Amazon kindle - the future of books, or just a cool gadget?

A friend of mine got a Kindle 3G last Christmas and she's been totally addicted to it :)) It's very small and easy to read on, especially since you can zoom in and out, reads a lot of files of different extensions (jpg, doc, pdf, rtf, etc)and it's screen is like paper, emits 0.01 light. Really a remarking little toy, especially since it has both wi-fi and 3G. For me, though, ever since I started studying drawing to get admitted into the architecture college my eyes started getting tired when working on normal paper, much more than on a computer so I'm really unsure about buying a Kindle, even though I really like it! Does any of you posses a Kindle? Was it worth the money for you? Do you think this is the future of reading, or will people still prefer normal books?

I personally don't own one but, my niece has one and it's cool and all but, I think we are going into a new era where everything will be functioned by machines and little gadgets. Papers will be of less importance..

Hello, Zamara! Your view upon things reminds me of sci-fi books and movies...And we all know how those end :P I think we shouldn't depend that much on machines. Making useful and helpful gadgets and software (for example CAD and design software) is a good thing , but taking it to the extreme and putting everything on machines , in my opinion, is the wrong approach. What if, God forbid, a cataclism occurs and we loose the "data base"? Do we lose all the information we spent so many millenia gathering? It's really a scary thought, isn't it? Thanks for joining in on the discussion! Happy posting!

I hope it's not the future of books. I think it's too expensive (like $100-$200 plus you have to buy every book?) and personally when I go to read, I like to take a BREAK from technology for a while, you know? I don't have a Kindle, and I think it's a cool idea but not necessarily for me..I like book books!
