergy tablet to lessen the effects.Other wise i end up with a cold.Your boss is a very lucky guy as he has managed to avoid the fresh paint and will be back when the effects of smell are over.
