Ive been suffering from bad pain in my chest with palpitations, breathlessness etc for a while now. I also have pains in my legs which make it hard to walk. Im at my wits end and nothing shows up in tests. Anyway I went to my doc to see what she could offer me. She perscribed a pain killer for me. Looking up the side effects it causes I found that it causes pain in the chest with palpitations, breathlessness and muscle cramps in the legs. Also puts you at risk of bladder cnacer and stomach bleeding, blurred vision and long term heart problems. What do I do now.?

I would get a second opinion. Even a pulmonary specialist if possible. I wonder if you have fybromyalgia. A friend also had these palpitations you describe. Circulation problems could be causing the leg pain. Is your cholesterol high? I hope you have found other methods for pain relief.

I would call the doctor and ask if you are also at risk. Sometimes although there are side effects that are similar to what you are having, it could be that a certain type of person is at risk and not specifically everyone.
I definitely would voice my concerns and ask the doctor prior to taking it, although he may know that already but it is better to be satisfied with the decision of taking it then perhaps not doing anything at all and putting yourself at some type of risk. I would hope the doctor recalled your history at the time of prescribing, but they are human also and subject to making errors at times.
If you can't speak to the doctor directly, voice your questions to the nurse and have her bring this up to the doctor with the request that you get called back. I won't suggest a pharmacist to translate this for you because a pharmacist has not examined you and does not know you full history.

I think what she need is to find another doctor. Because the way her doctor handle her situation. The doctor don't even explain the cause of the pain. In short her doctor don't even know how to diagnose her. But her doctor give her a pain killer. As we all know that pain killer is a big no no. Theirs so many disease and organ problems that if you take pain killer it will make your condition works.

Hi teenal
Bad pain in the chest with palpitations, breathlessness, these are not simple things....how can your doctor just give you pain killers and how come your tests don't show anything. This is very strange.
Are you by nature timid kind of person and get very touchy about your health, because such people exaggerate little thing, but if not then......I think you should go for Homeopathy or Ayurvedic treatment. They may take some time, but will definitely find solutions to your problems Also these medicines don't have any side effects. May God bless you with all good health.

First ask the doctor what is your diagnosis. Second ask what cause that. And third ask your doctor why he is giving you pain killer. Because its only commonsense that your doctor is not treating you at all. He only gives you pain killer for your symptoms (for the pain) but not for what its causes that pain. And what most important is try to check if you visited the right doctor.

Hi sorry to hear of your anguish and although by no means an expert I would agree with celticeagle #4. You need to know what your diagnosis is. Ask for referral to a consultant, purely just giving you a pain killer is not acceptable. Please let us know how you go on.

so... your doctor gave you a med that has exactly the same side effects and even more as the problems you already have? No test to see what causes that pain?
The meds she gave you I would only take if the side effects are less worser as what you are already suffering from, which doesn't seem the case.
Go back to the doctor (or ask for a 2nd opinion elsewhere) describe exactly what you feel (write it down at home so you won't forget or the doctor won't start talking about something else). Make sure she will take you seriously.
The pain you describe in your chest sounds like a nerve pain to me, there must be a reason for that. Even if the painkiller would help the reason will stay so sooner or later they have to find out what to do about that.

Perhaps you should ask for a second opinion then you might have a better idea of what is causing that chest pain. You cannot take medications that can cause symptoms similar to what you are having now as this can cause you to be blindsided as to whether the medication you are taking is causing all these or perhaps your symptoms are already getting more serious. I think that by seeking a second opinion, you might have a better chance of understanding why you are having chest pain as further workup can also help unravel certain etiologies that did not show in the usual laboratory tests already requested.
