Why the people don't continue a discussion?

I started some topics a little time ago and I received some comments on them. I like to respond to all comments to start a discussion and try to make friends and learn some things, but I realize that most people comment a post, but don't continue a discussion when I answer it.
Why did they do that? Do you continues to discuss a post when the owner answers your comment? Why or why not? Happy mylotting.

Welcome aboard lctravenisk,
Before it gets further confusing, what I am doing is responding to your discussion. Then when you come back then you are commenting and or anyone who comments under the response in the same box are comments.
Yes I am one of the many on myLot who does further discussions a great deal. I can say that at times when the discussion starter takes too long to comment the members are probably no longer logged in and or have lost interest in the discussion.
Other times can be that when the discussion starter says thank you for the response that kind of closes the discussion. Best advice would be as the discussion starter is to place a question at the end of the comment and most likely you will get a repeated comment there after.
Sometimes there really is nothing more to add, but it depends on the topic being discussed. If there is noting more they can add then for the sake of posting some will not.

Ok. Thanks for the explantion. Actually, I am not just new at mylot, I am a newbie in all of this kind of sites, so I still have some difficulties with some terms.
For me, as I understand it, the discussion is the reason of the existence of mylot, that is why I became so sad when I saw some people who don't continue to change idea in a topic. Don't you think it?
I am sorry, wiht you and all others, for the delay to answer this discussion. As you said in your response, it is something that can make a topic to die, but I have just a little time at night to enter in mylot and it is the reason that I am responding it only now.
I try to put a question in the end of my comments with the same idea that you explain, but I don't get a lot of answer even when I do it. I hope we can meet each other in other post, because I like a lot of your answer. Happy mylotting.

Yes offline life and or other responsibilities at times do come first. What would be recommended is that you try and start discussions when you know you will be here an X amount of time. However, there is no rule as to when you have to comment back, although I can tell you that if you did you would get the discussion moving more.
Also probably not start another discussion until you see that the first one is sort of ran it's course. Yes there are some members who do not come back and some actually think that if they do they do not earn. Which I have explained to some here that it is wrong, as we only earn here for what we type. So the more you type/place quality content the more you will earn.
With time the more you myLot, you will recognize who is active and who is casually active.
Nice to meet you and hope you do enjoy your stay.

Probably this is a good idea, as I saw on other comments, people are normally more encouraged to continue a discussion when they have a quick answer, but it is very difficult, as you said, because all of our others responsabilities.
Start a discussion only when the other ones have nothing more to do is a thing that I always try to do, because if I don't do it, I won't have time to answer all the comments. And I try to have quality posts all the time, because lot of people told me that mylot prefer the quality than quantity, what makes sense.
Probably I will need a little more time to start recognize it. Can you recognize it easily? DO you have any tips for me on how to recognize the more actives users? Thanks you for your comment.

I usually don't. I don't get some sort of notification when people respond to what I write. It would be cool if that was a feature. It kind of makes me think that I wish mylot was more like a forum than the format it's in.

I mean like something in my account and not in my email. Usually when I use a site, I disable email notifications, but when I log in to the site the first place I go is the section of my account that shows what's been going on since I last visited the site. Mylot doesn't appear to have a feature like that. It's a shame, because I would participate more, but eek, I get enough email as it is without getting constant notifications from mylot, facebook, twitter, etc.

Oh my tipsy it appears that you have not been informed. Yes we do get notifications but you have to set which ones you want to receive. I get notifications after all my participation. I hope you are able to see this one so that you can set it and get your notifications too:

Yes it certainly is what is most comfortable for you. I do get all my notifications and as binggaling says I created a filtered folder in my email account. Where all my notifications from myLot go directly to that folder. None of it mixes in with my other important emails.
I will assume that myLot does not have this type of feature as it is not a social networking site, and or maybe because it will then take up server space. Reason I prefer to get mine in email is that and although what binggling above says is also helpful, for me it would be way too time consuming to go through what I responded to and then have to search each and every page at times.

Most of the time, I don't like to continue a discussion for long. Sometimes I just post my own opinion for the owner, and when getting feedback, I really seldom continue. Maybe it's a habit.
But I do wish to get some discussions discussed a lot, just like a forum. In that way, in such discussions, when we express our own opinions one by one, we may get to know more people and make friends.
However, different people have different habits.

At least you come back to see the owner's opinion about your response. It is important, because some day you can write a wrong thing and the owner can correct you, but you would never know that.
I like this idea, of discussion like a forum, because we can learn a lot of things in sites like this. As the people have different ideas and habits, you can know a lot of different viewpoints for the same situation.
When you come back to a discussion, do you answer the question that the owner let for you? Happy mylotting.

Yeah, that feature which send you an e-mail is a good way to know when the owner answer you. I use it too, but sometimes it floods my e-mail and that is a problem.
I think it is important to check the answer, but don't you agree that looks like a lot of people just answer your post, but never see what is your opinion about it? Happy mylotting.

It's because after responding the discussion, the following response can not bring money anymore. It means that those responses is useless to your account. I think not all mylotters are just here for money. the case you encounter is unique. have fun in mylot.

I came back to the discussion and noticed your response. I see you are fairily new and if you are not continuing to participate, you are loosing out. Every and all participation here on myLot earns for us. The idea in myLot is that I type I earn, you type you earn.
Saying that continual participation does not earn us is incorrect friend, and those who come here via articles from the internet stating is, is completely wrong.
We must remember that no one earns for the responses they get, unless they are commenting/typing as well they will not earn here. Oh my I am one of the many here who furthers and furthers discussions daily.
I do hope this helps.

hardworkinggurl said everything. I saw it on the FAQ's too and also have a experience with it. I don't have too much time to enter on mylot, so somedays, I just can comment my responses (somedays even that) and I thought I wouldn't receive my money, but on the other day, I saw that I earned it normally. Thanks for your answer, szz1990602 and thanks for your help, hardworkinggurl.

Hello Ktra,
Thats good habit to continue the discussion as this is what a discussion means. But it may also happen that there may not be anything left for the responder to dicuss. The best way is to keep your discussion open by commenting/responding some open questions/comments so that the responder may easily come back in to the discussion with some points.

I don't fell sad like in a real bad situation, but sad because I enjoy to discuss and make friends and this kind of people don't let you to do it, because they stop to talk with you.
And for sure I am always looking for a new post where I can add some useful information and learn something too. Thanks for your comment.

Yeah, this is what I think too. And I try to help the maintenance of the discussion, wiht the same ideas that you said, but a lot of time the people just don't answer more than the first response, and that is frustrating, because I really try my best to keep a good discussion with everybody.
Don't you become sad when the people don't answer you? Do you think your opinion was not important for that person? Happy mylotting.

Hi.. sometimes i belong to the people you are referring too.
I love to make new discussions and love to respond on it. The answer to your question is so simple.. Some did not continue the discussion for many reasons, maybe they are logged-out already, they are not interested to comment or no more things to say.

I do not see the need to continue the discussion if there is nothing to discuss anymore. i notice that in mylot too that most topics are answered in one go. and people go search mylot again for other discussions to discuss. it is very rare that they would open your disccusion again to see if they have to answer back your post. most of the time its going to be thanks, and confirmation of their response in a particular discussion.

I understand your opinion, but I think mylot is a place where we can share ideas, and when the people don't come back to see my answer about what they wrote, it lost its reason to be.
Don't you think we could make more progress using mylot if we see the answer from the topic owner and make a complete discussion about a theme? Thank for your comment.

I think its because they are busy doing other things that they forget to check when they log in again. Or maybe it could be because the discussion already head into an end where there's no point of going on. The only thing that would keep the conversation going is if someone replies with a "thanks" then someone "you're welcome, no problem, etc." Then the reply would be what? Like tell that person "yup, so?" Its like chances are that other person wouldn't even reply back.

Yeah, sometimes the discussion just get to an end, but I try to use some techniques to continue a discussion with a person all the time that I comment a response. The most simple is to comment a response with a question, but even when I do that, a lot of people don't come back.
Do you come back to old posts to see the owners answer? I came to see if my answer as good or nothing for the person. Happy mylotting.

Sadly there are many MyLot members who think that they will earn their money by writing their initial comment or question and then they don't bother responding to other member's responses. However it is by responding and joining in the discussion that they earn their money. Without them adding responses they do not actually have a discussion but just a list of comments!
It makes MyLot a lot more interesting as well as financially rewarding when people do respond to each other.

That is true. I opened a post some time ago and all the people who answered it, told me that is the quality, not the quantity of posts, what mylot is interested. Because of this, I always try to do good discussions with the people and didn't understand why people don't try to do it.
Moreover, the reason of mylot exist is to encourage the share of ideas, so when they don't continue a discussion, they are killing the own purpose of the site. What kind of techniques do you try to use to make people continue a discussion with you? Happy mylotting.

Perhaps some don't see a need to continue the discussion? Still I have not seen this true for evey discussion but I have noticed that the most active mylotters tend to comment more than those who are still pretty green. Also the quality of your discussion can be a factor or maybe there was not enough material to make the discussion stronger. Occasionally some are forgotten. Either way do not fret. You will have discussions that will go on and on. Most of the mylotters here enjoy a good discussion :) Happy Mylotting.

For sure, sometimes I don't know how to answer some comment too, because it is an end by itself. As you can see, I am new here in mylot too, but I think I need to do good discussions with the people to become known by others and to make good friends.
One thing that I try to do in all my posts is to put at least one question about the comment, because I think it can motivate the others to continue the discussion. Do you think it help? Is it a good idea? Do you do something similar? Thanks for comment.

Well, for me if someone replies to my post or discussion, I would comment them back and I know that will be the last comment because people don't tend to reply back. I guess you kinda get over it after a while, once you share your opinion, that's all you wanted to get out and you have nothing more to say. If someone replies to me then I reply to them until someone chooses to stop the further comments. It's fun to keep talking about a topic and make friends but like in real conversation, it has to end sooner or later. Then you move to another topic!

I understand what you said, but I think the people should try to continue more in a discussion than just answer and don't see an old topic again. Sometimes the owner can give you a good new information about your response. Sometimes you can see a new viewpoint form another user. And as I see, almost all people answer it and don't come back anymore.
I know sometime the discussion will end, but dont you think that one point pulls other and then you can keep a discussion like you do in a conversation? Happy mylotting.

I think everyone who really read the responses to their posts and answer it have this kind of problem. Because probably there are some people here who start a topic just for the money and then forget it, what is a shame!
In my case, I always try to comment every answer, except the ones who don't add nothing to my question (like just "I don't know. happy mylotting"), because if the person didn't bother to help me, do not deserve a response too. Thanks for your comment.
