Now for starters let me say that my Xbox360 is not modded and I cant play copied games. My main thing is much like with my music and movies I like to make back ups and keep the originals in top notch condition. I would really love to be able to do this for my games as well but Microsoft has ensured current blocks and failsafes to all of that supposedly. What that means is that I can't play backed up copies of the games I own on the system I own.
A lot of people say well that would be illegal anyway and you couldn't do it, however I disagree with that thought process because I already paid for the game and already paid for the system and I pay for any downloads that I would want, So the companies already make all of the money off of me that they would anyway. Me making backups of my games so I can ensure that my purchase is not destroyed by little kids and other things is my decision. It is not copyright infringement because I am not selling theses things, I simply am protecting my purchases and giving them longevity.
As I said initially I am just curious as to how all of you feel on this. Please respond and let me know.

I don't see where this is a problem. They must not be able to show that it is bought and payed for for some reason. Not too swift since it is Microsoft and all. I do wonder if there is some way you could get around this. These things are very aggravating. Hope you figure some way around it.

Well there is a work around and you can mod your system to be able to use them but then you have a very likely risk of being banned from getting online which would prevent me from being able to buy the download content that I would want.

Doesn't sound right to me. I think I would just rent them and buy the limited editions or whatever maybe. I wouldn't let the company get the better of me.

I agree. I don't see anything wrong with making personel backups for yourself. In case the original gets lost or destroyed. It is very hard to copy games. Plus copied games won't play on a system, unless it is modified. I do agree if you're not giving away copies or trying to sell copies, then it isn't really copy right infringement. Making personel backups for yourself is legal.

I completely agree. I would love to make a back up copy so the children don't ruin them. They cost much more for the game than a music CD, and we are able to copy those to our PC.
I would imagine its to prevent the abuse of copying the game, and giving it to your relatives, or your neighbors and friends. Maybe the gaming industry watched the abuse with the music and decided to take extra precautions to prevent this from happening.
I harp about my games, DVD's and CD's and my family knows now that when something is done being used it goes back in its case, it DOESN'T get left lying on the table, or the TV stand or the floor. I have zero tolerance for it, as the cost adds up on all of them. My husband is the worst of the bunch, not with putting it away but taking the original in his truck, and by truck I mean a transport truck for work. I tell him all the time take the ripped CD not the original. They come back scratched from bouncing around in the CD player in the truck. He's great about putting them in the case just not great at leaving the original at home.

Don't quote me on this exactly but I am sure you can make backups for personal use other than that you can't. It has been a while since I read up on software licences and such but personal use should be ok. It is the same as ripping your CDs for personal use on your i pod.
